Raiders owner Mark Davis got into it with fans who told him to fire head coach Josh McDaniels

You don’t see many owners do this.

Despite having plenty of success as an offensive coordinator throughout his coaching career with the Patriots, Josh McDaniels simply has not been able to carry those winning ways over to head coaching.

We’re only four weeks into McDaniels’ second season at the helm in Las Vegas, and Raiders fans are already clamoring for a change. They’re even going to team owner Mark Davis directly with those demands.

The Raiders dropped to 1-3 on the season after Sunday’s 24-17 loss to the Chargers in a virtual home game at SoFi Stadium. With the Raiders at 7-14 under McDaniels, some fans spotted Davis in the owner’s suite and told him to get rid of McDaniels in the middle of the game.

Let’s just say that the Raiders owner didn’t take kindly to that advice.

Video from the game showed Davis arguing back with the fans, telling them to “smarten up.”

Now, Davis hasn’t been known for his patience when it comes to head coaches, and he often makes changes after just a couple of seasons. But he clearly has confidence in McDaniels (at least for now) or else you wouldn’t have seen him engage in the argument with fans.

Fans on Twitter also had thoughts on the video.

Report: Tom Brady buying minority stake in Raiders, pending NFL approval

Tom Brady continues to make big moves in post-retirement.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has reportedly agreed to buy a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders franchise.

According to SI.com’s Albert Breer, the deal has been submitted to the NFL and will await league approval before moving forward.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Seth Wickersham reported a deal between Brady and Raiders owner Mark Davis was in the works for what would be a “passive” role for the former quarterback within the organization. So there are no expectations of Brady having any actual influence over the day-to-day operations of the franchise.

But it does cut him in as a minority owner of an NFL team.

There’s no reason to think a deal wouldn’t go through considering Brady is already a minority owner in the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces franchise, which is also owned by Davis.

So it’ll be another business deal featuring an influential NFL owner and the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

Tom Brady in talks to become part-owner of Raiders

Tom Brady is looking to become an minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders

He’s the GOAT, and a business mogul, who has a massive 10-year contract with FOX Sports. Next up for Tom Brady could be part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

ESPN reported Friday the legendary quarterback is in deep talks to become part of the AFC West team’s ownership.

Per the ESPN report:

Discussions between the two sides have been going on for weeks and could soon be reaching a resolution, yet sources say it’s still an extremely sensitive and fluid negotiation. Brady’s investment is expected to be “passive,” a source with direct knowledge of the situation says, and he would not have any operational control or authority over the club in business or football matters.

Brady already has an ownership stake in the Las Vegas Aces, the WNBA team owned by Raiders owner Mark Davis.

It would take approval from 24 NFL owners to agree to Brady’s limited partnership. Brady is taking this year off before beginning what is expected to be the No. 1 analyst role on FOX’s NFL broadcasts.

ESPN reported FOX Sports has already “blessed” the arrangement, which should not impact his role with the network.

Sources said that league policy about team ownership overlapping with media employment comes into play only if the owner holds a position of authority at the media company and could impact broadcast rights negotiations. Fox and the NFL agreed to an 11-year rights deal in 2021.

Report: Tom Brady eyeing limited partnership with Raiders

Will the GOAT be the next former Patriot to join the Raiders organization?

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly deep in discussions with former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for a limited partnership with the franchise.

No, Brady isn’t expected to come out of retirement and play for the Raiders. So that’s one less worry off the table, Patriots fans. There won’t be a rematch between Brady and coach Bill Belichick in the 2023 season, when the Patriots visit the Death Star to take on the Raiders in October.

According to ESPN’s Seth Wickersham and Adam Schefter, who reported the story on Friday, Brady’s involvement is expected to be “passive” with no actual influence over the team operations:

Discussions between the two sides have been going on for weeks and could soon be reaching a resolution, yet sources say it’s still an extremely sensitive and fluid negotiation. Brady’s investment is expected to be “passive,” a source with direct knowledge of the situation says, and he would not have any operational control or authority over the club in business or football matters.

Brady has a stake in the WNBA team, the Las Vegas Aces, which is predominantly owned by Raiders owner Mark Davis. So the two sides clearly already have a working relationship with one another.

It probably also helps that the Raiders’ coach. Josh McDaniels, was Brady’s longtime former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. There have also been a slew of former Patriots players that have suddenly found themselves joining the Raiders, including Chandler Jones, Jakobi Meyers, Jimmy Garoppolo and others.

One thing is certain: It doesn’t get any better than being tied to the hip with a proven winner like Brady, who will likely excel off the field as much as he has on it.

Fans ripped Raiders owner Mark Davis for criticizing Athletics’ potential move to Las Vegas

Who knows where the A’s could have gotten that idea?

For nearly 40 years, the Oakland Athletics and now Las Vegas Raiders were tenants of the same venue — the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

However, both spent quite a bit of time and effort in recent decades trying to leave the aging and out-of-date stadium. For the Raiders, that culminated in a move to Las Vegas and a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility, Allegiant Stadium, in 2019.

Now, it seems those franchises could reside in the same city, once again. The Athletics announced earlier this week that they purchased land on the Las Vegas Strip to build a new stadium of their own, which is expected to be completed by 2027.

It’s worth noting that the current lease at the Coliseum expires in 2024, so it’s unclear what the team plans to do in the meantime.

Still, with the move to Sin City seeming inevitable, one would think Las Vegas sports fans would be thrilled to land a Major League Baseball team, which would become the city’s third professional franchise.

One Vegas resident, however, was not: Raiders owner Mark Davis.

Davis is not happy that the Athletics are leaving Oakland without a deal after, as he put it, making it “impossible” for the Raiders to build a stadium on the Coliseum site. He didn’t mince words when criticizing the team’s approach in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“I won’t forget what they did to us in Oakland,” he said. “They squatted on a lease for 10 years and made it impossible for us to build on that stadium. They were looking for a stadium. We were looking for a stadium. They didn’t want to build a stadium, and then went ahead and signed a 10-year lease with the city of Oakland and said, ‘We’re the base team.’

“They marketed the team as ‘Rooted in Oakland.’ That’s been their mantra through the whole thing. The slogans they’ve been using have been a slap to the face of the Raiders, and they were trying to win over that type of mentality in the Bay Area. Well all they did was (expletive) the Bay Area. For them to leave Oakland without anything is pretty screwed up because that site that the stadium was on was a good site. We ended up in Las Vegas, which is absolutely fantastic and couldn’t be better, but the A’s never gave us a real good chance to stay up in Oakland.”

While Davis may have some valid points about the A’s making it difficult for the Raiders to remain in the Bay Area, the apparent hypocrisy of a man who moved his team from Oakland to Las Vegas criticizing another franchise for doing the same was not lost on baseball fans.

Marcel Reece resigns as Raiders Senior VP after just one year on the job

Two months shy of one year on as Raiders Senior VP, Marcel Reece has resigned

For some time now Marcel Reece has been a part of the Raiders in some capacity. First it was as a player, then returning in the title of senior advisor to owner Mark Davis and most recently promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff. Today he resigned.

This ended employment with the Raiders that dates back 15 years.

He first joined the Raiders as a player. He signed to the practice squad in 2008, seeing his first game action in 2009. A switch to fullback for the former wide receiver proved to be his ticket to success. He would make three straight Pro Bowls from 2012-14. His final season with the Raiders was in 2015 and he played one more NFL season in Seattle in 2016.

After his retirement, he was often seen around the Raiders, usually at Mark Davis’s side. So, in 2020, Davis made it official, naming Reece his Senior Advisor.

May 21 of last 2022, Reece was promoted to Senior VP and today, after less than a year on the job, he resigned.

Watch: Raiders legendary WR Cliff Branch official induction into Pro Football Hall of Fame

See Cliff Branch presented for the Hall of Fame by sister Elaine and Raiders owner Mark Davis

Delayed, but not denied. Those are the words Cliff Branch’s sister Elaine Anderson when she took the stage to enshrine her late brother into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Here she is along with Raiders owner Mark Davis to present Branch for the Hall of Fame.

Delayed is a nice way of putting it. For the “delay” was so long that it robbed Cliff and the rest of us of allowing him to take the stage and accept enshrinement himself.

Branch was extremely deserving of being in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And that was always the case. It should not have taken over 30 years for him to get the call. It was at year 28 of his eligibility in 2019 that Cliff passed away.

Branch’s induction was arguably the last in a previous Raiders legend logjam that included the likes of Ray Guy, Ken Stabler, and Tom Flores, all of whom required the Senior Committee to finally get their due. For Branch and Stabler, that due would come posthumously.

Now Branch joins his legendary teammates and coaches to be immortalized in the hallowed halls of Canton.

NFL fans loved watch Raiders owner Mark Davis crush some wings during Hall of Fame game

Mark Davis loved those wings.

Ah, preseason football.

NFL fans try to get hyped up for it, but then we all realize it’s preseason football and the focus goes elsewhere.

That’s kind of what happened Thursday night as the Las Vegas Raiders and the Jacksonville Jaguars faced off in the annual Hall of Fame game in Canton.

NBC cameras caught Raiders owner Mark Davis eating while watching, and everyone started tweeting about him eating some wings. Why? Because it’s a preseason game! And Davis was really going to town on said wings … while wearing a white shirt.

Seriously, this might have been the best moment from Thursday:

NFL owners: They’re just like us!

Like many football fans, Mark Davis wanted to eat some chicken wings during the first half of the Hall of Fame Game.

With football back — provided you consider the Hall of Fame Game what you were looking for — fans are excited to be back to some of their favorite pastimes. Specifically, hanging around with friends, with some beverages at the ready, and digging into some of your favorite snacks.

Perhaps some chicken wings.

In that spirit, we here at Touchdown Wire present our first — and likely last — installment of “NFL Owners: They’re Just Like Us!” starring Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis, who was caught on camera during the first half of the Hall of Fame Game doing, well, what perhaps many of us were tonight.

Chowing down:

This response perhaps won the internet for Thursday night:

Mark Davis recently renewed his blessing for Colin Kaepernick to get a shot with Raiders

Credit due to Mark Davis for following through on his words that Raiders would ‘welcome [Colin Kaepernick] with open arms.

It has been five years since Colin Kaepernick has taken an NFL snap. The former 49ers starting QB in the Super Bowl was seemingly blacklisted from the league for starting the trend of kneeling during the playing of the national anthem in protest of racial profiling and police brutality.

There’s no question his talent would have been welcome across the league under normal circumstances. And despite several teams being asked about the possibility of signing Kaepernick and many responses that suggested they weren’t opposed to the idea, no team would come close to him.

For that reason, when Mark Davis was asked a couple years ago about whether he would be open to giving Kaepernick a shot, his response saying he had given his blessing for it didn’t generate much in the way of headlines.

Then just a month ago, Davis seemed to reiterate in somewhat stronger language his willingness to bring Kaepernick on board.

This response made some waves, but there is still a big difference between what Davis — or anyone for that matter — says the “would” do versus what they “will” do.

Still, with a whole new coaching staff and personnel department, it seemed a pretty clear message where he stands.

Now today, reports have the Raiders following through with their owner’s wishes and are giving Kaepernick a workout — something he has long sought, but rarely received.

It’s unclear whether Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler felt some pressure to give Kaepernick the shot Davis had wanted, or if they had been thinking about it already and his words gave them permission to pull the trigger. Regardless, there’s little doubt the Raiders are now proving Davis’s words were not same empty lip service we have heard from most around the NFL when Kaepernick’s name has come up.
