LSU at Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 83, LSU 69

Moneyline

PASS.

The moneyline play is far too risky to play on Alabama (-1200).

Against the spread

PASS.

Although this game certainly has the potential to be a big blowout, but despite that Alabama is playing on its home court where it is 8-0 against an LSU team that is 0-2 on the road, 14.5 points are too many to comfortably make a suggestion.

The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these teams while the favorite is 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 meetings.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 146.5 (-105).

Although Alabama loves to push the pace of games, ranking in the top 15 in points per game, its defense ranks in the top 15 in opponent field goal percentage and opponent 3-point percentage while LSU’s offense ranks lower than 200th for points per game.

The Under has hit 4 times in LSU’s last 6 games following an ATS loss and 4 times in its last 5 games against a team with a winning record.

LSU at Alabama odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s LSU at Alabama odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 16 LSU Tigers (15-2, 3-2 SEC) visit the Alabama Crimson Tide (11-6, 2-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Below, we look at the LSU vs. Alabama odds and lines and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

LSU is coming off a Saturday home loss to Arkansas.  The Tigers have had some shooting woes of late; that and some iffy rebounding caught up with them in the 65-58 setback against the Razorbacks. Louisiana State has shot just 40.9% over its last five games.

Alabama has faltered since starting the season 8-1. UA is just 3-5 — and yielding 77.4 points per game — in eight games since. Analytics peg the Crimson Tide as being one of the top offenses in the SEC and also one of the league’s flimsiest defensive teams. Alabama ranks near the bottom of the circuit in defensive rebounding and opponents’ free-throw rate.

LSU at Alabama odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 77, LSU 72

Money line

In recent losses, Alabama hasn’t been that far off playing as a very good version of itself. And now the Tide is at home in a desperation spot.

LSU may not have the muscle needed inside to leverage what should be an advantage in the paint. And the Tigers may not have G Xavier Pinson feeding the ball down low. The senior is LSU’s leading assist man, and he’s questionable with a knee injury.

On defense, the Tigers yield a lot of perimeter looks: UA figures to get its fair share of triples in this one.

BACK ALABAMA (-175), perhaps as a partial-unit insurance play alongside an ATS wager.

Against the spread

The last 27 times these schools have gotten together, the favorite has gone 20-6-1 against the number.

The youthful Tigers are in a tough stretch in their schedule, and this one could get away — as likely into three-score territory as one. BACK ALABAMA -3.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Both teams play at a quick pace, and the Over is 5-1-2 across the last eight series meetings.

But LSU’s pace has slowed of late, and this one might be worth a line watch … and an Under 151.5 if that total becomes available. PASS

LSU at Alabama odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s LSU Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The LSU Tigers (4-4, 2-3 SEC) and No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1, 4-1) meet Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the LSU vs. Alabama odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings according to the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

The Tigers opened the season 3-1 SU/2-2 ATS, but LSU has won just once in the past four outings while going 1-3 ATS. Defense has been an issue as the SEC schedule has gotten underway, allowing 32.8 PPG in five conference outings.

The Crimson Tide have appeared furious since losing at Texas A&M Oct. 9, outscoring Mississippi State and Tennessee by a combined 101-33 for two wins and covers.

LSU at Alabama odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 48, LSU 24

Money line

Alabama (-10000) will cost you 100 times your potential return, or just a $1 profit for every $100 risked. While the Crimson Tide aren’t going to lose, that’s a ridiculous long-term betting strategy.

AVOID.

Against the spread

LSU +28.5 (-107) has the tools to score plenty of points, but Alabama will win comfortably. While the Tigers are just 2-6 ATS in the previous eight meetings, the road team has connected against the number in each of the past five in this series.

Over/Under

OVER 66.5 (-115) is the play here. LSU has rolled up 30.5 PPG this season, and it is coughing up 28.8 PPG. Alabama’s offensive prowess is well documented, and it has posted 45.9 PPG to rank second in the nation. The Tide can be had defensively, however, yielding 219.0 passing yards per game and 20.6 PPG, both rather marginal numbers.

This one should have a final in the 70’s.

The LSU Tigers (11-5 overall, 6-3 SEC) visit the Alabama Crimson Tide (14-4, 9-0) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET tussle at Coleman Coliseum, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Below, we analyze the LSU-Alabama college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Alabama is No. 7 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

  • Over/Under: 163.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

LSU at Alabama: Three things to know

  1. LSU (82.9 points per game) and Alabama (79.9 PPG) rank second and third, respectively, in SEC scoring. Beginning with a 105-75 loss to the Crimson Tide Jan. 19, the Tigers have shot just 41.2% from the floor in their last four games while averaging nearly 10 fewer points than their season average. LSU has gone 1-3 in that stretch.
  2. Alabama lost a 66-61 in a non-conference game at Oklahoma Saturday. The loss snapped a 10-game win streak for the Tide. UA was a minus-4 in turnover margin after being on the plus side of the ledger in six of its previous seven games. Alabama has forced an impressive 15 turnovers per game for the season.
  3. Both sides have a key injury. LSU is without F Darius Days (12.1 points, 7.9 rebounds per game). Alabama is without F Jordan Bruner (7.8, 5.3). The 6-foot-10 Bruner has also logged 1.2 blocks per game and is a force in Alabama’s interior defensive scheme.

LSU at Alabama: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Alabama 85, LSU 73

Money line (ML)

Look for Alabama to be on the warpath after its loss to Oklahoma. The factor most likely to be overlooked in the Tide’s advantage here is their defense. The turnover transition game is a monster plus for ‘Bama and a big minus for LSU.

Still, the price here offers no value: PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The favorite is 19-6-1 over the last 26 games in this ancient SEC series and the favorite for this one is a solid play to cover by double digits. BACK THE CRIMSON TIDE -8.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Various analytic measures peg both LSU and Alabama as two of the higher-tempo teams in NCAA-I. ‘Bama, in fact, figures as a top-20 unit in possessions per game.

The lofty possession numbers on both sides were logged in non-conference play. Those possession numbers, along with the Tide’s 72.8% effective field-goal rate in the 105-75 score Jan. 19, are overbaked into tonight’s number. BACK THE UNDER 163.5 (-110).
