Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive end Malik Herring has made the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster. Herring was not selected in the 2021 NFL draft after tearing his right ACL at the 2021 Senior Bowl.

Herring was projected to be selected in the middle rounds of the draft before his injury. Herring’s late January 2021 injury was a key reason he was not picked in the 2021 draft.

Herring’s presence helped Georgia have great run defenses that were also disruptive of quarterbacks. Herring had four career sacks, four career pass deflections and 76 career tackles at Georgia.

Now, Herring will have a chance to earn playing time and a spot on the game day active roster. Herring is dealing with an oblique injury, but is happy to make Kansas City’s roster.

The former Georgia Bulldog standout had a strong start in the preseason. He recorded four tackles, a half sack and a quarterback hit in his first game this preseason.

What Georgia Bulldogs have declared for the 2021 NFL Draft?

Numerous Georgia Bulldogs have announced that they intend to enter into the 2021 NFL Draft and several others are staying in Athens.

Eleven Georgia Bulldogs have announced that they intend to enter into the 2021 NFL Draft. Remaining players have about a week to make a decision on their NFL future. Additionally, six notable players have announced that they’re returning to the University of Georgia for another season.

The 2021 offseason is unique because players can transfer and be immediately eligible. The 2020 season does not count against anybody’s eligibility either.

Kirby Smart and Georgia will have to replace five defensive backs who have declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. The Bulldogs are only losing two offensive linemen and a tight end on the offensive side of the football. Quarterback JT Daniels is returning for another season and so are the vast majority of his weapons.

The Forsyth, Georgia, native is a part of the winningest senior class in Georgia football history.

In 10 games played this season Herring recorded 20 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 passes defended and 22 quarterback pressures.

Herring thanked the Bulldogs football family in his post.

Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Malik Herring will be returning to Athens for his senior season. Herring was considering entering into the 2020 NFL Draft.

Herring recorded 26 tackles and a half sack on the season. He announced his decision to return via Twitter:

Herring will help lead an impressive UGA defense in 2020. Herring was a key part of a Georgia defensive front that didn’t allow a rushing touchdown to a running back all season. Don’t look too much into his stats. Georgia’s defensive front dominated, especially against the run and Herring was a key part of that. He joins Richard LeCounte as the latest Dawgs to announce their return to Athens.

UGA’s defensive line loses Tyler Clark and Michael Barnett, but is returning Malik Herring, Jordan Davis, Julian Rochester, Travon Walker, and possibly Devonte Wyatt. Georgia’s defense will be among the best in the country once again.
