Will Campbell and Mekhi Wingo ranked among top newcomers in 2022

LSU has a lot of new faces in 2022. These two should be some of the best.

A new season means new faces.

There will be plenty of those for LSU in 2022 after the roster turnover brought on by the coaching change.

ESPN ranked the top 50 newcomers in college football, whether they be transfers or freshmen.

A couple of Tigers appeared on the list.

OT Will Campbell ranked 16th. ESPN has been high on Campbell since he was a recruit, ranking him 14th in the ESPN 300.

“It’s rare to see a true freshman come in and start at left tackle for an SEC program, but Campbell is a 6-foot-6, 325-pound lineman who has the talent and strength to play right away.”

DL Mekhi Wingo came in a few spots later at 20. ESPN wrote that Wingo was one of the more coveted defensive linemen in the portal and should be part of an excellent rotation for LSU.

It’s promising to see a pair of guys on this list that will be in the trenches for LSU. Having a strong OL and DL are critical to success in the SEC and Campbell and Wingo should be central pieces for the next two to three years.

When it came to guys leaving LSU, Eli Ricks ranked fifth. Ricks was a big loss for the Tigers only made worse by the fact that he went to Alabama.

NFL Network gives update on Odell Beckham’s status

NFL Network provides an update on Odell Beckham’s free agency

As the NFL season grows closer, former LSU wideout [autotag]Odell Beckham Jr[/autotag] is still without a home.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network recently had an update on Beckham’s status.

Rapoport pointed out how Beckham is still recovering from an ACL and could be exercising patience. Beckham might not be able to play early in the year anyway, so why not take more time to recover?

It doesn’t seem like Beckham is signing anytime soon. This would give Beckham a chance to join a contender down the stretch in good health.

The Rams have maintained interest, but there hasn’t been much smoke around other teams.

Teams like the Cowboys, Titans, or Colts could use his services. All three of those teams expect to contend but need some more depth at wide receiver.

In 14 games last year, Beckham caught 44 passes for 537 yards. He really shined in the postseason, where he had 288 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

That included a 113-yard performance in the NFC Championship game. In the Super Bowl, he put the Rams up 7-0 with a first-quarter touchdown.

In his eight NFL seasons, Beckham has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on five occasions and that total could be even higher if it weren’t for injuries.

Beckham is just 29 and could be an important part of an offense this year.

LSU announces creation of new subscription-based content streaming service

The Tigers are dipping their toes into the streaming game.

Beginning on Aug. 1, Tigers fans will have a new way to engage with their favorite team.

LSU announced in a press release on Monday the creation of LSU GOLD, a subscription-based streaming service that will feature behind-the-scenes footage, podcasts, interviews and an all-access documentary focused on coach Brian Kelly’s first season in Baton Rouge.

Per the release, the service will cost $8.99 per month and will be available on mobile and desktop as well as on streaming platforms like Roku, Apple TV, Android TV and Amazon Fire TV. It will be produced by South Stadium Productions, the content division of the Tigers’ athletic department.

“Through the launch of our subscription content network, LSU GOLD, and the convergence of our creative talents in South Stadium Productions, LSU Athletics is taking the next step to ensure we continue to lead the nation in innovative, engaging storytelling,” athletics director [autotag]Scott Woodward[/autotag] said in the release. “We are excited to offer our fans a subscription service to connect them closer to the teams they love, and we are confident the team we are assembling and the infrastructure we are building will help us further engage the most passionate fans in the country and take the already-iconic LSU brand to new heights.”

Streaming will likely only continue to play a bigger role in the sports media ecosystem in the coming years, and LSU is getting ahead of the curve by creating its own proprietary service now.
