Three Auburn commits listed on MaxPreps All-American Preseason Team

Safety Anquon Fegans, running back Alvin Henderson and safety/wide receiver Derick Smith made the cut.

As back-to-school advertisements air on television, the high school football season, specifically at schools below the Mason-Dixon line, is ready to begin.

With the start of “Friday Night Lights”, MaxPreps released its All-American Preseason High School Football Team. Three high-profile Auburn Tiger commits, safety [autotag]Anquon Fegans[/autotag] (First Team), running back [autotag]Alvin Henderson[/autotag] (Second Team), and safety/wide receiver [autotag]Derick Smith[/autotag] (Second Team) made the cut.

Fegans, who committed to Auburn last month, received the nod on the first team after MaxPreps named his to the All-American team as a junior. The No. 5 safety in the 2025 class is looking to build on a fantastic junior season in which he picked off opposing quarterbacks 5 times while racking up 50 tackles. Health permitting, the Alabaster, AL native should make an impact on the Plains as soon as he lands on campus next summer.

Four-star running back [autotag]Alvin Henderson[/autotag] is the only “full time” offensive Auburn commit to receive Preseason All-American honors. A consensus top 20 back in the 2025 class, Henderson originally chose Penn State before flipping his commitment to Auburn in June. Like Fegans, Henderson has an equal chance to make an immediate impact as a Tiger next season with current Auburn running back [autotag]Jarquez Hunter[/autotag] entering his senior season in 2024.

Four-star athlete Derick Smith joins Henderson on the All-American Second Team just two weeks after flipping his commitment from rival Alabama to the Tigers. The talented two-way star will likely line up as a wide receiver once he makes his way to the Plains next summer but will continue to receive reps on both sides of the ball during his senior season at Southside High School in Selma, Alabama.

Besides the trio of highly-ranked Auburn commits, a few other Tiger targets received spots on MaxPreps Preseason Teams. 2025 recruits [autotag]Na’eem Offord[/autotag], [autotag]Andrew Babalola[/autotag], [autotag]Zion Grady[/autotag], as well as 2026 linebacker [autotag]Tyler Atkinson[/autotag] were also featured on the All-American teams.

Sooners offer 2025 4-star prospect Lance Jackson

Oklahoma continues to send out offers to 2025 prospects with their latest going out to TE prospect Lance Jackson.

Jeff Lebby outlined his vision for Oklahoma’s offense when he signed on as offensive coordinator. He acknowledged that tight ends would have a prominent role in his scheme. He wasn’t wrong. Brayden Willis had his best year since becoming an Oklahoma Sooner en route to earning an invite to the Senior Bowl as he prepares for the 2023 NFL drafy.

With that level of production, it should make things easier for the Sooners on the recruiting trail. More specifically, it should make it easier to appeal to tight ends. Or at least Lebby hopes so.

He’s already testing that theory by offering four-star 2025 TE/DE Lance Jackson. Jackson, who hails from Texarkana, Texas, is already one of the best players in his class and will be a national name in short order.

Jackson was a Texas District 10-4A DII first-team selection at TE and DE as a sophomore. And the year before, he was a MaxPreps first-team Freshman All-American at tight end.

Early on, Arkanasas may be the team to beat as Jackson’s older brother, Landon, plays defensive end for the Razorbacks.

Trio of 2022 Sooners commits named to MaxPreps junior All-American team

Three of the four Oklahoma Sooners commits for the 2022 cycle have been named to the junior All-American team by MaxPreps.

The 2021 recruiting cycle will come to a close on Feb. 3 as National Signing Day is almost upon us. The Oklahoma Sooners currently sit with the No. 10 class in the country. On Wednesday, the class will be all wrapped up and the team can focus on the upcoming season. It remains to be seen as to whether or not there will be a spring game this year.

Looking beyond the 2021 recruiting cycle and the 2021 college football season, we have the 2022 recruiting class. The Sooners already have four commitments, with three coming at wide receiver. One of those three, Luther Burden of Cardinal Ritter College Prep in St. Louis, Missouri, was named to the MaxPreps Junior All-American team.

Oklahoma commit was selected on the Class 3A first team by the Missouri Football Coaches Association.

Burden was named along with Ryan Peppins of Thompson (Alabaster, AL) as the two first-team wide receivers. On the defensive side of the ball, fellow Sooners commit Kobie McKinzie of Cooper (Lubbock, TX), was named to the first-team defense at linebacker.

Oklahoma commit was a monster during his junior year and has some of the game’s most impressive tape.

On the second-team offense, MaxPreps listed another Oklahoma commit in wide receiver Talyn Shettron of Edmond-Sante Fe.

Oklahoma commit hauled in 61 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns for the runner-up in 6A-I.

This trio of commits looks to be huge building blocks for the 2022 recruiting class as they get underway in the coming weeks. Lincoln Riley appears to be putting together yet another class of athletes who can get the Sooners over the hump and into the National Championship game.
