UFC on ESPN 59 Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay: 2024 total passes $4 million

The UFC has now issued more than $4 million in Promotional Guidelines Compliance to its fighters in 2024 after UFC Denver.

DENVER – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 59 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $180,500.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC on ESPN 59 took place at Ball Arena in Colorado. The card aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,500; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $42,000 while title challengers get $31,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-59 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

Luana Santos made Mariya Agapova’s mouthguard soar from her mouth with a nasty choke at UFC on ESPN 59.

[autotag]Luana Santos[/autotag] gave [autotag]Mariya Agapova[/autotag] a rough welcome back to competition from a long layoff on Saturday at UFC on ESPN 59.

In the women’s flyweight prelim matchup at Ball Arena in Denver, Santos (8-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) used a slick judo throw to toss Agapova (10-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) to the mat. She proceeded to threaten with multiple submission attempts before locking in a rear-naked choke for the tap at the 3:26 mark of Round 1.

Agapova’s mouthguard was coming out of her mouth as the choke was being locked in, and that caused her to flail as the referee stepped in. Check out the replay of the submission below (via X):

With five consecutive victories in her career, the 24-year-old Santos said she is proud of the performance because it reflected the hard work in her training camp.

“I’ve been training to get back for months,” Santos told Paul Felder through an interpreter in her post-fight interview. “It’s four months of training to get the back. … I’m so glad I trained that much, because I was able to get her and get the rear-naked choke.”

Gillian Robertson’s name is all over the record books after another submission win at UFC Fight Night 210.

The UFC’s final event of September took place Saturday with UFC Fight Night 210, which went down at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and featured 13 fights on the docket.

The last of those fights was an important showdown in the bantamweight division. Gillian Robertson’s rear-naked choke finish of Mariya Agapova was tough to watch.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Gillian Robertson[/autotag] added to her record for most submissions by any female in UFC history against [autotag]Mariya Agapova[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 210.

After some difficulties getting the bout to the mat in the first round of the women’s flyweight bout at the UFC Apex, Robertson (11-7 MMA, 8-5 UFC) finally got the action to her sweet spot in the second frame when she took Agapova’s (10-4 MMA, 2-3 UFC) back. She made the most of the opportunity, choking her opponent out cold in what was a scary-looking finish.

Agapova woke up from the choke and embraced with Robertson, who is a former training partner at American Top Team in Florida.

Not only does Robertson hold the record for most submission wins in women’s UFC history, but she also has the most finishes in the 125-pound division with seven.

The Canadian has a plethora of experience at just 27 years old and said in her post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier that she hopes to turn a corner to the top of her weight class.

UFC 272 adds grudge match between former teammates Mariya Agapova, Maryna Moroz

Things have gotten personal over the past year, but Mariya Agapova and Maryna Moroz have a date to work out their greivances.

[autotag]Mariya Agapova[/autotag] and [autotag]Maryna Moroz[/autotag] don’t like each other and now they’ll have the opportunity to take out their aggression inside the UFC cage.

The two women’s flyweight fighters have been paired up for UFC 272, which takes place Saturday, March 5 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card streams on ESPN+ pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN/ESPN+.

Both fighters confirmed the booking on social media Monday following an initial report from Brazilian news outlet Combate.

Once teammates at American Top Team, Agapova (10-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and Moroz (10-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) have engaged in a public spat through interviews over the past year.

The rivalry turned public after Moroz openly accused Agapova of drug abuse and threats against teammates at the gym franchise’s flagship location in Coconut Creek, Fla.

Agapova’s manager Alex Davis denied the allegations in an interview with MMA Fighting shortly thereafter. Following her October win over Sabina Mazo, Agapova, who now trains at American Top Team’s Sunrise, Fla. location, called out Moroz.

“She’s just jealous, and second, she’s sneaky,” Agapova said at a post-fight news conference. “She tried to destroy my career. I lost sponsorships because of her interview and got in a big trouble situation, and I would like to punish this b*tch because she tried to destroy my career. I want to smash her.”

After outstriking [autotag]Sabina Mazo[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) for more than two rounds in Saturday’s women’s flyweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Agapova (10-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) got a big-time finish when she dropped her foe with a slick right hand, then pounced on a rear-naked choke to get the tap – all within the blink of an eye.

It was a perfect way for Agapova to put her previous fight behind her. She was the victim of an all-time upset against Shana Dobson in August 2020, but came back to become the first to finish Mazo inside the distance.

After the win, Agapova’s emotions poured out.

“Thank you so much for my coach and my friend,” Agapova said in her post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “I got in a very bad situation before my fight financially and all my friends helped me. Thank you to all my friends. Sabina is very tough opponent. I had tough fight with her. Very hard.”

She also had a callout ready to go. She targeted Maryna Moroz (10-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC), who had some harsh words for Agapova after her departure from American Top Team.

“I would like to call out Maryna Moroz because she talked sh*t about me in an interview,” Agapova said.
