Former MSU basketball C Mady Sissoko commits to Cal

Mady Sissoko has his new home

After four years with the Michigan State program, Mady Sissoko will be transferring, using his fifth year of eligibility somewhere other than East Lansing.

Tom Izzo mentioned that Sissoko was leaving on good terms, similar to Foster Loyer, and the MSU head man was helping Sissoko find the best destination for him. Now, that destination has been found.

Sissoko has made the decision to commit to Cal, joining a massive transfer haul in Berkley that is highlighted by Rytis Petraitis and Andrej Stojakovic.

In his four years at MSU, Sissoko made 59 starts, while playing in 124 games, averaging 2.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

Could Mady Sissoko find his way to UNC in transfer portal?

Is Mady Sissoko a temporary solution at center for UNC next basketball season?

To achieve peak success, sometimes all an athlete needs is a change in scenery.

It could be the coaching, opportunity for a larger role, or even just a personal preference.

One of the biggest names to transfer in college basketball last offseason was Caleb Love, the former UNC guard who transferred to Arizona. Love’s decision paid off, as he enjoyed his best statistical year and was named Pac-12 Player of the Year.

Another college basketball athlete who could use a change in scenery is Mady Sissoko, the former Michigan State center, who entered his name in the transfer portal on Thursday.

Again – why am I talking about Sissoko, if he has very little with North Carolina?

With Armando Bacot exhausting his eligibility and Harrison Ingram possibly leaving for the NBA this offseason, the Tar Heels could be very thin in the post. UNC returns Jalen Washington, who saw his playing time dwindle as the season progressed, plus it welcomes James Brown as part of the eighth-ranked 2024 recruiting class.

Zayden High will also come back, but he also didn’t play a ton. Same goes for James Okonkwo.

Sissoko would bring some much-needed experience in the post, despite only averaging 15.2 minutes per game last season. Defense would be his calling card – a much-improved area for North Carolina last season, but still one that struggled in losses.

Oh – and did we mentioned Sissoko has one game of familiarity with UNC? Sissoko’s Spartans matched up with the Tar Heels in this year’s Round of 32, with Sissoko scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds during North Carolina’s 85-69 win.

Michigan State basketball C Mady Sissoko enters NCAA transfer portal

Mady Sissoko has entered the transfer portal

The first member of Michigan State’s basketball roster to announce that they are leaving the program is center Mady Sissoko. The grad student will use his addition COVID fifth year of eligibility at a different university.

The decision doesn’t come as a major surprise, as it has been speculated that Tom Izzo was searching the portal for a center, and Sissoko has largely underperformed the past two seasons.

Sissoko was a good Spartan, though, and did a ton of good off the court. Spartan fans will surely be rooting for the big man wherever his next stop ends up being.

3 Takeaways from Michigan State basketball’s win at Penn State

3 Takeaways from Michigan State’s win at Penn State

Michigan State went on the road and got a huge victory over Penn State, taking down the Nittany Lions, 80-72.

While a convincing performance, you can tell Tom Izzo wasn’t entirely satisfied, but all in all, a win is a win and the Spartans made it relatively stress free for Spartan Nation.

The win also posed as a huge Q2 victory for MSU, further bolstering their NCAA Tournament resume, something that needs to continue to improve for the Spartans to feel good on selection Sunday.

Check out three takeaways from MSU’s big win:

Mady Sissoko is just what Michigan State basketball needed

Mady Sissoko is just what MSU needed

There was a lot of questioning, doubting and disparaging Tom Izzo’s decision to not go after a starting center in the transfer portal. What many people forgot is Tom Izzo is the man who developed Xavier Tillman into an NBA player, Adreian Payne into a lottery pick and Draymond Green, just to name a few on the long list.

Izzo was confident in his ability to make sure Mady Sissoko was ready to take a huge leap into being a quality Big Ten starting center in year 3 of his time at Michigan State.

Mady Sissoko has done just that.

To open the year, Michigan State took on Gonzaga and Kentucky, two team’s that arguably possess the best two centers in the country in Drew Timme and Oscar Tshiebwe.

In those two contests, Sissoko has scored 30 points and grabbed 17 rebounds while playing strong defense against two of the nation’s best big men.

Sissoko has proved early in the year that he is ready to take his play to the next level, thus increasing Michigan State’s ceiling exponentially.

Tom Izzo was always to be trusted, and he proved it once again.
