LSU baseball drops midweek matchup in the Big Easy

The Tigers’ four-game winning streak came to an end against New Orleans on Tuesday night.

After a perfect 4-0 showing last week, the Tigers crashed back down to Earth in a midweek matchup on the road against New Orleans on Tuesday night.

LSU lost to the Privateers 9-4 to end the winning streak, and now it will have to hope for better luck against a ranked opponent this weekend when the Georgia Bulldogs come to town.

[autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] got the start on the mound in a short outing as he only went 1.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks. LSU started off hot as it scored the first two runs of the game thanks to a throwing error by New Orleans and a [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] RBI double to make it 2-0 LSU headed to the bottom of the second inning.

The Privateers came out swinging in the bottom of the second as they scored four runs on Floyd. Those came on a wild pitch, an RBI single, a fielder’s choice and a throwing error. In the top of the third inning, [autotag]Luke Leto[/autotag] grounded out but scored [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] in the process to cut the lead to 4-3.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, New Orleans blew the game wide open as they scored four more runs. One run scored on an RBI single and later three runs scored on a three-RBI triple with a full count and two outs.

Headed to the top of the seventh, LSU had dug itself into an 8-3 hole. The question was, could it somehow dig its way out of it?

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Privateers plated another run on an RBI single to make it 9-3 headed to the ninth inning. In the top of the ninth inning, Pearson hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 9-4, but that was the only run LSU would get as it lost the game and its winning streak came to an end at four games.

With the loss, LSU drops to 27-13 (10-8 SEC) on the year. The Tigers start a three-game series with the Bulldogs on Friday night at Alex Box Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.

LSU’s bats go ice cold in Game 2 loss at Arkansas to drop series

The Tigers were shut out on Friday as they dropped the series against the Razorbacks.

A different day but the same result for LSU baseball. The Tigers dropped Game 2 against Arkansas on Friday night by a score of 4-0, losing the series in Fayetteville.

After a hard-fought game on Thursday night where LSU came up one run short of Arkansas, [autotag]Blake Money[/autotag] took the mound as the Tigers tried to even the series.

On Thursday, LSU was held hitless through five innings before it finally erupted for three runs on four hits in the sixth inning to take the lead. The Tigers had no such luck today, as their bats stayed as cold as Antarctica in this game.

Arkansas scored first once again as it hit a pair of home runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead heading to the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Arkansas hit another home run to increase their lead to 4-0.

Money was relieved of his pitching duty after pitching 6.2 innings allowing seven hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout. [autotag]Luke Leto[/autotag] came into the game as a pinch-hitter for [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] and he tallied LSU’s third hit of the game in the top of the eighth inning.

[autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] followed that with a walk and it seemed like LSU may be in business with runners on first and second with zero outs, but [autotag]Josh Stevenson[/autotag] flew out and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] popped out to give LSU two quick outs as [autotag]Jacob Berry[/autotag] stepped into the box. Berry walked and the bases were loaded for Cade Doughty.

Doughty flew out to right field, and the Tigers’ threat came to an end. That was the closest LSU would come to scoring as they were retired 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth.

LSU will look to avoid getting swept by the Razorbacks in Game 3 on Sunday. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. The starting pitcher for the Tigers is yet to be announced.
