Former Georgia Bulldogs and Miami Hurricanes head coach Mark Richt came to the defense of one of his former assistants in Mike Bobo. Mike Bobo and Mark Richt coached together for quite sometime in Athens, Georgia.
Richt and Bobo have extensive experience together, so Richt knows a lot about Bobo and his character. In fact, Bobo coached at UGA from 2001-2014 and Richt coached for the Dawgs from 2001-2015. Mike Bobo coached quarterbacks and was offensive coordinator at Georgia.
Bobo has been accused of being racially insensitive during his time with Colorado State and of having a toxic culture there.
In his defense, Mark Richt said in a Tweet: “Mike Bobo was on my UGA staff for the first 14 years that I was there. During those years I cannot remember receiving one complaint from a parent, high school coach or more importantly a student athlete about how he was treated by Mike. The same goes for any staff member. Mike blessed UGA!”
Mike Bobo is currently the offensive coordinator at the University of South Carolina. Before joining the Gamecocks, Bobo was the head coach at Colorado State University. Bobo helped the Rams go 28-35 during five seasons in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Rams never finished better than 7-6 during Bobo’s tenure. Bobo and Colorado State agreed to part ways following a disappointing 4-8 campaign in 2019.
