Former Tennessee Titans tight end Luke Stocker has taken a role on the team’s coaching staff for the 2023 season.

Per head coach Mike Vrabel, who was recently a guest on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast, Stocker, who last played an NFL snap in 2021, is joining the coaching staff (H/T Mike Herndon of PaulKuharsky.com).

Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky reports that Stocker will be a quality control coach while also working with tight ends coach, Tony Dews.

Stocker spent 11 seasons in the NFL and appeared in 19 games for the Titans during the 2017 and 2018 campaigns. He also played in two playoff games in the former year but didn’t record a stat. Stocker finished his Titans career with 16 catches for 177 yards and two scores.

In all, Stocker posted 85 catches for 705 yards and five touchdowns during his career, which also saw stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who drafted him in 2011, Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings.

Updated list of Vikings free agents still left unsigned

Here’s a list of Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned.

The Minnesota Vikings are preparing for their first padded practice in their second week of training camp, while former players for the team are still looking for a job.

There are multiple key veteran players, including four-time Pro Bowler Anthony Barr, waiting around for the right offer from another team. Granted, it was recently reported that the Dallas Cowboys should be one of the teams to watch out for as a potential suitor for Barr.

And perhaps that’ll be the case for some of the other names on this list with interest eventually coming from other teams.

As we get deeper into training camp and eventually the preseason, more opportunities will arise with players getting injured or even cut from teams. That could open the door for players on this list to get back on the field. But until that happens, the waiting game will continue.

Former Vikings offensive tackle Rashod Hill was recently picked up by the Washington Commanders. So opportunity can clearly come knocking at any moment.

Here’s the updated list of Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned.

Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned

Heading into the month of July, these are the Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned.

Training camp is right around the corner, and there are still impactful Minnesota Vikings free agents that have yet to be picked up by a team.

There have been some updates since we last checked in a month ago, most notably with wide receiver Chad Beebe finding a home with the Houston Texans, and Dede Westbrook receiving a contract offer to return to Minnesota.

Beebe fell through the cracks when he was still with the Vikings due to the rapidly growing talent at the receiver position. The arrival of players like K.J. Osborn and Ihmir Smith-Marsette pretty much ensured that he’d never see the field.

He’s hopeful that’ll change as a veteran for a Texans team seeking new direction.

Meanwhile, Westbrook still remains a free agent, despite receiving a contract offer from the Vikings after a spring workout. However, he turned down that offer, and the team signed Albert Wilson to a one-year deal instead.

Keep in mind, more opportunities will obviously open up when teams get into camp, and rosters are impacted by performance and injuries. Here’s the list of Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned in July.

List of remaining unsigned Vikings free agents

There are some surprising names on this list

With OTAs wrapping up and veteran mandatory minicamp right around the corner, there are still some noteworthy names on the list of Minnesota Vikings free agents that remain unsigned.

The biggest name on that list is obviously former four-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro outside linebacker Anthony Barr.

After spending eight seasons with the Vikings, Barr’s contract was allowed to expire in the offseason ahead of the regime shift in Minnesota.

Not only did the team replace him with Za’Darius Smith, but they also gave away the No. 55 jersey he wore during his time with the franchise.

It’s a bit shocking that he’s still one of the players on this list considering he’s more than capable of helping a team in need at the linebacker position. The same could be said about other names on this list as well, assuming they end up in the right situation.

Here are the Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned to this point.

Vikings 2022 offseason preview: Where does Minnesota stand at TE?

An improved Irv Smith Jr. could take the offense to new heights

The Minnesota Vikings never got to show everything under the hood offensively with Irv Smith Jr. going down with a torn meniscus before the season even started. So there’s some genuine excitement to see what the tight end position looks like in a Kevin O’Connell-coached offense.

But things aren’t quite as certain with this skilled group as they are at running back and receiver. A move of some sort is likely coming considering they have multiple players heading into free agency, along with the fact that Smith is coming off a season-ending injury.

The opportunities at tight end should be plenty with the bevy of offensive skilled weapons already on the field for the Vikings.

Here are where things stand at the position right now.

Vikings elevate TE Luke Stocker to the active roster for Week 6

The Vikings have elevated TE Luke Stocker from the practice squad to the active roster for the Panthers game.

Oh, to go back to the offseason, when the Vikings’ tight end unit looked strong heading into 2021.

Minnesota had Irv Smith Jr. and Tyler Conklin as the primary tight end options. Then, Smith went down with what is likely a season-ending injury. Conklin became the main tight end option. Also, the team traded for TE Chris Herndon. Herndon, however, hasn’t lived up to the hype.

The Vikings’ tight end corps faces another setback this week. They lost TE Ben Ellefson to injury for the game against the Panthers. In light of that, Minnesota elevated TE Luke Stocker to the active roster for game day.

The Vikings signed Stocker to the practice squad this week. He’s a veteran who is similar to Ellefson — both players are better at blocking than receiving.

Minnesota saw a possible hole on its roster and has patched it up with a veteran player for Sunday. Overall, the team made a good move.

Vikings make an addition to the practice squad

The Vikings signed TE Luke Stocker to their practice squad.

Minnesota made a panic trade before the offseason to shore up depth at tight end.

The Vikings gave up a fourth-round pick in exchange for Herndon and a sixth-rounder. Herndon has played in every game so far, but he has not played very well.

The Minnesota tight end has no receptions and no yards on two targets. He also had two penalties against the Lions last game. Tyler Conklin has been, by far, the better tight end.

Whether it’s because of Herndon’s play or not, Minnesota is making some interesting moves with its practice squad this week. First, the Vikings protected TE Brandon Dillon. Then, they signed TE Luke Stocker.

Stocker most recently saw game time with the Falcons in 2020, when he made 13 starts and played in all 16 games. He tallied 63 yards receiving that season. In the offseason of 2021, Stocker signed with the Titans, marking his second stint with Tennessee in his NFL career. The Titans released him before the 2021 season.

Teams use Stocker primarily as a blocker. He’s nothing more than depth for now, but he could be looking at playing time if tight ends outside of Conklin can’t step up.

In addition to signing Stocker, Minnesota released T Zack Bailey from the practice squad.

Titans take Bud Dupree off COVID-19 list, sign Luke Stocker among flurry of moves

Luke Stocker is making his return to Nashville.

The Tennessee Titans announced a flurry of roster moves on Saturday morning, one of which includes the removal of outside linebacker Bud Dupree from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

It was a short stint on the list for Dupree, who was placed on there on Thursday. The outside linebacker will remain on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, where he was placed at the start of training camp.

Another notable move was the signing of tight end Luke Stocker, who previously played with Tennessee back in 2017 and 2018.

Stocker appeared in 19 games (13 starts) over two seasons in Nashville, recording 16 receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns. He’ll join in on the depth competition at the position in training camp.

But wait, there’s more: the Titans also waived defensive back Quenton Meeks and placed offensive lineman Brandon Kemp on Injured Reserve.

The Titans will hit the field for their fourth day of training camp practice on Saturday, with the session set to start at 9:30 a.m. CT.

Falcons release tight end Khari Lee with injury settlement

The Falcons signed free-agent tight end Khari Lee in the offseason, but announced on Thursday that they have released the 28-year-old with an injury settlement.

The Falcons signed free-agent tight end Khari Lee in the offseason, but announced on Thursday that they have released the 28-year-old with an injury settlement.

Lee was excelling as a pass-catching specialist at Falcons training camp and was someone many thought would make the final 53-man roster.

He’s played four NFL seasons with the Bears, Lions and Bills, but has just two career catches for 12 yards. Lee played well during last year’s stint in the XFL.

The team still has tight ends Luke Stocker, Jaeden Graham and Jared Pinkney competing to back up starter Hayden Hurst with camp winding down.

Falcons sign veteran TE Luke Stocker, OL Scottie Dill

The Falcons announced on Friday that they signed veteran tight end Luke Stocker along with undrafted free agent OL Scottie Dill.

The Falcons announced on Friday that they signed veteran tight end Luke Stocker along with undrafted free agent OL Scottie Dill.

Over his nine-year NFL career, Stocker, 32, has 76 catches for 630 yards and five touchdowns.

He had a quiet year in Atlanta last season, catching eight passes for 53 receiving yards. But he’s a better blocker than Hayden Hurst, so he has some value in the running game.

As for Dill, the 6-foot-7, 300-pound rookie offensive lineman played at Memphis and should compete for a swing tackle spot and potentially land on the team’s practice squad.

Ultimately, the Falcons had very little veteran depth at tight end outside of Hurst. Stocker gives them exactly what they were looking for in someone who knows the system and can step in if needed.
