Former UNC standout Michael Busch taking on utility role

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a plan for former UNC baseball standout Michael Busch as a utility man.

Former North Carolina baseball standout Michael Busch is considered one of the top prospects in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. And here in 2023, he’s hoping to make an impact at the big league level.

To start the season, Busch is down in Triple-A Oklahoma city where he hopes to earn call-up soon. However, the Dodgers are making their plans clear with the infielder.

Rather than just focusing on one position, Busch has struggled to earn a spot and stick to it. So the Dodgers are essentially trying Busch out at a few spots and turning him into a true utility man per Alex Freedman:

As Dodger Blue points out, Busch has been primarily at second base but the defense has been an issue for him. Ideally, he is perfect for the DH but the Dodgers do have Will Smith and JD Martinez fit for there.

This actually sounds like a good thing for Busch, being able to showcase his skill set and work at other positions in the organization. Becoming a utility man could even help him when he does get the call-up to the majors hopefully at some point this season.

A very good dog caught a home run ball at a Dodgers spring training game

What a good dog!

During a Saturday spring training game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals, a home run turned into a game of fetch for one lucky dog.

As Dodgers second baseman Michael Busch hammered one over the wall in Los Angeles’ preseason finale, the ball hopped over just enough to where a dog in the crowd caught it with his mouth and proudly gave it to his owner.

The world needs more dogs that are able to catch home run baseballs, and it was delightful to see everyone in the crowd cheer on the dog as he retrieved the ball for his owner, who sported a K-9 Dodgers jersey.

Spring training may not have actual stakes for the regular season, but if a dog can catch a baseball, it’s still worthwhile for the folks in the stands.

Someone make sure that dog gets to keep the baseball and is given plenty of treats for his very good fetching.

Former UNC baseball standout [autotag]Michael Busch[/autotag] is on a path to the major leagues for the Los Angeles Dodgers. After his hot start to the season in Double-A, the infielder has received the call-up to Triple-A.

And he made an instant impact.

In Oklahoma City’s 13-5 win over El Paso Chihuahuas, Busch hit a home run, finishing the game 2-for-5 with the home run and 2 RBI’s in his Triple-A debut. Busch is the No. 64 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list for the Los Angeles Dodgers and could see himself in the big leagues sooner than later if he keeps this up.

After impressing in Spring Training, Busch slashed .310/.444/.681 in 32 games at Double-A Tulsa and now the Oklahoma City Dodgers this season including 12 home runs and 31 RBI.

Former UNC baseball standout Michael Busch is on a hot streak for Tulsa, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

[autotag]Michael Busch[/autotag] is already making an impact in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization early on this season.

The former UNC infielder was selected in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft, going 31st overall to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Going into this season, Busch was listed as the No. 3 prospect for the Dodgers in their farm system and if he continues to play like this, he could climb even higher.

Busch is currently on a hot streak, hitting four home runs in four games for the Tulsa Drillers, the double-A affiliate of the Dodgers. Check out his home run on Saturday night:

Busch is slashing .320/.470/.720 while hitting 6 home runs and driving in 16 runners along the way. The infielder had a solid season last year for Tulsa but this hot play could earn him a call-up to Triple-A before the year is done.
