Patriots owner Robert Kraft has clever way of trying to elevate team

Were Robert Kraft’s Lamar Jackson comments part of a bigger strategy?

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft knew exactly what he was doing when he talked about Meek Mill texting him to have quarterback Lamar Jackson come to New England.

Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard reported nothing is expected to happen between the Patriots and Jackson, ending speculation that had been spreading like wildfire across the internet.

Still, Kraft’s comments might have been a strategy, according to Bedard.

In today’s day and age, when sports and celebrities are mixing more than ever before, the owner’s goal here might have been a genius one. Free agents are always looking for the best team to fit their brand or the hottest brand in the league currently.

Meek Mill’s relationship with Kraft could be considered a smart one in that regard. Per NESN’s Dakota Randall, Bedard wrote:

Kraft’s mention of the Mill-Jackson interaction was to illustrate that younger stars still like the Patriots’ brand, And Kraft’s influence through Mill with younger NFL stars is viewed as an advantage.

It remains to be seen if this relationship ends up helping New England land any major free agents. One thing is for certain: The Patriots will always do what they can to elevate their brand.

Twitter reacts strongly to Patriots and Lamar Jackson rumors

Here’s what fans are saying about the Patriots and Lamar Jackson rumors.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft shook the news cycle to its core on Wednesday with some juicy information from rapper Meek Mill.

Yes, you read that correctly.

According to Kraft, he received a text message from Meek Mill informing him that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson wanted to join the Patriots. It isn’t the typical way you’d expect news to get out, but such is the case with an owner as well-connected as Kraft.

No move is imminent, and coach Bill Belichick will ultimately be the one responsible with making the decision to pursue or pass on Jackson. But given the information that has suddenly been made public, one would think Belichick would at least pick up the phone and give the Ravens a call, right?

The Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard is reporting the Patriots aren’t expected to pursue Jackson, but that hasn’t killed the dream for fans still hoping it happens.

Jackson joining New England would give the team the sort of playmaker at quarterback that could potentially vault the franchise back into perennial Super Bowl contention. It isn’t every day a team has an opportunity to snag a 26-year-old franchise quarterback.

Here’s what Patriots fans are saying about the rumors.

Meek Mill has been privately lobbying Robert Kraft to acquire Lamar Jackson

Yes, you read that correctly.

The Lamar Jackson saga took another turn on Monday as the 26-year-old quarterback publicly requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens.

Jackson, who is entering his sixth season in the league, received a nonexclusive franchise tag from Baltimore earlier this offseason after the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on a long-term deal. However, it seems Jackson now wants out sooner rather than later.

The news comes amid speculation that the Indianapolis Colts could be gearing up to make a move for Jackson after the draft, but apparently, they aren’t the only team that may be in the mix.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft told the media that rapper Meek Mill texted him (?) to indicate that Jackson wants to be acquired by the Patriots.

Though it’s probably wise to take this with a grain of salt, Kraft certainly didn’t refute the idea of bringing in Jackson. He did, however, say a decision on the matter would ultimately fall upon head coach Bill Belichick, who also holds roster management duties for New England.

Still, this doesn’t necessarily bode well for presumed incumbent quarterback Mac Jones, who was selected 15th overall in 2021. After a fairly promising rookie campaign, Jones struggled quite a bit in Year 2 and was benched at one point for rookie Bailey Zappe, who is also on the roster entering 2023.

Regardless of how the Patriots feel about Jones’ development, Jackson would present a clear upgrade. But bringing him to Foxborough also wouldn’t come cheap.

With Jackson under a nonexclusive tag, any team is permitted to sign him to an offer sheet, which the Ravens would then have five days to match. If they don’t, the team that signed him would have to send Baltimore first-round picks in 2023 and 2024.

However, the Ravens could also negotiate different compensation, meaning a team like New England could potentially land Jackson without surrendering two firsts.

We may only be at the beginning of the odyssey surrounding Jackson, and if we already have rappers brokering trade deals, things could be about to get even more interesting.

Robert Kraft: Text from Meek Mill said Lamar Jackson wants to join Patriots

Robert Kraft got a text from an unlikely source stating Lamar Jackson wants to come to New England.

File this under the category of things you’d never expect to hear at an NFL meeting. But then again, when it’s a person as well connected as New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, nothing should really be surprising.

When speaking with media members on Monday, Kraft noted a recent conversation with rapper Meek Mill regarding Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

According to Kraft, Mill texted him a few days ago claiming Jackson wanted to join the Patriots. This news comes after the former NFL MVP posted on Twitter that he asked the Ravens to trade him.

The Ravens placed the nonexclusive franchise tag on Jackson this month, meaning other teams can negotiate with him directly and sign him to an offer sheet that Baltimore could match.

Coach Bill Belichick was asked about Jackson during the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, but he quickly shot down the question since it dealt with a player that wasn’t currently on the Patriots roster.

If Jackson really is interested in coming to New England, it could make things interesting. Would the Patriots actually consider trading for the two-time Pro Bowler, and if so, what would a deal consist of?

More importantly, would Belichick be willing to pay the hefty price tag it would take to land Jackson long-term? There are a lot of questions that have suddenly been amplified by the most unlikely of sources.

Here’s why Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes might change his pregame music routine

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes might be taking Meek Mill’s “Dreams and Nightmares” off the pregame playlist this week. | from @EdEastonJr

The weekly routine for quarterbacks before a game is essential to their preparation. The process of relaxing or, in some cases, exciting the mind before action is what many of the best practices consistently do to ensure the best results on the field.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes uses music as a catalyst to get him ready on game days. The league MVP candidate has many favorites that he listens to, but there could be one song from his playlist that doesn’t make the cut before Sunday. The hit song “Dreams and Nightmares” from Philadelphia native Meek Mill might be on the chopping block before the Super Bowl, according to Mahomes as he fielded media questions on Monday.

“I used to listen to dreams and nightmares. I don’t know if I can listen to that this week, so I might throw on…I don’t know what I’m throwing on this week. I’ll get back to you,” said Mahomes, “Because I’m about to find some new music. I’m a big Meek Mill fan, but I’m gonna have to throw that music down for at least this week at least.”

The Philadelphia Eagles will garner more appreciation for the song due to its hometown roots. Mahomes commented on being excited that music superstar Rihanna will return to the stage as the halftime show headliner.

“I mean, Rihanna is gonna be great, so I’m perfectly (fine) with Rihanna doing it,” said Mahomes. “I’m not gonna be able to watch it, but a lot of my family members are super excited for Rihanna to go out there, and I think they were more excited for that and then then the Superbowl for a couple of them, so it’ll be a great show.”

Music and sports continue to blend seamlessly, especially for massive events such as the Super Bowl. Chiefs fans hope the possible omission of a song won’t affect Mahomes’ rhythm on Sunday.

Tennessee Titans prepping for the Philadelphia Eagles by playing Meek Mill’s Dreams and Nightmares during stretches

The Eagles and Titans Week 13 was already going to be a physical encounter, but now throw in the A.J. Brown dynamic and Meek Mill, and this could be the game of the week.

Tennessee has spent the better part of Wednesday discussing the elephant in the room, which is the blockbuster trade that sent Brown to Philadelphia.

During their first practice of the week, the Titans started off stretching by blasting Philadelphia rapper and Eagles fan, Meek Mill’s Dreams and Nightmares.

Lil Baby tells story of losing $600K gambling with Drake, Meek Mill, James Harden and Michael Rubin

The Grammy winner dished on his gambling habit, including one big loss in the Bahamas.

Lil Baby is undeniably one of the hottest artists in music right now.

The Grammy award-winner’s latest offering released Oct. 14, It’s Only Me, became his third album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and his sixth straight project in the top 10.

But while he can’t seem to lose in music, he’s not immune to the same defeats all serial gamblers frequently suffer. Actually, his success in music means his losses are bigger.

In a recent episode of Complex’s 360 With Speedy Morman, Baby told a story about losing $600,000 gambling in the Bahamas with Drake, Meek Mill, James Harden and former 76ers owner Michael Rubin.

This particular loss still burns judging by the look on his face.

Later in the interview, Baby said that’s not even his worse loss.

“The say you’re gonna lose more than you win, but over time you can’t even remember,” he said. “That’s the crazy part. You don’t even know [if you’re up or down].”

To be fair to Baby, he apparently has plenty of big wins to offset his losses. He said he won $2 million playing Baccarat in Las Vegas.

“I win all the time. I lose all the time too. … I just feel like if I’m lucky today, I’m lucky. If I’m not, I’m not,” he said.

It sounds like Baby is giving Drake a run for his money when it comes to rappers who gamble. Drake, of course, frequently posts to social media his wins on Stake, the crypto betting site he partners with.

Rubin, the CEO of Fanatics, recently sold his stake in the company that owns the 76ers and New Jersey Devils, due to conflicts with Fanatics’ expansion into sports betting.

You can see the two holding hands …

You can see the two holding hands toward the end of the video. It’s clear the Suns guard isn’t single just yet, nor is Jenner. Reports indicated she broke it off with Book because he wasn’t taking the relationship serious enough, but it appears both of them weren’t done with each other and could be giving it another go. The party was also full of countless celebrities and athletes. Meek Mill was joined on stage during his performance by James Harden, Joel Embiid, and PJ Tucker, while the likes of Donovan Mitchell, Draymond Green, and Jayson Tatum were also in attendance. You can’t forget Drake, either, who performed as well.
