Derrick Henry has criminally-low break tackle rating in Madden NFL 22

When you think of broken tackles, nobody comes to mind before Derrick Henry — unless you handle the ratings for Madden NFL 22.

When you think of broken tackles, no running back comes to mind before Tennessee Titans star rusher, Derrick Henry — well, at least for those of us who didn’t work on the “Madden NFL 22” video game.

Henry routinely runs defenders over on the football field thanks to his size and underrated speed, and we’ve seen him stiff-arm several players into another dimension during the course of his career.

The Alabama product has compiled more yards after contact since 2019 than all but two entire teams, according to Pro Football Focus. Also, in that same span, Henry has more yards after contact than all but one running back (Dalvin Cook) has total rushing yards, per PFF.

No player in the NFL is tougher to bring down than Henry. Period.

However, none of that matters to Madden NFL 22, as the video game gave Henry a break tackle rating of 95, ranking third among all running backs.

Yes, third.

Of course, breaking tackles is more than just about running through people and using a stiff-arm, but Henry can also make guys miss with nasty cuts near the line of scrimmage and in the open field.

Dalvin Cook and Nick Chubb are great running backs, no doubt, but neither should be ahead of Henry on this list. Furthermore, the former Heisman Trophy winner should easily be rated a 99 in the category.

If you don’t believe me, just ask former Buffalo Bills cornerback, Josh Norman:

Or former Detroit Lions cornerback, Alex Myres:

Or the countless Jacksonville Jaguars players who have fallen victim to Henry’s massive 6-foot-3, 247-pound frame over the years.

I mean, come on…

This is the second snub Henry has seen in Madden ratings thus far. He landed tied for No. 2 in overall rating among running backs with a 96, one point behind Carolina Panthers rusher, Christian McCaffrey.

Titans’ Derrick Henry tied for second-highest RB rating in Madden NFL 22

Derrick Henry isn’t the highest-rated RB in Madden NFL 22.

Fresh off a season in which he rushed for 2,000 yards and won his second straight rushing title, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry is tied for the second-highest rating among rushers in “Madden NFL 22”.

The popular video game franchise has slowly begun revealing the top-rated players at every position, including at wide receiver where Julio Jones was given a top-10 rating (95), but A.J. Brown was not.

Henry has landed an overall rating of 96, tying him with Cleveland Browns rusher, Nick Chubb. Carolina Panthers running back, Christian McCaffrey, was given a mark of 97, the highest among all backs in the game.

While we like McCaffrey as a player, we still think Henry should be No. 1. After all, no back in the NFL has dominated like him the past two seasons, and McCaffrey is coming off a campaign in which he played just three games.

We were hoping Henry would get  “The 99 Club” treatment this year, but that is not the case. So far, only Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams have graced that list.

Ratings can and will change, though. The game regularly updates them over the course of the season. Perhaps Henry can surpass McCaffrey at some point, and quite possibly make his way into the aforementioned club.

At least Henry has begun getting respect from NFL analysts, as the Alabama product has routinely been ranked at No. 1 in several running back rankings this offseason.

This year’s group of top prospects was no exception, and the good folks at EA Sports released an entertaining video of some of this year’s biggest names guessing their own ratings, and reacting to the actual ones.

NFL rookies, especially Mac Jones, had hilarious reactions to their ‘Madden NFL 22’ ratings

The announcement of Madden ratings can be a humbling experience for NFL rookies.

The announcement of Madden ratings can be a humbling experience for NFL rookies. The video game makers are rarely kind to the younger players, who are unproven and, in some cases, need time to carve out a role.

So while the top rookies were the best players in college football, they are rarely immediately among the best in the NFL. And their ratings reflect that. The rookies rarely see it coming when they’re predicting their ratings, so their reactions are typically pretty darn funny when they see their ratings for the first time.

Madden NFL 22 shared the ratings with some 2021 rookies, including Patriots quarterback Mac Jones and Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II. They had very funny reactions, with Jones feeling like he was getting trolled with his “break tackle” rating and Surtain disagreeing strongly with his “awareness” rating.

Here’s a look.

Too funny.

Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill falls short of 99 overall rating in ‘Madden NFL 22’

For the second consecutive season, #Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill has fallen just short of Madden’s 99 Club.

It’s that time of the year again.

EA Sports’ latest iteration of the Madden video game franchise is revealing player ratings ahead of the launch of the game. Throughout the week, “Madden NFL 22” player ratings will be revealed on ESPN’s social media channels. Today, they shared the top receiver ratings and Chiefs fans might be surprised with Tyreek Hill’s overall rating. He’s one of two receivers to come in just shy of a 99 overall rating. Both DeAndre Hopkins and Hill are ranked 98 overall.

You can check out the full top-10 list down below:

Hill reacted to his rating in a quick interview for ESPN.

“I should definitely be a 99,” Hill said. “I’m the best in the game, baby.”

Hill was also a 98 overall last season and also had a 99 overall speed rating in the game. This doesn’t seem to be much of an improvement over last season for Hill. He also seems to make a pretty good argument for having 100 overall speed in the game.

“It should be 100, though,” Hill said. “They gave Devin Hester 100 back in like ’04, I believe. So why can’t I have 100 speed too? I know I’m faster than Devin Hester, I know I am.”

Hill received some support from his quarterback and running mate, who both believe that he should have received a 99 overall rating too.

The rating adjustors for “Madden NFL 22” will be out on the sidelines at games this season. Hill will have a chance to prove himself on the field and make a case for that 99 overall rating, which can be adjusted during the course of the season.

“Madden NFL 22” has an official date of August 20, 2021, and is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S platforms.

Part of Chargers CB Asante Samuel Jr.’s Madden NFL 22 rating revealed

Asante Samuel Jr. correctly guessed the specific attribute.

EA Sports began unveiling some of the attribute ratings for ‘Madden NFL 22’ for a handful of rookies, including Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.

In a mini clip that was shared to the creator’s Twitter, Samuel Jr. was tasked with guessing his speed before it was revealed.

Samuel Jr. guessed 92 overall and he happened to be correct. In fact, he was the only one that got theirs right.

Samuel Jr. ran a 4.45 40-yard dash at his Pro Day, but he is field fast, showing that he can stay on the hip of any receiver that’s he is lined up across from and come up on any ball thrown in the snap of a finger.

The rest of Madden 22 Rookie Ratings are set to be released tomorrow, July 26, 2021.

Madden NFL 22 rating revealed for Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts

Madden NFL 22 rating revealed for Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts

As NFL training camps open up all around the league, players and fans of the sport are also excited about the looming release of ‘Madden NFL 22′.

During a recent reveal of Madden ratings for players who switched teams, Jalen Hurts landed behind Carson Wentz with a 71 overall rating. Wentz has a rating of 72 to start his first season in Indianapolis with Frank Reich and the Colts.

Hurts’ dual-threat ability as both a thrower and dangerous runner should make the Eagles start among the most popular game plays this summer, along with Patrick Mahomes and others.

Here’s Jacksonville’s home-field advantage in Madden 22

Here’s how the “DUUUVAL” home-field advantage mechanism will work in Madden NFL 22.

The newest iteration of EA Sports’ “Madden NFL” franchise is set to release next month, and one of the new features in the video game is a home-field advantage mechanism for each NFL team. By meeting specific criteria, players will get a bonus while using the home team.

For the Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field, that advantage is aptly named “DUUUVAL,” and it allows players to gain bonus momentum after scoring a touchdown.

Some of the home-field advantage systems make more sense than others. For example, Denver’s “Mile High” gives away team players less stamina and Seattle’s “The 12s” makes opponent play art squiggly.

Jacksonville isn’t exactly known for having the most intense gameday environment, but the fanbase definitely feeds off the momentum of the team (as was demonstrated by their 2017 campaign), so this bonus makes some sense.

Fans will have the opportunity to virtually play as Trevor Lawrence in a Jaguars uniform for the first time when the game releases on Aug. 16, two days after the Jags’ first preseason bout against the Cleveland Browns.

Madden NFL ’22 gives “Dawg Pound” a unique home field advantage

Madden NFL ’22 show the Dawg Pound very little respect with their new homefield advantage.

The Cleveland Browns are one of the most historical franchises in NFL history. Madden NFL is the NFL football video game and has been for some time.

Madden first came out as “John Madden Football” back in 1989 and transitioned to the “Madden NFL” name a few years later.

Since then, Madden has been the primary outlet for video game players to enjoy the NFL. It has developed over the years with innovations, some loved and some hated. There have been times that a new Madden release was disappointing due to the lack of innovation.

In the end, Madden is a cultural icon that has drawn in the casual football fan as well as the hardcore fan. The build-up to the release each year usually brings excitement with some trepidation. With internet-connected devices, gaming systems have some ability to fix problems following the release but the majority of the game is set upon release.

This year, Madden NFL ’22 has started to market its release with some of the new or updated features. One, in particular, has drawn a lot of intrigue from fans. This year, Madden NFL is giving each homefield a particular advantage. Some make a lot of sense while others show that the gaming franchise was grasping for straws.

For the Browns, the “Dawg Pound” will give the team a very particular advantage:

For an easier read, here is the Browns specific picture from the above tweet:

A very particular homefield advantage that will only be helpful when the opposing team gets into the redzone against the Browns, are passing the ball and only the receiver that is the hot route for that play. Added to that is that there is just “a chance to fail” and this advantage isn’t a particularly strong one.

You can click here to see the whole thread of homefield advantages.

For such a great fanbase, which has been loud despite the team’s constant struggles before the 2020 season, this advantage feels like a slap in the face. Washington, for example, has the advantage that their opponent has a more difficult time changing direction throughout the game. Green Bay has three different advantages.

While quality teams get the obvious benefit here, it is important to note that a homefield advantage is primarily based on the fanbase. The Cleveland fanbase is the greatest in the NFL and, perhaps, all of sports. Madden NFL ’22 does not give the Dawg Pound appropriate credit.
