Expect to see a lot more Buckeyes on Sunday’s!

Even though it is inevitable, it’s a bit bittersweet. With that said, Mel Kiper of ESPN (subscription required) has released his top 25 big board prospects along with his top 10 positional prospects for the upcoming 2023 [autotag]NFL Draft[/autotag]. Luke Wypler on 2022 Rimington Trophy preseason watch list

Wypler will look to be the fourth Ohio State player to win the Rimington Trophy. #GoBucks

We continue our journey through the various college football preseason watch lists with looks at Ohio State players noted. The latest to come out is the 2022 preseason Rimington Trophy watch list, handed out annually to the best collegiate center in the game.

If you’ve followed the Rimington in recent years, you no doubt know that Ohio State has had a few guys not only on the shortlist but that have taken home the award. LeCharles Bentley won it in 2001 (in just the second edition), then Pat Elflein and Billy Price went back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.

Now there is another Buckeye to look out for with the inclusion of Luke Wypler on this year’s list that has a total of 40 names.

This year, the Rimington Trophy worked with Pro Football Focus to pare down the list to what you see in the preseason, but that doesn’t mean more players can’t be added later.

The Rimington will be handed out on January 14 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Ohio State offensive lineman Luke Wypler latest to lose his black stripe

Ohio State freshman offensive lineman Luke Wypler is the latest to “officially” become a Buckeye when he lost his black stripe Wednesday.

It’s been a black-stripe removal parade lately for the Ohio State football team. After two more newcomers shed their black stripes on Tuesday, we had another on Wednesday when freshman offensive lineman Luke Wypler joined the fray.

At 6-foot, 2-inches, and 285-pounds, Wypler was rated as the No. 2 center in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He hails from St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey.

As all of the honorees do when they have their black stripe removed, Wypler had a few words for his teammates.

“Hey, I just want to say a big thanks to coach Mick (Marotti) and his staff, (athletic trainer) Shaun (Barnhouse) and his staff, and (nutritionist) Kayla (Olson),” said Wypler. “Go Bucks!”

You can watch the brief ceremony below courtesy of the Ohio State Football Twitter account.

There’s now only about a week and a half until Ohio State kicks off the season against Nebraska, and we’ll have to see when the rest of the newcomers have their stripes removed. Stay tuned …
