Three-star East Lansing receiver Andrel Anthony commits to Michigan over Michigan State

Anthony Jr. had long been considered a strong Michigan State lean, but flipped his pick to UofM this week.

Jim Harbaugh scored his first win over new Michigan State coach Mel Tucker on Friday.

Three-star wide receiver Andrel Anthony Jr., an East Lansing native long considered to be heading to MSU, committed to Harbaughs’ Wolverines over Tuckers’ Spartans on Friday evening.

Anthony, the top wide receiver in the State of Michigan, chose from a final four consisting of MSU, Michigan, Penn State, and Notre Dame. Anthony is ranked as the No. 529 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 12 player overall in Michigan.

On recruiting websites 247Sports.com and Rivals.com Anthony had long been considered a heavy Michigan State lean. As recently as Wednesday this week 22 of 22 predictions between the two sites had Anthony heading to MSU. Then word got out that Michigan was going to be the move and slowly but surely the predictions began to flip to the Wolverines.

It’s another tough recruiting loss for Tucker and the Spartans as the COVID-19 pandemic limiting visits has helped stall out MSU’s recruitment of the class of 2021. Currently the Spartans have 12 players committed in a class that ranks 63rd in the country and 12th in the Big Ten.

WATCH: Training session for Michigan State quarterback commit Hampton Fay

Fay shows off his impressive and healthy arm in a video from his quarterback coach.

Michigan State football feels like they got a plan “A” recruit in 2021 quarterback Hampton Fay.

Fay, a three-star prospect, has been considered underrated at his position since he was offered by the Spartans. (For more on Fay’s recruitment and why he is underrated, read this.)

Fay’s quarterback coach Foster Sawyer released a quick training video on Twitter and in it Fay’s talents are obvious.

Fay quickly goes through three progressions throws, displaying impressive arm strength and down field accuracy.

Now, this is of course throwing against air and in gym shorts, but Fay’s 2019 season was cut short after three games due to a shoulder injury that required surgery to fix. There have been some videos of Fay throwing out there since his procedure, but this is the first I’ve seen of him really opening it up and throwing deep. By the looks of it, Fay’s shoulder has recovered and is up to full strength.

East Lansing wide receiver Andrel Anthony has Michigan State in his top four

Anthony will be choosing between the Spartans and three other midwest powers in his recruitment.

The recruitment for the number one receiving prospect in Michigan is starting to wind down.

East Lansing wide receiver Andrel Anthony Jr. announced his top four schools on Saturday, of which Michigan State made the cut. The other three schools are Michigan, Notre Dame, and Penn State.

Anthony is a three-star prospect and the No. 12 player in the state of Michigan for the class of 2021 per the 247Sports composite rankings. He is ranked No. 531 in the entire class of 2021 and would be MSU’s highest-rated recruit in the class of 2021 should he end up committing to the Spartans. Anthony is also the teammate of current MSU commit Ethan Boyd. Right now MSU is considered a slight favorite to land the talented pass catcher, but as we all know, a lot can change in the recruiting game.

Rivals recruiting write Corey Robinson reported earlier in the week that a late summer commitment is a possibility for Anthony.

Michigan State football commit Ethan Boyd rises in latest 247Sports rankings

Boyd jumps to the top of MSU’s class in 247’s latest re-rank.

The latest re-rank done by recruiting website 247Sports was quite kind to at least one Michigan State football commit.

East Lansing’s Ethan Boyd, a 6-foot-7 offensive tackle, jumped to an 88 rating, which puts him at the top of MSU’s 2021 class. Boyd is now ranked by 247 as the No. 12 prospect in Michigan, up nine spots from his previous ranking of 21. The jump was enough to put Boyd atop MSU’s class in the 247Sports composite rankings as well, which factor in scores from other recruiting services.

Elsewhere in the class there wasn’t much movement up or down for MSU commits. Oak Park running back Davion Primm rose one spot in the state of Michigan, as did Warren Mott defensive end Tyson Watson. Defensive back Atontion Boothe, out of DeMatha Catholic in Maryland, fell ten spots in his state rankings after dropping from an 84 rating to an 83 on 247.

MSU’s 2021 class is currently ranked No. 51 in the country and No. 11 in the Big Ten.
