Running back Marquise Davis has committed to Kentucky football

Running back Marquise Davis chooses Kentucky football over Michigan.

There has been a lot of news lately about Kentucky basketball adding players for next season. On Wednesday, Kentucky football added one of their own. Running back Marquise Davis has chosen the Wildcats as him home for 2025.

Davis was predicted to go to the Michigan Wolverines by almost every expert, but decided on Kentucky instead. The 6’0″, 210 lb running back is rated four stars and is a top 200 player in his class overall.

The Cleveland, Ohio product ran for over 2,200 yards this past year while scoring 35 touchdowns. He also caught the ball out of the backfield well.

Davis becomes the highest rated running back recruit at Kentucky since Mark Stoops became the head coach. He had previously expressed his pleasure at the way Kentucky develops running backs. That likely played a part in the surprise decision to join the Wildcats.

Kentucky’s 2025 recruiting class is beginning to take shape. They have now added a couple of four star players and are certain to target more. The Wildcats are still behind the top SEC teams, but adding a player like Marquise Davis is an important step to competing with them.

Michigan football loses out on 2025 recruit it was trending for

Well, this ain’t good. #GoBlue

Michigan football recruiting continues to be something of a conundrum.

The Wolverines had been trending for 2025 Cleveland (Ohio) Heights four-star running back Marquise Davis and looked not only to be in the pole position, but ready to receive an imminent commitment. A couple of predictions came in on 247Sports indicating he was the maize and blue’s to lose and some recent visits had made it appear that there was no way that Michigan would lose this recruitment.

Well, about that.

Unforeseen to everyone, Davis pulled the trigger for big blue, not the maize and blue. With no predictions indicating it would be his school of choice, Davis ended up committing to Kentucky on Wednesday.

Whether Davis thought it was a better fit for him or name, image, and likeness played a factor remains to be seen — though a sudden, out of nowhere pledge seems to indicate NIL played a role.

With Davis off the board, Michigan will have to turn its attention to some of the other running backs it had been wooing, such as Jordan Davison and Bo Jackson.

Michigan football gets two predictions to land elite RB out of Ohio

The comments are gonna say they didn’t really want him in Columbus, watch. #GoBlue

Go ahead and sign into social media. Try it out. Should you do so, what you’re hearing is that Tony Alford can’t recruit.

That’s the parting sentiment from Ohio State fans who are working to rationalize Alford’s departure from the Buckeyes. But it may just be a myth, one created to help those in the state south of Michigan cope with the ever-changing nature of the rivalry.

While former Wolverines running backs coach Mike Hart was an excellent developer of talent, he lacked recruiting prowess. Alford is already paying dividends, and it appears Michigan football may be able to collect soon.

On Tuesday, the maize and blue received two 247Sports crystal ball predictions (from Allen Trieu and Tom Loy) indicating Michigan will be 2025 Cleveland (Ohio) Heights four-star running back Marquise Davis’ school of choice — not Ohio State.

It wouldn’t be the first time in recent memory. The Buckeyes were all-in for Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller four-star RB Jordan Marshall, who went on to be the 2023 Mr. Ohio Football winner. Marshall ended up selecting the Wolverines.

The scouting report on Davis from Trieu:

Two-way player in high school who has been very productive. Plays with physicality on both sides of the ball and runs with tenacity. Does not go down on first contact. Has a bit of twitch and wiggle to find his way through the wash but is more of a north-south runner than someone who will make lots of defenders miss. Has had a high yards per carry average and can get to the outside but has no verifiable speed times. Looks like a guy who is currently fast enough but isn’t a pure speed burner. Catches the ball well out of the backfield when asked to do that. Has gotten in the weight room and gotten stronger leading into his senior year and should be a feature back type in college who can handle being leaned on for a lot of carries and tough yardage.

The 247Sports composite lists him as the No. 166 player in the country, regardless of position. He has an offer from OSU, which was extended to him originally by new Michigan RB coach Tony Alford.

2025 Ohio running back prospect includes Vols in top 10

2025 Ohio running back prospect includes Tennessee football in top 10.

2025 cornerback prospect Marquise Davis announced his top 10 schools.

Tennessee, Florida, Penn State, Texas A&M, Ohio State, USC, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia and Missouri are Davis’ top 10 schools.

The 6-foot, 190-pound four-star running back prospect is from Cleveland Heights High School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Tennessee offered a scholarship to Davis on March 7, 2023. UMass was the first school to offer a scholarship to the 2025 running back on June 7, 2022.

The Vols have seven commitments in its 2025 recruiting class: Quarterback George MacIntyre, defensive lineman Ethan Utley, tight end Jack Van Dorseiaer, cornerback Dylan Lewis, running back Justin Baker, wide receiver Joakim Dodson and cornerback Tyler Redmond.

Running back Marquise Davis puts Kentucky in his final ten schools

Running back Marquise Davis has Kentucky in his final ten schools

The running back position is one that the Kentucky Wildcats seem intent on addressing for 2025. On Tuesday, Bo Jackson announced that the Cats were in his final 12 schools. On Wednesday, fellow 2025 running back Marquise Davis put the Wildcats in his final ten.

Davis is a 6’0″, 190 lbs running back out of Cleveland, Ohio. He is rated four stars, and is ranked inside the top 200 overall by 247sports. He’s the 13th ranked running back in the class.

Kentucky originally offered Davis in June of 2022, but he has had many others since, including some top programs.  He’ll be making some visits this summer, with Kentucky being one of them. The Wildcats will host him on June 14th.

Joining Kentucky in Davis’ final ten are many of the same teams courting Bo Jackson: Michigan, Ohio State, and Tennessee among them. Like Jackson, Ohio State is the current favorite, but that could change as the Buckeyes running back room changes.

The Wildcats have always been a team that wants to run the ball, and will try to add some quality ball carriers to the roster. Adding Davis would be a really nice get for Mark Stoops and Vince Morrow.

Official visit to Florida likely for this 4-star running back

Florida hosted four-star running back Marquise Davis for a multi-day visit this week, and an official visit should follow, per reports.

After spending a couple of days in the Swamp, Cleveland Heights (Ohio) running back [autotag]Marquise Davis[/autotag] expects to be back in Gainesville this summer for an official visit, according to Swamp247’s Donovan Keiser.

While dates are still being made official, Davis is eyeing the weekend of May 31 for his second trip to Florida. He got a pretty good look at spring practices and met with his would-be position coach, Jabbar Juluke.

“I saw everything I wanted to, but it would be nice to come back down here,” Davis said. “On official visits, there is more stuff to do anyway.”

The Ohio State Buckeyes are the favorites to land him with 90% odds, according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine. Penn State (3.5%) and  Michigan (2.0%) are the only other programs with more than a 1% chance.

He already has official visits planned with the Wolverines (June 7-9) and the Tennessee Volunteers (June 21-23). It’s safe to say that Florida is near the top of the pack, but the recruiting process is far from over.

Davis is a consensus four-star recruit ranked the highest by On3 at No. 102 overall in the 2025 class. The On3 industry ranking, which considers all four major services, puts him at No. 186 nationally and No. 12 among running backs in the class. He’s also ranked the eighth-best 2025 recruit out of Ohio.

Ohio State offers in-state 2025 star running back

The Buckeyes don’t have to go far with their most recent offer #GoBucks

There seems to be a bit of a change going on with Ohio State and recruiting Ohioans. Part of it has to do with the talent level in the state, with the upcoming classes having plenty of national prospects.

Another is the fact that other schools have started to make some inroads with Ohio prospects. The Buckeyes still own the state and their recent run of offers show they want that to continue.

Over the past week, head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] has offered talented in-state players like receiver Dorian Brew and twin offensive lineman [autotag]Devontae Armstrong[/autotag] and [autotag]Deontae Armstrong[/autotag]. Today the trend continued as Ohio State offered 2025 in-state running back Marquise Davis.

The Cleveland native is seeing his recruitment pick up as he previously held offers from Penn State, Michigan State, and a few others. This one is different as Davis has impressed the state’s powerhouse program enough to get a scholarship offer.
