Browns worked out 11 players as they search for 90th man

The Browns tried out 11 players as they look to fill out Perrion Winfrey’s roster spot

The Cleveland Browns were finally forced to release defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey after he was in the news yet again. This, however, has left them with an open roster spot as they report for training camp today.

They went out of their way to try out 11 different players yesterday as they look to fill the roster spot left by Winfrey. It started with two linebackers, but the list turned out to be much deeper.

Here are the 11 players who auditioned for Cleveland’s 90th roster spot.

Four Buckeyes in the USFL for 2023 #GoBucks #USFL

The second season of the United States Football League 2.0 has kicked off and it appears this spring league may be here to stay. A few former Ohio State players have shined, and we like to keep tabs on it all.

It is always great to see former Buckeyes live their dream, and I will always tune in and pay attention to alternative football leagues to support these young guys chasing their dreams. The USFL has eight teams: the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, Memphis Showboats, Michigan Panthers, New Jersey Generals, New Orleans Breakers, Pittsburgh Maulers and the Philadelphia Stars. Let’s dive into the four former Buckeyes that see action in the USFL.

Five of Ohio State football’s most memorable games vs. Penn State #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes will face the Penn State Nittany Lions for the 37th time in program history on Saturday at noon ET. Against its conference opponent, Ohio State is 22-14.

The largest margin of victory for the Buckeyes came in 2013 when Ohio State put the hammer down, 63-14, with Urban Meyer as head coach. The largest margin of victory for Penn State came in 1994 when the Nittany Lions won, 63-14.

The first meeting between the two programs was in 1912 when the Buckeyes lost to Penn State, 37-0. The longest win streak by Ohio State against the Nittany Lions is five. The active streak dates to 2017.

But what are some of the most memorable meetings between the two? Here are five of them as we take you down memory lane.

Every former Buckeye in the USFL updated after supplemental draft

Every former Buckeye in the USFL: updated after supplemental draft #GoBucks #USFL

The United States Football League is back and despite not seeing talent like Steve Young, Herschel Walker, or Reggie White suit up anytime soon, it will still be a fun experience and more than a few former Ohio State Buckeyes will get another shot to chase their dreams.

We originally broke down every former Buckeye drafted in the 35 round expansion draft and then we covered the additions of a few more Buckeyes from the USFL supplemental draft. With all of those somewhat dizzying moments, we thought it would be a good time to recap every former Ohio State stud in the USFL. Who will be your favorite USFL team?

Former Buckeye four-star heads to USFL in supplemental draft

Former Buckeye four-star heads to USFL #GoBucks #USFL

The United States Football League, better known as the USFL 2.0, held their expansion draft a few weeks ago and a few former Ohio State Buckeyes were selected including fan favorites Johnnie Dixon and Mike Weber, but this week the USFL held a supplemental draft.

In the last draft, each round was broken down by positional group, but the supplemental draft was more of a standard best player available type draft, which is what I always prefer. We discussed the selection of Matthew Burrell to the Tampa Bay Banidts, but a few picks later, Marcus Baugh was selected by the Michigan Panthers with the fourth pick in the third round.

Baugh was a four-star recruit who was fairly productive in his final two seasons at Ohio State, with 52 receptions for 573 yards and seven touchdowns. He went undrafted and spent a brief time in the NFL with the Raiders before playing extremely well with the San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football. Baugh had more stops with the Carolina PanthersWashington Football Team, and Pittsburgh Steelers and should dominate in the USFL.

As more news becomes available with the USFL, and as play gets started, we’ll continue to keep an eye on these former Ohio State football players.

Former Ohio State tight end Marcus Baugh signs with Steelers

Another former Buckeye has found a home in the steel city.

Former Ohio State tight end Marcus Baugh is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers with a new contract according to a release from the team.

Baugh played for the Buckeyes from 2013 to 2017 under Urban Meyer but went undrafted in the 2018 NFL draft. He did land a tryout with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent but was released before the start of the season. He then spent some time with the San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football before the league folded.

Baugh got another shot at the NFL when he was signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2019. Injuries hindered him, however, and he was eventually waived in early 2020 before the Washington Football Team picked him up late last year. He spent time on and off the active roster and was released by the team in May.

Baugh joins two more Buckeyes on the Steelers’ roster, quarterback Dwayne Haskins and defensive lineman Cameron Heyward.

Washington releases tight end Marcus Baugh

When the Washington Football Team signed international free agent tight end Sammis Reyes before the 2021 NFL draft

When the Washington Football Team signed international free agent tight end Sammis Reyes before the 2021 NFL draft and selected Boise State tight end John Bates in the fourth round of the draft, there was going to be a subsequent move at the position.

On Monday, that move was made when Washington released 26-year-old tight end Marcus Baugh.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Baugh signed with Washington in March 2020. He initially made the WFT’s opening roster before being released on Oct. 22. Washington re-signed him just two days later to the team’s practice squad. Baugh was called back up to the active roster on Dec. 9, where he would finish the season.

Washington has a solid starter at tight end in Logan Thomas. In addition to bringing in Reyes and Bates, Washington also signed veteran tight end Deon Yelder last week. That gives the Football Team seven tight ends on the 90-man offseason roster.

Baugh, who played collegiately at Ohio State, had one catch for two yards in 2020 — the first catch of his NFL career.

Ron Rivera shouts out TEs Logan Thomas and Marcus Baugh after practice

Two tight ends in Washington, both Baugh and Thomas, have stood out in camp, and they got some love from Rivera on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, we questioned whether or not Washington might be okay at the tight end position, thanks to the breakout of Logan Thomas and Marcus Baugh in training camp.  Our consensus was that it may be a bit too soon to say that Washington will be fine at that position, but the continued growth of those two players, in particular, is something extremely intriguing to keep your eye on.

It seems that head coach Ron Rivera agrees, as he mentioned after practice on Monday that both players are looking great, alluding to an impactful season from both of them.

An interesting thing to note is how Baugh — who went undrafted after coming out of Ohio State in 2018 — has seemingly replaced Richard Rodgers in the TE ranks, with Jeremy Sprinkle finishing out the trio of big pass-catchers.

What’s clear so far is that Dwayne Haskins seems to be loving the addition of some healthy TEs in Washington, and he’s going to them in the passing game as much as he can.

Dwayne Haskins, Chase Young, and the Redskins to return to Ohio in Week 3

The Washington Redskins–who have a roster filled with high-profile former Buckeyes–will face the Cleveland Browns in Week 3 this season.

Dawyne Haskins has not played competitive football in the state of Ohio since he finished his Buckeye career in 2018. Terry McLaurin, who earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors last season, hasn’t played in Ohio since leaving Ohio State either. And, of course, Chase Young has not played football since finishing at Ohio State in December.

The Washington Redskins have a roster studded with high-profile former Buckeyes. Haskins is the only former Ohio State quarterback currently starting in the NFL. After a rough start in his first few games, Haskins became a solid starter for the Redskins, who hope that the former Buckeye will be their leader for the future.

McLaurin, meanwhile, became an instant rookie sensation at wide receiver, hauling in a 69-yard touchdown catch in his first NFL game. McLaurin was a bit of a surprise. He was expected by most to be a solid receiver, but nowhere near the star that he quickly became.

And, of course, Chase Young was just drafted by the Redskins, who expect him to contribute instantly. There is plenty of reason to expect big things from Young from day one, given his skill set and what he showed in his time at Ohio State.

The Redskins also have a fourth Buckeye, tight end Marcus Baugh, on the roster. All four of these former Buckeyes will be returning to play professional football in Ohio when the Redskins visit the Browns in Week 3. It is too soon to tell what sports will be like when September 27th rolls around, but if there are fans in the stands then you can expect whatever fans are in the stands to give these former Buckeye standouts a warm welcome in their return to the Buckeye states.

The Browns, meanwhile, currently have two former Buckeyes on their roster–offensive lineman Malcomlm Pridgeon and cornerback Denzel Ward.

The Redskins will also play the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11 this coming year, but that game will be in Washington.

Redskins add Marcus Baugh at tight end

The Redskins added depth at TE.

The Washington Redskins announced a minor roster move after the combine, adding tight end Marcus Baugh to the roster.

Baugh entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and has yet to make his debut. He spent last year on injured reserve with Ron Rivera’s Carolina Panthers before becoming available.

It’s a reunion for Baugh and Rivera in Washington. He’ll also get to again work with tight ends coach Pete Hoener and offensive coordinator Scott Turner after doing so in Carolina.

While a small move, it isn’t an unimportant one considering the Redskins lost Vernon Davis to retirement and cut Jordan Reed.

If anything, Baugh’s arrival is just an appetizer of sorts before the Redskins presumably make a much bigger upgrade in free agency or the draft.
