USA TODAY names Justin Fields as one of 17 NFL impact rookies

According to USA TODAY’s Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, former Ohio State QB Justin Fields is going to be one of the NFL’s impact rookies.

All the drama of where former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields goes in the 2021 NFL draft is finally over. He is now a Chicago Bear and it seems the entire Windy City has been swept up with Fields’ fever. The city and personality of the former Heisman finalist should be a match made on Lakeshore Drive heaven.

And while many are on the edge of their seats in anticipation for what the rookie can do, the Bears’ brass has laid out a plan for the No. 11 overall pick to be developed behind named starter Andy Dalton. But how long will that last? Especially if Chicago piles up too many losses on top of the heads of a coach and general manager that have jobs on the line.

USA TODAY’s Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz doesn’t buy it. He thinks Fields will be a part of the blueprint of the offense sooner rather than later. In fact, Middlehust-Schwartz identified 17 rookies he believes will make the biggest impact during the 2021-2022 season, and Fields is among them.

Here’s what the USA TODAY writer says about Fields.

Seahawks select DE K’Lavon Chaisson at No. 27 in USA TODAY mock draft

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA TODAY Sports projects the Seattle Seahawks will pick DE K’Lavon Chaisson at No. 27 in the NFL draft.

The NFL draft is still months away but that isn’t stopping the pundits from issuing their mocks. These earlier versions are likely to see to a number of tweaks before April’s main even as free agency could change major needs for many teams around the league.

With the Super Bowl in the books, the draft order has been officially set so projections for the first round are being written fast and furiously. Barring any trades of course, here’s a look at who the Seahawks could select at No. 27 overall.

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA TODAY Sports believes Seattle will attempt to strengthen its pass-rushing efforts, picking defensive end/outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson out of LSU.

Even if Jadeveon Clowney re-signs – and that’s not a given – Seattle still looks to be lacking off the edge after mustering just 28 sacks in 2019,” Middlehurst-Schwartz writes. “Chaisson has the bend and burst that NFL teams will make a bet on.”

Clowney definitely made an impact last season, but his price tag might not be within the Seahawks’ budget. The increase in the salary cap will be a huge factor in Seattle’s decisions, however, and Clowney might just be around to see the Seahawks make another Super Bowl push next season.
