College football 2024 team recruiting rankings – May 2, 2023

Quite the recruiting run in recent days has the Irish climbing

We’ve been tracking the college football team recruiting rankings periodically this off-season as the 2024 recruiting classes are really taking shape following spring football.  Notre Dame had been as high as second in the rankings before a dry spell had them outside the top-five in recent weeks.

Now with the recent additions of [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag], [autotag]Kennedy Urlacher[/autotag], and [autotag]Micah Gilbert[/autotag] in the last few days, the Irish are back near the top.

Gilbert became Notre Dame’s 14th commitment in the 2024 class on Tuesday when he announced his decision.  Not a bad run seeing as just 11 days ago the Irish had nine official commitments.

Where do the Irish now rank compared to the rest of college football?

Here is an updated look at the national top 35 following Notre Dame’s recent run.

*Rankings are from 247Sports composite rankings

Four-star receiver recruit Micah Gilbert picks Notre Dame

Make that three solid receivers in the 2024 recruiting class.

It wasn’t really a surprise, but it was nice to hear nonetheless. Four-star receiver [autotag]Micah Gilbert[/autotag] of Charlotte, North Carolina officially has become the third receiver of Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class, joining [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] and recent commit [autotag]Isiah Canion[/autotag]. Gilbert made the announcement live on 247Sports’ YouTube channel:

By the time Gilbert announced his commitment date, it was clear that he was going to select Notre Dame. All 247Sports experts who made a prediction agreed in the days leading up to the announcement. Count this as another successful recruiting job by the tandem of [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag] and [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag]. They beat out heavy recruiting from Duke and North Carolina, which probably were seen as finalists in part because of their proximity to Gilbert.

It will be very interesting to watch [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] figure out how to balance throwing to the three-headed monster of Williams, Canion and Gilbert. This is the future of the Notre Dame program, and it’s looking very bright.

Will Notre Dame’s red-hot recruiting run continue Tuesday?

Will Notre Dame stay red-hot on the recruiting trail Tuesday?

Notre Dame has been red-hot on the recruiting trail since hosting a plethora of targets during the spring game weekend.  Could the Irish be about to add another commitment to the 2024 class on Tuesday?

Four-star wide receiver Micah Gilbert of Charlotte Christian (North Carolina) is set to announce his college choice at 4 pm. ET Tuesday.  Notre Dame is one of seven finalists for Gilbert’s commitment. Along with the Irish are Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Duke, and Virginia Tech.

Gilbert stands 6-2 and weighs 205-pounds.  In his last two seasons at Charlotte Christian, where he is teammates with recent Notre Dame commitment Bryce Young, Gilbert has hauled in 79 receptions for 1,010 yards and nine touchdowns.  Each of the major recruiting outlets grade Gilbert as a four-star talent and top-40 receiver in his class.

We’ll know if Notre Dame has a third receiver commit for 2024 Tuesday afternoon and we’ll break it down whether it goes the way of the Irish or not so stay tuned!

Notre Dame lands 2024 four-star receiver Isiah Canion

The 2024 corps is starting to take shape.

Finally, [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] has some receiver company in Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class. The Irish had taken an interest in [autotag]Isiah Canion[/autotag], who hails from Warner Robins, Georgia, and they officially extended him an offer in March. Since then, eight other schools have offered Canion, but 247Sports’ experts all had him picking the Irish earlier this week. Finally, the our-star recruit made it official:

So kudos to [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag] and [autotag]Chansi Stuckey[/autotag] for landing who now has to be the most athletic recruit in the Irish’s recruiting class. Canion also excels as a baseball player, and it will be very interesting to see if he joins the ranks of Notre Dame student-athletes who play more than one sport.

For now, the Irish can rest easy in knowing they’ve gotten Williams some help for when he arrives in South Bend. Additional help might come in the form of recruit Micah Gilbert in a few days. Oh, and Williams didn’t miss a beat in reacting to this news:

Notre Dame defensive line target Bryce Young ready to commit

This would be an Irish legacy.

Notre Dame legacies are one of the greatest sources of pride for the university. The football team might be about to land a big one in Bryce Young, the son of Irish legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer [autotag]Bryant Young[/autotag]. Like his father before him, the younger Young is a defensive lineman, and he will announce his college decision Saturday. While USC, Michigan and Tennessee are finalists, many project him to pick to the Irish.

The similarities between Young and fellow Irish target Micah Gilbert don’t stop with who’s seeking their services. Both are four-star 2024 recruits, and both are teammates at Charlotte Christian in North Carolina. Additionally, Gilbert also is projected to pick the Irish when he makes his own decision next week.

Here’s hoping [autotag]Al Golden[/autotag] and [autotag]Al Washington[/autotag] did enough convincing to bring Young to the Irish. We don’t think our own John Kennedy would take him picking the Trojans very well. So for his sake and everyone else’s, we need common sense to prevail.

Michigan football makes top group for 4-star WR in SEC country

He would be a big get for #Michigan. #GoBlue

Michigan football hasn’t tended to have the same kind of high-flying passing game as some other top programs. Yet, talent keeps coming to Ann Arbor.

Current players such as Cornelius Johnson, Roman Wilson, AJ Henning, Tyler Morris, and Darrius Clemons were all four-stars. Incoming wideout Karmello English, who hails from Alabama, is also a four-star. And the Wolverines have gotten the job done with those players, as well as three-stars such as Ronnie Bell.

Now Michigan is targeting another who hails from SEC country. 2024 Charlotte (N.C.) Christian receiver Micah Gilbert released his top seven on Sunday, and the Wolverines made the cut, along with South Carolina, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Duke, and Pitt.

Gilbert’s consideration of Michigan can only be aided by the pledge of five-star quarterback Jaydn Davis, who is also from Charlotte. He’s a bigger-bodied receiver at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, and is rated by 247Sports’ proprietary rankings as the No. 199 player in the country, regardless of position.

According to 247Sports, Gilbert has some high-profile family who also played in the NFL, such as cousins Darrelle Revis and Jordan Whitehead.

Notre Dame offers North Carolina 2024 wide receiver

He’s a big target

The offensive coordinator search continues for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], but before the news that Utah’s [autotag]Andy Ludwig[/autotag] wouldn’t be moving to South Bend, an offer was made.

Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has been filling in for duties that normally his offensive coordinator would have, with the need to continue to recruit at a high level.

The latest offer went out to Arizona wide receiver [autotag]Micah Gilbert[/autotag], a six-foot-three-inch and 200-pound pass catcher. He had a big offer day as Virginia, and Pittsburgh also offered while he previous held one’s from Michigan, Penn State, Louisville and others. Gilbert is ranked as the 45th best wide receiver and 317th overall prospect by the 247Sports composite.
