Northwestern climbs back into the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

Northwestern climbs into the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after Maryland loses two-straight games:

The Wisconsin Badgers went 1-1 again this week, although they nearly beat the No. 3-ranked Purdue Boilermakers in a nailbiter on Thursday night. The close loss and victory over Minnesota on Sunday were not enough to bring the Badgers into the latest USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

The saga between Northwestern and Maryland in the poll continued this week as the Wildcats climbed back into the poll at No. 25, while the Terrapins went from No. 24 to unranked. Maryland has lost their last two games to Penn State and Ohio State.

The USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll for this week includes Baylor(10), Arizona(9), Gonzaga(8), Texas(7), Marquette(6), Alabama(5), Kansas(4), Purdue(3), UCLA(2) and Houston(1).

It should be interesting to see how the Big Ten shakes out come Selection Sunday, especially with the Big Ten Tournament beginning on Wednesday.

On Wednesday night, the Wisconsin Badgers dropped their second-straight game in a 73-55 loss to the Maryland Terrapins. A bright spot for the Badgers was the scoring of true freshman guard Connor Essegian, who racked up a career-high 19 points.

Essegian and forwards Tyler Wahl and Steven Crowl combined for 43 of Wisconsin’s points, while the rest of the team only scored 12. The Badgers shot 39.6 percent from the field, compared to a dominant 56 percent from the Terrapins. Wisconsin definitely missed the defense of guard Max Klesmit, who did not play for a second-straight game after getting elbowed in the face against Penn State.

The Badgers will face another test at home on Saturday when they match up against the Illinois Fighting Illini.

The Badgers have been playing phenomenal team basketball in the last few games, and it will hopefully continue over the Terrapins, who have struggled in conference play so far this season. Ohio State basketball vs. Maryland: How to watch and listen to the game Monday

After a huge road win in Iowa, Ohio State travels to Maryland to take on the Terrapins in a Big Ten battle. Here’s how to find the game.

The Ohio State basketball team and head coach Chris Holtman have to be feeling good. The Buckeyes are riding a four-game win streak and have won seven of their last eight.

Holtman has OSU playing its best basketball of the season, and it was evident in a big-time road win over No. 8 Iowa. The Hawkeyes were a bad matchup for the Buckeyes with their size and length, but an excellent game plan and some sharp shooting from beyond the arc gave Ohio State the win.

Now the Buckeyes travel to the East Coast to face the Maryland Terrapins in another highly anticipated Big Ten battle. Maryland has been a middle of the pack team with a 4-8 record in the conference and 10-9 overall.

The Terps have knocked off a few top 25 teams, so Ohio State had better come ready for a fight.
