WATCH: Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed mic’d up for Week 14 win over Broncos

On the anniversary of his brother’s death, #Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed called his interception against the #Broncos and was mic’d up for it.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to have some fortunate timing when giving their players the microphone this season.

From Travis Kelce’s four-touchdown performance in Week 5 to Carlos Dunlap’s 100th career sack, they’ve mic’d up players for some big moments. This week, they gave the microphone to third-year CB L’Jarius Sneed, who called his shot in a big moment of the game on a meaningful day for Sneed’s family.

“It’s going to be a great day,” Sneed said. “A wonderful day with my brothers.”

Sneed’s microphone picks up S Justin Reid breaking down a huddle for the defensive secondary ahead of the game. It also picks up Andy Reid getting guys hyped up on the bench ahead of kickoff.

His reaction to Patrick Mahomes’ touchdown toss to Jerick McKinnon was also a classic.

“He’s always doing his freaky old, out-of-the-world (expletive),” Sneed said of Mahomes. “15 you different, bro. You different. He’s different, man.”

After Willie Gay Jr.’s pick-six, he comes up to Sneed on the sidelines and tells him, “I joined the team, I joined the interception squad.”

With a fourth quarter lead, Sneed returned to the field with a mission.

“Just block for me, OK,” Sneed says to a confused Juan Thornhill. “Just block for me when I pick this (expletive).”

Sure enough, Chris Jones hit Broncos QB Russell Wilson, affecting his throw. The ball lands right in Sneed’s lap for an interception that would help the Chiefs ice the game. On the sideline he revealed to rookie CB Joshua Williams that Sunday marked the anniversary of his brother’s death.

“You’ve got to keep the ball, bro,” Williams said.

“I am,” Sneed confirmed.

WATCH: Tress Way was mic’d up when he took a big hit in Monday’s win vs. the Eagles

Tress Way got rocked on Monday night — while he was mic’d up.

Washington Commanders punter Tress Way is the longest-tenured player on the team. He is also one of the biggest personalities on the squad, who also happens to be elite at his position.

During Monday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles, fortunately, Way didn’t have to see the field too much as Washington’s offensive controlled the football for much of the game.

When Washington’s offense went three-and-out on its first possession, Way came in to punt from his 13-yard line. Way hit a 47-yard punt but was crushed by Philadelphia’s Britain Covey, who was flagged for roughing the kicker.

It was the correct call. Way was hit hard — while he was mic’d up.

Check it out:

“Holy s—!” Way said. “What the hell.”

Way then got up and left tackle Charles Leno adjusted his shoulder pads. Leno joked with Way as did tight end Logan Thomas as the offense jogged back on the field.

Head coach Ron Rivera even met Way on the sideline and shared a laugh with him.

“Golly, golly,” repeated Way.

“Every time I’m freaking mic’d up I get my world rocked,” he said.

Way took the hit and got the penalty, but unfortunately, Washington immediately turned the ball over leading to Philadelphia’s first touchdown.

In the end, the Commanders pulled off the upset to move to 5-5 on the season.

Jaguars TE Evan Engram has colorful description of stiff-arming Stephon Gilmore

Evan Engram was mic’d up and pumped about his huge stiff-arm against Stephon Gilmore.

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram was pretty diplomatic when reporters asked him Monday about his massive stiff-arm against Indianapolis Colts cornerback Stephon Gilmore, telling them that it was “a cool moment” that lifted the team.

But in a mic’d-up video posted by the Jaguars, Engram had a more colorful way of describing the play.

“Did it look as cool as it felt?” Engram could be seen asking teammate Dan Arnold. “It felt [expletive] awesome.”

Engram’s stiff-arm of Gilmore earned him just enough yardage to convert a third down late in the first half Sunday. It set up a 52-yard field goal for kicker Riley Patterson a few plays later that gave the Jaguars a 17-0 lead.

Other highlights from Engram’s mic’d-up video include him telling his teammates on the sideline, “This [expletive] is fun!”

Through two games with the Jaguars, Engram has 11 receptions on 12 targets for 74 yards.

Tyler Lockett knew Russell Wilson’s hand signals in Week 1

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett knew some of Denver quarterback Russell Wilson’s hand signals and let Seattle defenders know.

The Emerald City rejoiced after the Seattle Seahawks prevailed over the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and came away with an unexpected 17-16 victory over their former franchise quarterback. There were numerous enjoyable aspects of the win, but more can be discovered by listening to what some of the players were saying during the game.

For example, Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who was mic’d up, knew his old quarterback’s hand signals and told a few of his teammates on defense about them.

“If you see this,” Lockett said while gesturing to rookie cornerback Tariq Woolen, “it’s a go (route.)”

Lockett has played with Wilson for seven years, so it figures that he should be familiar with some of his former QB’s signals and overall tendencies behind center.

“They got our same, same stuff,” Lockett told fellow Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf after a play. “I literally called it when he did this,” he said while gesturing to his arm.

Lockett was utterly jubilant along with the rest of the Seahawks sideline and home crowd when Broncos kicker Brandon McManus missed the 64-yard field goal that decided the outcome of the game.

“Change them signals,” Lockett told Broncos wideouts Courtland Sutton and KJ Hamler after the game. “I know this and I know this,” he stated while making the same arm gesture as before.

Seattle has already been written off by many as a non-playoff contender and a speedbump in the road of multiple other teams this season, but it is thrilling to witness moments that reveal that certain veteran Seahawks players still believe that the sky is the limit for the blue and green.

Hopefully, there will be more of these as the season progresses.

WATCH: Xavien Howard mic’d up in Dolphins’ win vs. Patriots

The cornerback was fired up for his defense.

With the start of a new season, the Miami Dolphins, the players, coaches and fans were eagerly awaiting the first time that the team stepped on the field in 2022 with an improved roster and a new head coach.

Cornerback Xavien Howard is entering his seventh season with the Dolphins, and he still clearly has that passion for the game that’s seen him become one of the best players at his position.

During Miami’s Week 1 matchup against the New England Patriots, Howard was mic’d up, and throughout the game, he showed excitement for his teammates and his drive to compete.

Seeing Howard’s reaction to his tipped ball that was intercepted by Jevon Holland was awesome. We don’t typically see that energy from the former Baylor cornerback.

WATCH: Justin Reid was mic’d up when he found out he’d be Chiefs’ kicker

#Chiefs S Justin Reid was conveniently mic’d up for his performance as the team’s emergency kicker in Week 1.

The Kansas City Chiefs shared a trailer for their upcoming episode of “The Franchise” and it revealed a fun moment from the team’s Week 1 game.

Justin Reid was mic’d up for the game and he was sitting on the bench talking with Juan Thornhill when long snapper James Winchester comes over to deliver the news.

“Hey, stay ready,” Winchester said. “Kicking. Butker, he did something to his ankle.”

Harrison Butker had rolled his ankle on the Chiefs’ opening kickoff and Reid was needed as an emergency kicker for the team. It was something that seemed like a joke in preseason and training camp, but became a reality very quickly as the season got started. Reid got off the bench and went over to Dave Toub and very casually says the following:

“Hey coach, you need me to do kickoff too?”

Toub’s response:

“Yes. . . You can kick off, right?”

“Yeah,” Reid says.

He got some work in on the sidelines with Tommy Townsend beforehand, most importantly getting their post-kick handshake down.

“Aye we’ve got to get our handshake down real quick,” Townsend said.

“OK, what are we doing,” Reid responded.

That was a smart move by Townsend to keep things light and keep Reid out of his head before his first PAT attempt, which he sent sailing through the uprights. Sure enough, he could kick off as well. He sent the first one booming 80 yards through the back of the endzone. Patrick Mahomes couldn’t even focus on the sideline because he was so impressed by it.

“Damn, he’s kicking the hell out of that ball,” Mahomes said. “Bro he kicked that thing through the uprights. J. Reid is kicking and he kicked it through the uprights.”

Episode 4 of season 3 “The Franchise” will be streaming on Thursday, September 22.

WATCH: Chiefs rookie WR Skyy Moore mic’d up at training camp

#Chiefs rookie WR Skyy Moore was mic’d up for a recent training camp practice, where he put his route-running skills on full display.

Kansas City Chiefs rookie WR Skyy Moore was mic’d up for the first time at a recent training camp practice, and he didn’t disappoint.

Not only did the rookie show great energy, but he showed great promise with his performance on the field.

“Woo, let’s get it,” Moore yelled as he ran down the hill to practice. “Let’s get it.”

The rookie kept things light with his teammates on the sidelines.

“I’m getting old, bruh,” The 21-year-old said as he stretched ahead of practice.

As soon as practice gets started, you get to see Moore putting in some serious work during one-on-one and team drills. First, he beats rookie CB Joshua Williams with a nice comeback route. Then, he beats second-year CB Dicaprio Bootle off the line with a slick release. Later he beats veteran CB L’Jarius Sneed with just good old body control and physicality. In team drills, he had multiple wins against fellow rookie Jaylen Watson. You can see him making some things happen on a nice little end around to finish up the day of team drills as well.

It’s clear that Moore needs to work on is breaking the huddle after practice. His pre-practice huddle break got some praise from veteran WR Daurice Fountain.

“You sound like a real general there,” he said.

After a hot day of practice, Moore wasn’t able to inspire much energy from his teammates in his huddle break.

“Ice up y’all boys,” Moore said. “Make sure you get y’all body right. Keep them fluids in. Let’s build. Build on 3- 1, 2, 3. Build!”

It drew exactly two people saying, “Build!”

“We will never let Skyy break it down ever again,” Mecole Hardman said to the camera.

It was so bad that Marquez Valdes-Scantling made him carry his shoulder pads back to the locker room.

The rookie will learn, one day.

WATCH: Chiefs TE Travis Kelce mic’d up at training camp

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce was an absolute treat to watch and listen to in the team’s latest mic’d up video from training camp.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is participating in his ninth training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri. For how animated and energized he is on the sidelines and in the huddle, you’d think that this was his first training camp.

Kelce has some classic moments in this latest mic’d up, all caught on audio and video. First, he calls rookie RB Isiah Pacheco, “Pistachio.” He also says, “Let’s get him the ball.” So perhaps that’s a little bit of an endorsement for the seventh-round rookie.

Kelce has also taken a liking to UDFA QB Dustin Crum, who he mimicked several times during the video.

“I love his cadence, man,” Kelce says. “I can’t help it. . . He’s got one tone. He’s just a Cleveland Baller— Northeast Ohio Baller.”

“Is that where he’s from,” Blake Bell asks.

“Oh yeah,” Kelce says. “You can’t tell? You can’t tell from his swagger. No armbands. No leg bands. Mid calf socks. I’m just glad he grabbed a towel.”

One of the exciting things is that you get to see Kelce energizing his teammates on what is clearly a hot and humid day out in St. Joseph, Missouri. You’ve got guys kneeling on the sidelines, hands on their hips on the field and he’s out there encouraging them to keep going.

“That was miserable,” Kelce says to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. “That’s alright, it’s going to get us right.”

“Aye, feel how uncomfortable this is and let’s take it up another notch,” Kelce says. “Let’s take it one more step deeper, man.”

Finally, Kelce wraps it up by chopping it up with some Chiefs legends and thanking them for what they’ve done for the league. Kansas City is extremely lucky to have such a gem of a person and player.

Watch: Best of Falcons head coach Arthur Smith mic’d up

In honor of Arthur Smith’s 40th birthday, the Falcons released a mic’d up compilation with the best of Smith’s first year in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Falcons are in the midst of their second offseason training program under Arthur Smith and the team is finally starting to reflect the mentality of its head coach.

Last season, the Falcons went 7-10 despite having a deeply flawed roster, but after getting out of Matt Ryan and Julio Jones‘ crippling contracts, the future is looking much brighter in Atlanta. With a completely revamped offense, an improved secondary and better overall depth, Smith is better set up for success in his second year.

The former Titans offensive coordinator turned 40 years old today. To celebrate their head coach’s birthday, the Falcons Twitter team released a mic’d up compilation from Smith’s rookie season.

WATCH: Best mic’d up moments from Chiefs’ 2021 season

A look back at some of the best mic’d up moments from the #Chiefs during the 2021 NFL season.

The Kansas City Chiefs had some great mic’d up moments during the course of the 2021 NFL season.

Those moments range from funny to downright impressive feats of skill. Let’s start out talking about the funny, though. For instance, it’s crazy how many different checks the Chiefs have at the line of scrimmage, both on offense and defense, that are named after foods.

“Banana, banana,” Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes called out at the line of scrimmage. “Banana.”

“Nacho, nacho,” Chiefs LB Willie Gay Jr. shouted to his teammates. “Nacho.”

“Curry, curry, curry,” Mahomes said as he approached the huddle. “Curry, curry, curry.”

You just know that Andy Reid’s mind came up with all of the food-related checks and play calls. Mahomes wasn’t the only one talking bananas either, as cameras caught RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire eating a banana on the sideline.

“Noshing on my banana, man,” Edwards-Helaire says on the sideline. “I be hungry as hell.”

One of my favorite moments came in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens. Tyrann Mathieu, who was fresh off the COVID-19 reserve list, had nearly picked off a pass from Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. He started goading the Baltimore offense as they walked back to the huddle.

“Hey, hey,” Mathieu shouted. “Y’all better run the ball, I’m telling you. Run the f-ing ball. I’m going to pick the next one. I’m telling you.”

Sure enough, on the next play, former Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins falls out of his break and Jackson throws the ball right into Mathieu’s chest for a pick-six. He called his shot and the universe answered with a gift.

Perhaps the most amazing moment captured was Travis Kelce’s game-winning score against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round. The excitement from all of his teammates swarming him after the play was something that you almost wish you could bottle.

It’s a little disheartening to watch that only to know what happened a week later in the AFC championship game. Still, it’s fun to look back on the season and it has us plenty antsy for the 2022 NFL season to arrive.
