Seahawks GM John Schneider takes veiled shot at Russell Wilson’s agent

Schneider is clearly relieved to be done working with Mark Rodgers.

It’s officially the start of free agency and the Seattle Seahawks are already ahead of the game by taking care of their biggest in-house free agent: Geno Smith. The Seahawks signed him to an incredibly team-friendly extension that will allow the team flexibility but also give Smith incredible opportunities to maximize his wealth.

On Monday, a story from SI’s Albert Breer chronicled the journey Seahawks general manager John Schneider took to realizing Smith was the real deal for them. Ultimately, Seattle was impressed by his stretch of play in 2021, the victory over Denver in Week 1, and his stellar season in 2022.

However, one nugget is certainly sticking out. When discussing the actual contract negotiations, Schneider wasn’t just praising Smith’s agent. In his remarks it also appeared to be a bit of a shot at Russell Wilson’s agent Mark Rodgers.

When Schneider says “It was very collaborative. It was not in the media. We didn’t have to worry about Chafie (Fields) going to the media to get his point across” that is a direct reference to Rodgers and the constant drama surrounding Wilson in the last few years.

Every contract negotiation with Wilson felt tense. Aside from setting arbitrary deadlines for Seattle to come to terms with an extension, rumors about Wilson’s future were constantly in the media every offseason.

Remember when Colin Cowherd believed Wilson would play for the New York Giants? Perhaps the greatest example was Adam Schefter’s tweet about how Wilson doesn’t want to be traded… but if he were to be traded these are the teams he would play for.

Eventually, it seems Rodgers’ antics got Wilson and Schneider what they both wanted. Wilson got another massive contract on a team he wanted to play for, and Schneider got an offseason without constant drama. While Schneider is clearly relieved, I’m sure the 12th Man is right there with him.

Report: Bears ‘have prioritized making a run’ at Seahawks QB Russell Wilson

The Chicago Bears “have prioritized making a run” at Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has taken over the headlines the last couple of weeks, especially after his camp named four possible trade destinations Wilson would find acceptable.

One of the teams Wilson mentioned (via his agent Mark Rodgers and some help from ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s Twitter account) is none other than the Chicago Bears.

The Bears, it turns out, may have more than just a mutual interest in Wilson coming to the Windy City.

“The thinking among multiple sources is the Bears have prioritized making a run at Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson,” writes Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribue. “His agent included the team on a list of four clubs Wilson would approve a trade to, although it hasn’t yet reached the point where he’s asked out. Two of the other three teams on Wilson’s list probably can be ruled out. The New Orleans Saints are mired in salary-cap hell and the Dallas Cowboys are expected to keep Dak Prescott. The fourth is the Las Vegas Raiders, and they’ve showed strong public support for Derek Carr.”

While this may simply be a case of a columnist making his argument, his sources could also be correct, and the Bears are readying themselves to make a serious push for Seattle’s star QB.

Whether or not Seattle is as interested in dealing, is a whole different story.

Report: Russell Wilson would consider trade to Cowboys, Saints, Raiders, Bears

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, speaking via his agent, would consider a trade to the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders or Bears.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been busy over the last month, making the media rounds and airing his concerns over the team’s less-than-stellar offensive line heading into the 2021 season.

As of yet, he hasn’t formally demanded a trade, but it seems things are ramping up again.

On Thursday morning, Wilson seems to be making his voice heard (or simply posturing) via a series of tweets from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Seahawks’ QB Russell Wilson has not demanded a trade, his agent Mark Rodgers told ESPN,” Schefter tweeted first. “Wilson has told the Seahawks he wants to play in Seattle but, if a trade were considered, the only teams he would go to are the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders, Bears.”

Then, an hour later, Schefter issued a similar tweet, but with very different overtures.

“Russell Wilson has told the Seahawks he wants to play in Seattle but, if a trade were considered, the only teams he would go to are the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders and Bears, his agent Mark Rodgers said to ESPN,” writes Schefter.

We can’t say for certain what is happening here, except it’s safe to assume Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers, is feeding Schefter information and wants to make sure his message is clear.

Stay tuned throughout the afternoon as this story develops.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson files trademark for phrase ‘Let Russ Cook’

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has filed a trademark for the commonly uttered phrase “Let Russ Cook.”

Russell Wilson recently filed a trademark for the phrase “Let Russ Cook,” a phrase commonly uttered by Seahawks fans over this past offseason.

“The listing on the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s website indicates the trademark would cover cooking utensils, cookware and cooking attire such as chef’s hats and aprons,” writes ESPN’s Brady Henderson. “The application was filed Oct. 6.”

It is safe to say that the Seahawks have heeded the call, as the coaching staff has consistently put the ball in Wilson’s hands. Though Wilson’s interception count has increased, the Seahawks are 6-1 and on top of the NFC West largely as a result of the new pass-heavy offensive approach. The Seahawks still have a few challenging opponents on their schedule, so they cannot let up.

Wilson’s agent Mark Rodgers stated that the proceeds from the trademark will go to Wilson’s Why Not You Foundation.
