The UFC has tabbed a couple of big men to headline the promotion’s return to St. Louis.

On Saturday, the UFC announced that [autotag]Derrick Lewis[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Rodrigo Nascimento[/autotag] will serve as the main event for UFC Fight Night on May 11 at Enterprise Center. The event marks the UFC’s first in St. Louis since Jan. 14, 2018.

Lewis (27-12 MMA, 18-10 UFC) vs. Nascimento (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is a matchup of two top-15 heavyweights headed in different directions.

Lewis, 39, has been on a downswing ever since his interim title-fight loss to Ciryl Gane in August 2021 at UFC 265. Including that result, Lewis is 2-5 since then. He most recently lost a five-round unanimous decision to Jailton Almeida last November.

Nascimento, 31, hasn’t been very active, competing just five times since joining the UFC in 2020, but he’s on a three-fight winning streak. He defeated Tanner Boser and Ilir Latifi by split decision before most recently taking a unanimous decision from Don’Tale Mayes last November.

With the addition, below is the updated lineup for UFC St. Louis:

  • Derrick Lewis vs. Rodrigo Nascimento
  • Alonzo Menifield vs. Carlos Ulberg
  • Jared Gooden vs. Kevin Jousset
  • Tabatha Ricci vs. Tecia Torres

Rodrigo Nascimento wants top 15 opponent after win over Ilir Latifi at UFC Fight Night 224

UFC heavyweight Rodrigo Nascimento hopes to net a ranked opponent in his next fight.

LAS VEGAS – UFC heavyweight [autotag]Rodrigo Nascimento[/autotag] hopes to net a ranked opponent in his next fight.

Nascimento (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) defeated Ilir Latifi (16-9 MMA, 9-7 UFC) by split decision in this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 224 prelims at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

With momentum on his side having won two straight bouts, the 30-year-old Brazilian has his eye on the top 15 heavyweights.

“I will be happy with someone in the top 15,” Nascimento told reporters at the post-fight news conference. “I don’t have any names, but I will be happy with somebody in the top 15 for sure.”

Nascimento’s fight with Latifi was close, with Latifi raising his hands moments after the horn sounded. But Nascimento was confident that he had done enough to earn the win on the judges’ scorecards.

“I won the first and the third round,” Nascimento said. “The second I lost, but it was a really, really close round.”

Nascimento started out his career having finished all his professional wins. His past two have gone the distance, but Nascimento is happy to log in the minutes.

“This fight is really, really important for me to show everyone I can fight three rounds,” Nascimento said. “Normally, heavyweights can just fight one, one-and-a-half rounds and get super tired, but I’m different. I have better conditioning to fight three rounds. Maybe one day, five rounds.”

Ilir Latifi vs. Rodrigo Nascimento heavyweight bout in the works for UFC Fight Night on May 20

A UFC heavyweight bout pitting Ilir Latifi and Rodrigo Nascimento is on tap for May.

[autotag]Ilir Latifi[/autotag]’s heavyweight run continues.

The former UFC light heavyweight contender is expected to return to the cage against [autotag]Rodrigo Nascimento[/autotag] as they will join the lineup for a UFC Fight Night on May 20. The location and venue for the event have yet to be announced.

Two people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the matchup on Wednesday but requested anonymity since the UFC has yet to make an announcement.

Latifi (16-8 MMA, 9-6 UFC) is currently on a two-fight winning streak. After losing a decision to Derrick Lewis in his return to the heavyweight division, Latifi has outpointed Tanner Boser and most recently Aleksei Oleinik. In his last fight against Oleinik this past October, Latifi was suspended for three months by the Nevada Athletic Commission for revealing he had staph infection in his post-fight interview – something he didn’t disclose to the NAC prior to the fight.

Nascimento (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is also fresh off a win over Boser. The Brazilian defeated him by split decision in his most recent outing back in September.

Prior to that, Nascimento had gone over a year without competing as he served a six-month suspension by the NAC after testing positive ritalinic acid, a metabolite of methylphenidate, which is a banned stimulant. His TKO win over Alan Baudot was overturned to a no contest in consequence of the positive test.

The updated lineup for the UFC’s May 20 event includes:

  • Vanessa Demopoulos vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz
  • Anthony Hernandez vs. Edmen Shahbazyan
  • Ilir Latifi vs. Rodrigo Nascimento
