Nebraska RB Markese Stepp Enters Transfer Portal

Nebraska Cornhuskers RB Markese Stepp has entered the transfer portal.

Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Markese Stepp has entered the transfer portal, according to Michael Bruntz of 247 Sports.

Stepp began his college career at USC. In 2019, he rushed for 307 yards and three touchdowns for the Trojans.

Stepp transferred to Nebraska in 2021. Last season, he had 45 carries for 177 yards and two touchdowns for the Cornhuskers; he also had one reception for 30 yards.

Most of that production came from his matchup against Fordham on September 9, 2021, as Stepp rushed for 101 yards on 18 carries.

It is surprising that Stepp chose to transfer after only one season.

The Cornhuskers will have plenty of options at running back this season. Jaquez Yant and Rahmir Johnson are both returning. Yant and Johnson combined for 784 rushing yards last season. Freshman Emmett Johnson and Ajay Allen should play a role, as well.

Breaking: USC transfer RB Markese Stepp commits to a Big Ten rival over Wisconsin

The former USC RB is headed to the Big Ten

Wisconsin lost out on a 2021 transfer target when RB Markese Stepp announced his decision this morning. The 2018 four-star USC signee decided to transfer after three years in Southern California, and has been linked to multiple Big Ten schools. He is indeed heading to the Big Ten, but not to Madison, Wisconsin.

Stepp is an Indiana native, and will be moving closer to home with his decision. This morning on Twitter, the former USC RB announced his commitment to Nebraska:

Stepp joins Scott Frost and the Huskers with a chance to immediately lead the backfield in Lincoln. The Badgers will likely see Stepp when Wisconsin and Nebraska meet at Memorial Stadium on November 20, 2021.

USC running back defends Notre Dame during title game

Like has been the case the entire season, Alabama looked like an all-star team that even the best of the best had could barely start to slow down.

Monday night saw the Alabama dynasty continue as the Tide rolled to their sixth national championship under Nick Saban with a 52-24 victory over Ohio State in Miami Gardens, Florida.

As has been the case the entire season, Alabama looked like an all-star team that even the best of the best could barely slow.

After Ohio State was outscored 28-7 in the second quarter, the game was essentially over. Former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn took the time to defend his alma-mater while plenty of others jumped in as well.

One who did was a former Notre Dame commitment who wound up enrolling with its biggest rival, USC.

Markese Stepp, a USC running back who is in the transfer-portal, took to Twitter to defend Notre Dame during last night’s championship.

Sixteen minutes later he reminded us what any rational college football observer already knew, but plenty refuse to accept.

Stepp is an Indianapolis (Cathedral) graduate with two years of eligibility remaining. He originally committed to Notre Dame in the summer of 2016 before taking his commitment back in December of 2017.

Stepp rushed for 505 yards and six touchdowns during his time with USC.

Wisconsin football’s possible transfer portal targets this offseason

The Wisconsin Badgers will need to fix some areas of the depth chart entering 2021 after many seniors left for the NFL. The transfer portal

With the end of a college football season comes an offseason full of movement as teams look to sure-up their depth charts heading into the coming season.

In recent years we’ve seen the Wisconsin Badger football program go after some players in the transfer portal, most notably CB Nick Nelson in 2017 who started immediately and is now playing in the NFL.

Heading into next year there are some positions of need for the team, as their offensive depth chart sees some possible work needed at backup running back and wide receiver and their defensive depth chart sees possible work needed at defensive end and cornerback.

So, with much still to change in the transfer portal and on the roster this offseason, here is an early look as some possible transfer targets for the Wisconsin football program:

Report: Wisconsin is the frontrunner to land USC transfer RB, former four-star recruit

USC Sports Illustrated publisher Scott Wolf reported that the Wisconsin Badgers are the front runner to land USC transfer RB Markese Stepp

Today is gameday for the Wisconsin Badgers as they get set to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

With today marking the final day of the team’s 2020 season, the focus hasn’t turned to the 2021 campaign quite yet. However, there was a report from last night to follow as the Badgers look to build their roster for next year.

That is USC Sports Illustrated publisher Scott Wolf noting that Wisconsin “is currently the frontrunner for ex-USC tailback Markese Stepp.”

Stepp was a four-star recruit in the class of 2018 and was ranked as the No. 307 overall prospect, No. 14 running back and No. 3 player from his home state of Indiana.

The now-former USC Trojan entered the transfer portal on Monday after a 45-carry, 165-yard, 3-touchdown 2020 campaign.

Stepp will have sophomore eligibility next season and could provide a valuable boost to the Badger backfield. The Badgers, then, will hope he returns to his form from 2019 when he broke onto the scene with 48 carries, 307 yards, 6.4 yards-per-carry and 3 touchdowns.

If you have any questions about what he could possibly provide for the Badgers, see the thread below.

Although Jalen Berger has shown sky-high potential this season as the leader of the Badger backfield, the addition of a power back like Stepp would be a valuable one—especially if Garrett Groshek doesn’t decide to return next season.

Wolf’s report is all that is out there at this point regarding Stepp’s impending decision so it will be a situation to monitor as the offseason begins.

USC RB/Former Notre Dame commit “sick” over no meeting

Markese Stepp, a former Notre Dame commitment in the 2018 recruiting class, de-committed from the Irish in favor of USC.

Notre Dame and USC won’t play each other in 2020 for the first time since 1945.  There will be more to come on that later Monday as the shock still feels fresh, but for now a former Notre Dame commitment and now USC running back isn’t liking that there won’t be a battle for any jeweled shillelaghs in 2020.

Markese Stepp, a former Notre Dame commitment in the 2018 recruiting class, de-committed from the Irish in favor of USC.  The Indianapolis native wasn’t exactly thrilled to hear the news of the rivalry being put on hold over the weekend.

The 6-0, 235 pound running back has lost both games he’s played against Notre Dame to date but was a bit of a thorn in the side of the Irish last year as he ran for a career high 82 yards and a touchdown during Notre Dame’s mid-October win over the Trojans.

Even if he ditched his Notre Dame commitment for the stained ketchup and mustard look of USC, I think all Irish and Trojans fans can find a common ground in feeling the exact same way about the fact this rivalry won’t be played in 2020.

Here’s to hoping we get college football at all this fall.
