Texans without both first rounders Derek Stingley, Kenyon Green in Thursday’s practice

With three days until the Browns vs. Texans takes place, Houston is still without three starters in practice.

While the Cleveland Browns are still without two key starters from Thursday’s practice, the Houston Texans are also missing key players. Not only was starting defensive tackle, Maliek Collins, missing Thursday but so were both of their first round rookies in cornerback Derek Stingley and offensive guard Kenyon Green.

We will get a better picture of who will be available for Sunday’s game tomorrow, but both teams are missing significant talents with just three days until the Browns and Texans take the field in Houston. Even if they are without a couple of starters, losing to the team that currently holds the number one pick in the 2023 NFL Draft would be nothing short of devastating.

Maliek Collins credits Texans defensive backs for second half sack production vs. Dolphins

Collins told reporters that the #Texans’ defensive backs played a key role in Houston’s sack production against the #Dolphins in Week 12

The Houston Texans had one of their worst first halves of the season against the Miami Dolphins in Week 12 in a game where it looked like they might not be able to make the final outcome close to respectable. Down 30 at halftime, the team would rally behind a resurgent pass rush in the third and fourth quarters to cut the deficit to 15 at the final whistle.

Defensive lineman Maliek Collins got in on the action in the backfield with two sacks and was asked after the game about any frustration he might have about having a standout performance in an ugly loss. He told reporters that the Texans’ secondary helped free up the team’s pass rushers with their sticky coverage.

“We didn’t really get to him [Tua Tagovailoa] the first quarter and a half, two quarters,” Collins explained. “In the second half, [we had] coverage adjustments. Credit the DBs, I mean I feel like – they held their own and allowed us to get to the quarterback and have a fighting chance.”

All in all, this matchup could’ve ended in a much worse outcome for Houston, especially given the deficit they faced at halftime when it legitimately looked like they’d lose by 50 or more points. The Dolphins showed mercy, though, and substituted quarterback Skylar Thompson in for Tua Tagovailoa after the Texans proved that their unrelenting pass rush was going to make life difficult for the starter.

It seems that in every loss Houston has taken this year at least one facet of their game has stood out as a positive. Early in the season, the sensational play of Dameon Pierce and the Texans’ rookie defensive backs were weekly reminders of the team’s potential.

Now, with losses piling up and without anything to play for except pride, Houston’s pass rush is out to show that the Texans won’t be pushovers, even if they don’t manage to win another game this year.

Texans vs. Dolphins Thanksgiving injury report: CB Derek Stingley would not have practiced

The Houston Texans released an estimation of their injury report for Thanksgiving, and CB Derek Stingley was projected to not practice.

The Houston Texans released their second injury report ahead of their Week 12 encounter with the Miami Dolphins Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time at Hard Rock Stadium.

The practice report was merely an estimation of participation as the Texans held a walkthrough on Thanksgiving.

Cornerback Derek Stingley (hamstring) was still projected to not practice. Long snapper Jon Weeks was listed as “not injury related – personal.”

There were no Texans players listed among the limited participants.

Houston defensive tackle Maliek Collins (chest) and linebacker Neville Hewitt (hamstring) were listed as full participants.

Maliek Collins describes the challenge of playing the Dolphins

Collins told reporters on Tuesday that the #Dolphins will be a tough opponent for the #Texans to match up against in Week 12

The Houston Texans are in for another tough matchup this week against the Miami Dolphins, who have been among the NFL’s best teams in 2022. Led by a high-octane offense featuring receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the Texans will need to put on a masterclass to even come close to a win against such a capable opponent.

Defensive lineman Maliek Collins was featured in Houston’s Tuesday press conference and shared his thoughts on the Week 12 matchup. Asked what he has seen from the Dolphins on film, Collins said that Miami brings an innovative edge to their gameplans, especially relative to the way quarterback Tua Tagovailoa utilizes his offensive weapons.

“That’s a dynamic team, a dynamic offense,” Collins said. “He’s obviously having a great season. To come back from that concussion earlier in the season and get right back in line and keep progressing. We’ve got a challenge.”

Reporters also asked about what he thinks had led to the Dolphins’ resurgence in 2022, to which Collins responded with confidence that one factor, in particular, has had a huge effect.

“Big plays for sure,” He explained. “Having an explosive offense. Their defense has been good for the past three or four years, just seeing them. Big plays really. You have to limit those big plays and keep everything in the bottle defensively.”

Though this is slated to be an uphill battle for Houston, the team will at least have the benefit of knowing what they’re up against and be able to play with absolute abandon against an opponent that has everything to lose. Miami is currently sitting atop the AFC East standings and could slip from its pedestal with a loss to the Texans.

For Houston fans, this matchup could be an intriguing one if the Texans can even manage to keep it close heading into the fourth quarter.

Maliek Collins says Texans are ‘always having conversations’ about improving team’s situation

Collins told reporters that the #Texans’ defense is constantly trying to improve

The Houston Texans’ skid to a 1-8-1 record has not been pretty. They are, without a doubt, the worst team in the NFL, and the product they give fans on the field is legitimately hard to watch. Houston is clearly tanking for draft position, and it’d be hard to blame them for that, but for anyone subjected to watching Texans football, the outlook for the rest of the 2022 season is bleak.

Their current standings don’t seem to be affecting the players themselves much, though. Despite drama after the trade deadline with star receiver Brandin Cooks, the team has mostly maintained a cheery disposition when talking to reporters about their situation. Defensive lineman Maliek Collins was among the Texans who were asked about how the team might be able to better themselves before the season draws to a merciful close and told the media that he and his teammates are hard at work finding solutions to win at least one more game.

“We’re always having conversations with each other about what more each of us can do,” Collins explained. “[We] hold each other accountable. But one thing for sure is taking the ball away. We’ve got to do that. You can’t not take the ball away and win. That’s not the game in the NFL. We’ve got to give the offense more opportunities to score. We’ve got to limit other teams’ drives. That’s just the game.”

Collins’ response to a tough question is indicative of his professionalism amid circumstances that are certainly less than ideal. It isn’t easy for a player to face the media and give thoughtful answers while their team is in utter disarray, but Collins managed to do just that.

Behind his leadership, the Texans’ defense just might be able to pick up the pieces and salvage whatever they can of Houston’s failed 2022 campaign.
