Notre Dame football signee named states top player by MaxPreps

The Irish got a good one

Notre Dame football got a big in-state recruiting win when Ben Davis High School star [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag] committed then signed with the Irish.

The 5-foot, 11-inch and 165-pound cornerback is viewed as one of the best prospects across the country, ranking as the No. 174 overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Ranking.

Zackery’s senior season was impressive, enough so for him to be named the state’s Player of the Year by MaxPreps. According to their website, the future Notre Dame star had 62 tackles, a sack, 8 interceptions with 4 tackles-for-loss.

During his high school career, Zackery had a very impressive 14 total interceptions, showing that he knows what to do when the ball is in the air. The expectations should be fairly high for his career with the Irish, as he is one of the top ranked players signed during the 2025 recruiting cycle.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all for Zackery to see early playing time, setting up a big second season in South Bend.

Notre Dame commit Mark Zackery IV has a 100-yard pick six in opener

A monster play from the Irish commit

It’s always great to see Notre Dame football commits playing well on Friday nights before they start to play the majority of their games on Saturdays.

2025 defensive back commit [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag] had an unforgettable moment to start his final high school season. The 5-foot, 11-inch, 165-pound corner picked off a pass and raced 100 yards the other way for a score.

The in-state corner committed to the Irish in late May, but Notre Dame would have taken a commitment whenever Zackery was ready. He’s one of the country’s best players, ranking as the No. 135 overall prospect on the 247Sports composite.

This will not be the last time we see Zackery making a big play on defense; he’ll roam the Irish secondary in the near future.

Notre Dame has two commits named to MaxPreps All-America Team

MaxPreps named two Notre Dame football commits, Dallas Golden and Mark Zackery IV, to its 2024 All-America Team.

It’s not just current Notre Dame football players getting preseason recognition, some of the recruits are as well.

MaxPreps announced its 2024 preseason All-America team and two Irish commits made the cut. On the first-team offense is [autotag]Dallas Golden[/autotag], listed as the first team all-purpose player. Zack Poff, who complied the list, noted that the two-way star accounted for “1,800-plus total yards and 24 touchdowns to go with five interceptions on defense.” He’s been recruited as a defensive back.

The second Notre Dame commit that made the list is another all-purpose player in [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag], but on the second team. He’s also committed to the Irish as a defensive back, where he picked off four passes, but also had “53 receptions for 823 yards and eight touchdowns on offense,” Poff pointed out.

There is potential for a third, as uncommitted linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng had the second team defense. It’s hard to get a read on his recruitment since summer visits, but we know that Notre Dame is still an option for Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah’s younger brother.

Notre Dame football adds elite 2025 in-state cornerback

Another big-time member to the secondary is heading to South Bend

Notre Dame football did not have to travel for to recruit in-state cornerback [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag].

The Indianapolis native has long held the Irish in high regard during his recruitment and that paid off on Saturday as the 5-foot, 11-inch and 165-pound corner verbally committed to Notre Dame.

Zackery becomes commitment No. 22 for the Irish in the 2025 class, as it continues to be the top collection in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.

Notre Dame now has commitments from three of the nations top secondary members, as Zackery, who is ranked as the No. 135 prospect and 15th cornerback in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

There isn’t much room left in the 2025 class for Notre Dame, so they have to make sure any commitment they take going forward is a player they really want. Zackery fits that mold.

Blue-chip CB sets decision date, includes Gators in top choices

The Gators are well behind the Nittany Lions in the race for this top CB in the 2025 cycle but they could hear their name called on his decision date.

The summer quickly approaches, which means that college football’s official visit season as well as the commitment dates for many top prep prospects in the 2025 class. The latter category is what concerns the Florida Gators when it comes to its current recruiting efforts.

Four-star cornerback [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag] out of Indianapolis (Indiana) Ben Davis is a top recruit that [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and Co. have been keeping an eye on this spring. The 6-foot, 155-pound defensive back recently revealed his decision date to 247Sports, which is set for May 25.

The Orange and Blue is among the top schools in pursuit of the blue-chip talent and is hoping to hear the call on the big day.

Notre Dame will have a hat on the table when in-state 2025 corner commits

Will the Irish get good news later this month?

If you didn’t know by now, Notre Dame football doesn’t have much room to add on prospects to its 2025 recruiting class.

There are already 20 commits, and barring any flips, the most likely max that the Irish will bring in would be five more players. One of those potential additions could be in-state cornerback [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag], who is ready to end the recruiting process and will commit on May 25th.

There are four schools vying for his pledge: Florida, Cincinnati, Michigan and the Irish. Each of the teams would love to add Zackery to their class, as the 5-foot, 11-inch and 165-pound prospect is ranked as the No. 134 overall player and 15th cornerback in his class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

As long as nothing changes for Zackery from now until when he makes his commitment, it’s looking very good for Notre Dame as they hold the only two 247Sports Crystal Ball picks for the talented corner.

Top in-state 2025 prospect has Notre Dame football in final four

The Irish are in the top in-state prospects final group

Notre Dame football hasn’t had the greatest luck keeping the top in-state player, but the 2025 cycle might be different.

Indianapolis Ben Davis cornerback [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag] is one of the best prospects in the country, not just in Indiana. Ranking as the No. 133 overall player and 16th cornerback according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, he has narrowed down his list to Cincinnati, Michigan, Florida and the Irish.

In the 2024 cycle, the Irish missed out on the top four in-state recruits, but head coach Marcus Freeman has refocused his efforts to keep the best in Indiana from leaving like they did in 2023 when the top in-state player, linebacker Drayk Bowen signed with Notre Dame.

There is potential that this could be a two-for-one for the Irish, as Zackery IV could end up playing basketball as well.

Indiana 2025 cornerback is offered by dream school, Ohio State

His dream school has offered #GoBucks

For 2025 Indiana cornerback, [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag], his trip to Columbus for an Ohio State camp was all about business.

And business was good for Zackery IV, because his performance earned him a scholarship from the Buckeyes. After a conversation with head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag], the 6-foot and 160-pound defensive back was asked to join the brotherhood.

Zackery IV is rated as the No. 28 best corner in the country and 259th overall player in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He called Ohio State his dream school and his mother backed it up by saying “it seems like you’ve been talking about Ohio State since you could walk and talk.”

There is still a long way to go in Zackery IV’s recruitment, but as it stands now, it seems like Ohio State is in a prime position to land the talented member of the secondary.
