7 questions facing the Giants this offseason

The New York Giants have a lengthy offseason to-do list and there are several questions that need answering.

The New York Giants just completed a successful 9-7-1 season which saw them qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Their progress under first-year head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen can be seen as ahead of schedule but that doesn’t mean they are about to rest on their achievements. There’s still plenty of work to be done.

Here are seven questions facing the Giants this offseason.

Giants’ Joe Schoen addresses 2022 NFL draft class

New York Giants GM Joe Schoen offers brief commentary on all 11 players from the 2022 NFL draft class, which was his first-ever as GM.

The New York Giants wrapped up the 2022 season on Monday with year-end press conferences from general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.

Multiple topics were discussed throughout the dual presser, including Schoen’s take on the 2022 NFL draft class — an 11-player group that contributed heavily throughout the year.

As a reminder, here’s a look at each of those picks:

  • Round 1: No. 5 – Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE, Oregon
  • Round 1: No. 7 (from CHI) – Evan Neal, OT, Alabama
  • Round 2: No. 43 (from ATL) – Wan’Dale Robinson, WR, Kentucky
  • Round 3: No. 67  – Joshua Ezeudu, G, North Carolina
  • Round 3: No. 81 (from MIA) – Cor’Dale Flott, CB, LSU
  • Round 4: No. 112 (from CHI) – Daniel Bellinger, TE, San Diego State
  • Round 4: No. 114 – Dane Belton, S, Iowa
  • Round 5: No. 146 (from NYJ) – Micah McFadden, LB, Indiana
  • Round 5: No. 147 – D.J. Davidson, DT, Arizona State
  • Round 5: No. 173 (from KC via BAL) – Marcus McKethan, G, North Carolina
  • Round 6: No. 182 – Darrian Beavers, LB, Cincinnati

Although many of these rookies played significant roles, injuries were the theme. All missed time over the course of the 17-game season with the exception of linebacker Micah McFadden.

Some missed the entire season.

Here’s what Schoen had to say about each member of his first-ever draft class.

Stock up, down after Giants’ 27-24 loss to Vikings

Whose stock is up and whose is down following the New York Giants’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 16?

The New York Giants were left heartbroken on Christmas Eve, falling to the Minnesota Vikings, 27-24, on a last-second, franchise-record 61-yard field as time expired.

The defeat dropped the Giants to 8-6-1 on the season and 1-4-1 over their last six games. It also left them without their first playoff berth since 2016, which they will have to fight for next Sunday.

Whose stock is up and whose is down after the Week 16 loss? Let’s take a look.

Giants fall to Vikings: Winners, losers and those in between

The New York Giants came into their Week 16 game against the Minnesota Vikings seeking a win and a possible playoff berth.

A high-scoring game was expected with the over/under hovering around 48 at kickoff. That number was eclipsed but not until the final seconds when Minnesota kicker Greg Joseph nailed a 61-yard field goal — a franchise record.

The final: Vikings 27, Giants 24. The playoffs will have to wait for Big Blue.

Here are some winners, losers, and in-betweens from the loss.

Giants defeat Commanders: Winners, losers and those in between

Giants injury report: Jihad Ward, Richie James return to practice

New York Giants WR Richie James and LB Jihad Ward, who are both in concussion protocol, returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday.

The New York Giants were back on the practice field on Thursday and were hopeful that several injured players would see an uptick in participation.

After a rest day, nose tackle Dexter Lawrence and safety Julian Love rejoined their teammates. Tight end Daniel Bellinger, who was limited on Wednesday, also expressed optimism that he’d be able to play on Sunday night.

Wide receiver Richie James Jr. and linebacker Jihad Ward made positive strides in concussion protocol.

Giants injury report: Jihad Ward in concussion protocol

The New York Giants had 7 players sit out of practice on Wednesday, including LB Jihad Ward (concussion), while 4 others were limited.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday in preparation for a Week 15 game against the Washington Commanders.

In what is an undeniably must-win game, the Giants could use as many healthy bodies as possible. Unfortunately for them, there were quite a few banged-up players in a Sunday loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and the status of players such as Adoree’ Jackson remains very much up in the air.

Safety Xavier McKinney (hand) has already been ruled out for Sunday night and linebacker Jihad Ward is a new addition to the injury report.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: OL Joshua Ezeudu (neck), CB Adoree’ Jackson (knee), OL Shane Lemieux (toe), WR Richie James Jr. (concussion), LB Jihad Ward (concussion), S Julian Love (rest), NT Dexter Lawrence (rest)

Giants’ Richie James in concussion protocol and other injury updates

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll offers injury updates on several players as the list of walking wounded continues to grow.

The New York Giants were already one of the NFL’s most-injured teams entering a Week 14 game against the Philadelphia Eagles and that only got worse over those four quarters.

Several players were forced to exit due to injury and the team is now operating on fumes.

“I think that’s what happens to every team if you take a look around the league. So, we make no excuses,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters on Monday.

Daboll also offered injury updates on nearly 10 players and many were not optimistic in nature.

Giants humiliated in 48-22 loss to rival Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles completely dismantled the New York Giants, 48-22, in Week 14 and celebrated a playoff berth at MetLife Stadium.

The New York Giants entered Week 14 as heavy underdogs against the Philadelphia Eagles and it immediately became apparent why that was.

Philly out-matched the Giants from the opening whistle to the final whistle, and the discrepancies in personnel were exposed. One roster is filled with Super Bowl-level talent and the other is in need of serious work.

The Eagles bullied the Giants up and down the field for four full quarters and ultimately got to celebrate an NFC Playoff berth on the field at MetLife Stadium.

With the loss, the Giants fall to 7-5-1, last place in the division and on the brink of losing their hold on a playoff spot.
