Sherrone Moore shares what makes Bryce Underwood a special pickup for Michigan football

This is such a game changer. #GoBlue

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — It was a Monday in November, and head coach Sherrone Moore was asked about who will be the quarterback in 2024, and a sly grin overtook his face. There as a complete lack of concern and that made people wonder if Moore knew something they didn’t.

Fast forward to Nov. 21, and Moore managed to flip No. 1 player in the country, Bryce Underwood, from LSU. The quarterback of the future had been obtained for the Wolverines.

Moore says that he eventually learned that Underwood would flip when he got a phone call, but as he noted, he had a pretty good feeling that it would eventually happen.

“Phone call — kind of got the gist,” Moore said. “And been around him, and kind of felt like it would happen. But a phone call. So, just extremely excited for that to happen, and all the hard work that we’ve done in the communication and relationship built, felt like it was coming to that, but was really happy that it came to play.”

This wasn’t an overnight ordeal, though it may seem to be to the outside world. Many in the national college football recruiting landscape were taken by surprise because they didn’t realize what the Wolverines were working on behind the scenes.

Now, Underwood is official, as he signed with Michigan football on Wednesday evening. And Moore is thrilled for what his signing does for the program.

“Oh, it’s huge. He’s an excellent player. Obviously, he has a great skill set, elite skill set,” Moore said. “From the pocket, out of the pocket, deep ball, touch, intermediate, short.

“He’s talked to me about different things we want to do with him to expand his game and we’ll do that. But, (an) exceptional leader and he loves the game. He loves to grind. He loves to get better.

“First question he asked me, he’s like, ‘Coach, how late is the door open? How late can I be in the building?’ ‘As late as you want, buddy.’ So excited, very excited to get him here and get to work.”

Underwood shared on Wednesday that he is looking forward to the competition, especially if Michigan brings in a veteran quarterback via transfer. That’s one of the things that Moore loves about his incoming signal caller — he craves competition, and even though he’s rated as the top recruit in the country by all but one of the recruiting services, he has a humility that drives him to work and be the best.

“Yeah, I think for him, it’s about the work and continuing to start over,” Moore said. “The process of how you got to where you got to, you worked to get there. It didn’t just happen. So, for him, he’s going to have to work. He’s going to have to put the work in, day in, day out. And I think his mentality, I think his family, how he’s been brought up, I think that’s going to play a huge role into it. And who he is.

“And there’s not going to be a humbling session. Because the kid is very humble. Like, the kid wants to be good. And the kid knows it takes work to be good. It’s not just going to happen. So, he wants to be pushed, and he will be.”

Underwood is expected to join the team as an early enrollee and will have the opportunity to partake in most all of the Wolverines’ bowl practices.

What does “ATH” mean: Breaking down three Michigan commits

More clarity on some top prospects! #GoBlue

Michigan has a history of recruiting versatile players. Whether it be Jabrill Peppers playing essentially every spot on defense (and offense), or Mike Sainristil making the switch from WR to CB without a hitch, Harbaugh loves football guys.

Michigans 2024 class is no different. Jadyn Davis and Jordan Marshall may take the cake as the top names, but Harbaugh and his staff made sure to load up on prospects who can do it all.

As background knowledge, it is important to know what the ‘ATH’ tag means. Essentially, this is a position assigned to athletes who have the ability to play multiple spots at the next level. Sometimes players have it temporarily, other times they carry it throughout the entire cycle.

Players like Trevon Diggs, Jabrill Peppers, and Jordan Addison all finished their respective cycles at athletes, and would go on to have great college careers.

This year, Michigan has three players ready to contribute at different spots: Jacob Oden, Mason Curtis, and Jaden Smith. Each has a different role at their respective high schools, but can be game changers in the winged helmet.

Michigan makes final three for 4-star prospect; announces decision timeframe

His size would be so dynamic in the Michigan secondary!

Tampa (Florida) Tampa Catholic athlete Jameer Grimsley is coming off of an official visit to Michigan this past weekend. Just days ago he was on Twitter and put up a video showing love to Wolverine nation.

The 6-foot-3 dynamic four-star recruit has announced Michigan has officially made his final three. Alabama and Florida round out the three schools he will consider. Grimsley also announced he would be committing to one of the schools on Saturday, July 1.

According to the Composite, Grimsley is the 233rd-ranked prospect in the 2024 class and the No. 36 prospect in the state of Florida.

Grimsley has the capabilities of playing both sides of the ball, either at wide receiver or cornerback. But it’s widely expected Grimsley will play corner in college.

There’s not much of a pulse on where Grimsley may go. There are no expert predictions in on 247Sports. And if you look at On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Florida State has the best chance to land him with an 18.6% chance — FSU isn’t in the running any longer.

Michigan currently doesn’t have a cornerback in the 2024 class. However, it appears the Wolverines have a puncher’s chance to land Grimsley, Aaron Scott, and Terhyon Nichols.

Tides are turning against Michigan ahead of 2024 4-star OT announcement

Big bummer.

Four-star Michael Uini has had a quiet recruitment in terms of not many people had an idea of what he was going to do.

Uini is about as big as they come. He stands at 6-foot-7, 290-pounds, and has a ton of big offers. The Copperas Cove (Texas) product has had offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and plenty of others. But he ultimately made a final three of Michigan, Alabama, and Georgia.

Uini took an official visit to Ann Arbor back on June 16 and following the visit recruiting analysts were predicting Uini to head to Michigan — even with five offensive linemen committed to the Wolverines for 2024.

Uini is set to make his announcement on Friday and things are starting to not trend Michigan’s way. There are now two Cyrstal Ball predictions in for Georgia to land Uini — not the Wolverines.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, UGA now leads for Uini with a 55.1% chance — Michigan fell to second. EJ Holland and Zach Libby with The Wolverines both put in a prediction for UGA to land the big tackle.

We will know for sure Friday what Uini decides, but things are starting to flip away from Michigan in this recruitment.

Michigan 2024 4-star CB target sets commitment date, time

Let’s hope #Michigan can land him!

Michigan is sitting at 24 commitments in the 2024 class, and the Wolverines are filling the class out nicely. One big thing missing in the class is cornerbacks. It’s not without trying though. The Wolverines were right in it for Glenville (Ohio) corner Bryce West, but he ultimately decided to stay home and commit to Ohio State. The maize and blue are also trying to sway Springfield (Ohio) corner Aaron Scott to commit to the Wolverines over OSU.

Another corner Michigan is trying to get in the 2024 class is Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow four-star cornerback, Terhyon Nichols.

Nichols announced on Twitter he will be announcing his commitment on Sunday, July 2. He will pick between Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Kentucky.

The 6-foot corner is ranked as a four-star recruit according to the Composite. He is the 284th-ranked recruit in the class, the No. 23 corner, and the ninth-best recruit in Ohio in the 2024 cycle.

Nichols is coming off of an official visit to Ann Arbor last weekend, and things went great by all accounts. However, there are no Crystal Ball predictions in from 247Sports on where Nichols may go.

Looking at On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Kentucky has a slight lead to get Nichols. The Wildcats have a 27.6% to land the coveted four-star. The Wolverines are second with a 19.4% chance.

Twitter reactions: Michigan football gets commitment from 4-star LB Jeremiah Beasley

Such a sweet, sweet win over rival MSU. #GoBlue!

Heading into a dead period for recruiting, Michigan landed its 24th commitment for the 2024 class on Wednesday evening.

Belleville (Michigan) linebacker, Jeremiah Beasley, announced he was committing to the Wolverines over Michigan State and Missouri.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound, linebacker is a four-star recruit. According to the 247Sports composite, Beasley is the No. 319 recruit in the country, the No. 28 linebacker, and the No. 6 recruit in Michigan in the 2024 cycle.

The Wolverines have four linebackers committed in the cycle. Beasley and Mason Curtis are both four-star commits to the maize and blue. Michigan also has three-star Cole Sullivan and Zach Ludwig in the fold as well.

After Beasley made his announcement, Twitter took notice. We are going to show you the best Twitter reactions after Beasley pledged to Michigan.

Michigan football gets a commitment from prized 2024 in-state recruit

Great get for #Michigan! #GoBlue

Michigan football has had a solid 2024 recruiting cycle, but the past few weeks have seen the Wolverines miss more than hit.

While the maize and blue have gotten in running back Micah Kaapana, edge rushers Devon Baxter and Dominic Nichols, and wide receiver I’Marion Stewart. But, they’ve lost out on linebacker Aaron Chiles, edge rusher Darien Mayo, and cornerback Bryce West, two of three which had appeared to be, at the very least, Michigan leans.

So, the Wolverines needed a win. And on Wednesday, they got one.

Hailing from Belleville (Mich.), linebacker Jeremiah Beasley is rated as a four-star recruit, and is listed as the No. 237 player in the country via the 247Sports proprietary rankings. He’s the 25th-ranked linebacker and fifth-best player in the state of Michigan. And after appearing to be a Michigan State lean for some time, Beasley ultimately opted to commit to Michigan.

Missouri was the other school under strong consideration but also had offers from Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and many others.

The scouting report from 247Sports’ Allen Trieu:

Powerful linebacker with short-area explosion. Adequate size, but hits beyond his listed measureables. Was injured as a freshman and had a good sophomore year, but made big strides as a junior and seemed to have his explosiveness all the way back following his recovery. Has a track background and runs and moves around easily in space. Times his blitzes and shoots gaps with good acceleration. Also is a standout at running back and could fit the bill as a bigger back if a school wants to play him there. Three-down linebacker who can fit in a variety of systems.

Beasley is Michigan’s 24th commitment in the 2024 cycle. The Wolverines are currently ranked third in the 247Sports team rankings behind Georgia and Ohio State.

LOOK: 2024 4-star CB shows Michigan love on Twitter with video

Cool to see this. Let’s hope #Michigan can get him back on campus and bring him into the fold!

Tampa (Florida) Catholic’s Jameer Grimsley has had a relatively quiet recruitment so far. The 2024 athlete has had big offers come his way from Michigan, Alabama, Florida, State, Penn State, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee among others.

Grimsley is coming off an official visit to Ann Arbor this past weekend. From all accounts, the visit was a success, and Grimsley is starting to consider Michigan more and more. Grimsley told Brice Marich with The Michigan Insider: “It made my decision a lot harder. It’s a good thing, though. They have a lot to offer, and I think I would be a good fit there.”

The four-star athlete took to Twitter on Monday and posted a video showing the Wolverines some big-time love.

He captioned it by saying “This might be it right here!!! Is this home?”

Grimsley is listed as an athlete on a few scouting sites. He played wide receiver and cornerback during his junior year in high school, but Grimsley is predicted to play corner in college.

He stands 6 feet, 3 inches and 185 pounds. According to the 247Sports composite, he is the 231st-ranked recruit in the country.

There are no predictions on 247Sports, On3 or Rivals for Grimsley’s destination. According to On3’s recruiting prediction machine, Florida State leads marginally with an 18.3% chance to land him.

Michigan has zero cornerbacks committed in the 2024 class.

Top Michigan football 2024 OT target sets announcement date; final three schools

This would be a HUGE get! #GoBlue

There was a little quiet spell in Michigan football’s recruiting when the Wolverines didn’t receive a commitment in a week’s time, but the maize and blue landed four-star edge Dominic Nichols on Sunday.

It appears the third-ranked recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite, may gain another commitment on Friday.

Four-star offensive tackle Michael Uini announced on Twitter he planned to announce his commitment on Friday, June 30. Uini also announced the final three teams he is considering: Michigan, Alabama and Georgia.

The Copperas Cove (Texas) prospect is a 6-foot-7, 325-pound offensive tackle. He is the No. 127 recruit in the country and the No. 8 offensive tackle in the 2024 class on the composite.

There are two 247Sports crystal ball predictions for Michigan to land Uini on Friday. Both are from national recruiting analysts. If you look over at the On3 recruiting prediction machine, the Wolverines have a commanding lead to get the massive tackle. The maize and blue have a 94.5% chance to land him.

As it should, Michigan is competing with the heavyweights on the recruiting front. Friday will tell if the Wolverines can win a big battle against two SEC powerhouses.

The Wolverines have five offensive linemen committed in the 2024 class.

Michigan trending for top WR target after official visit

Got to love seeing this! #GoBlue

Michigan wrapped up its big June official visit month. The Wolverines had plenty of big names and top targets in Ann Arbor this past month and Michigan landed several commitments from those visits.

One big name the Wolverines, and several other schools, have been recruiting is Burley (Idaho) Burley Senior wide receiver, Gatlin Bair.

Bair was in Ann Arbor this past weekend for an official visit. The four-star receiver had a top five of Michigan, Oregon, TCU, Nebraska, and Boise State. But it now appears the maize and blue have made a big impact on his recruitment and the Wolverines now lead for him entering the dead period of recruiting.

Josh Henschke with The Mazie & Blue Review, put in a Future Cast for Bair to head to Michigan. And when you look at the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Wolverines now have a 71.9% chance to land the speedy wide receiver. Oregon is in second with a 9.2% chance.

Here is On3’s scouting report on the 6-foot-2, 40th-ranked recruit in the 2024 class:

One of the top overall athletes in the 2024 cycle who is the nation’s fastest football prospect on the track. Has unverified size, listed at around 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Looks like the nation’s fastest football prospect during his junior track season. Consistently ran scintillating times. Won the state title in the 100 and 200 meters with remarkable 10.15 second and 20.56 second marks. Transfers that top end speed to the grid iron. Shows the ability to blow by corners as a deep threat on vertical routes. Also flashes speed after the catch with the ball in his hands. Eliminates angles and beats defenders to the edge. Also a dangerous return man. Works on the outside and over the middle of the field. Can track the ball over his shoulder. Finished his junior season with 73 catches for 1,073 yards and 18 touchdowns. Shows the considerable twitch and bounce on the basketball court where his above-the-rim athleticism shows on alley oops and dunks in transition. Can improve his fluidity and polish as a route-runner as well as his comfort as a pass catcher. Averaged 14.7 yards per catch, which is on the low end among blue-chip receivers and top draft picks, especially considering his weaker than average competition. Reportedly plans to take an LDS mission following high school, postponing his college enrollment for two years.

Bair also holds offers from teams like Georgia, Florida, UCLA, Texas, Miami, and plenty of others.
