Here are five things to know entering the Week 1 matchup:

5 fringe Colts players who need strong impression vs. Bills

These roster bubble Colts players need a strong impression Saturday.

The Indianapolis Colts are set to play the Buffalo Bills in their first preseason game of the 2023 season.

There are many players who are in the middle of fierce position battles for playing time or even to make the final roster.

With that being said, here are five players who sit on the roster bubble and need to make the most of their opportunities and make a strong impression to the coaching staff in Buffalo.

If they are able to come out strong Saturday, they will be able to continue to build their case for one of the spots when the roster is trimmed down significantly in a few weeks.

Re-grading the Colts’ 2021 draft class

Here’s a look at re-grading the Colts’ 2021 draft class.

Players are typically evaluated on how well they have adjusted to the NFL by the start of their third season. The same goes for the Indianapolis Colts.

By then, they hope to have matured in their play and become meaningful team additions while holding roles that have an impact in some phase of the game on Sundays.

The Colts drafted seven players in the 2021 draft who have now hit an evaluation period as they enter their third season. We’ll be taking a look at these seven picks and comparing their initial grades to where they stand now.

Here’s how we re-graded the 2021 draft class:

Stock up, stock down from Colts’ 28-16 loss to Seahawks

The stock report from the Colts’ loss in Week 1 to the Seahawks.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-1) found themselves on the wrong end of a paltry 28-16 loss against the Seattle Seahawks (1-0) on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

This certainly wasn’t the way the Colts wanted to open the season. It was a poor outing on both sides of the ball in which Indy looked outmatched and outcoached by a Seahawks team that proved to be better in many aspects of the game.

The stock report is fluid. It can change week-to-week based on a player’s performance so it’s best to not get too high or too low. Regardless, there were players who helped their stock on Sunday while others saw their stock fall.

The Indianapolis Colts started off the first pick of the seventh round, one they gained in a trade with the New Orleans Saints. With that selection, the Colts took wide receiver Michael Strachan from Charleston.

Strachan dominated at the Division II level and offers another big, raw athlete to the offense that will make quarterback Carson Wentz even happier.

Strachan, a towering 6’5″ 226 lbs. target comes to Indianapolis after being a mismatch nightmare for small school defenses. He ran an impressive 4.46 in the 40-yard dash time. In 29 career games played at Charleston (WV) Strachan recorded 127 catches for 2,332 yards and 27 touchdown catches.

Strachan is the latest addition to a Colts wideout room with a focus on large outside receivers as of late, joining a couple of talented second-year players in Michael Pittman Jr. and Dezmon Patmon.

While Strachan likely comes in as a sort of raw project player at the position, his athletic ability and testing make one think he’ll be a worthwhile investment to develop into a depth role with the offense later in his career.

If the position shakes out with too many other options above him, Strachan may benefit the most from spending time on the practice squad and growing his game.
