Steelers are now first place in the AFC North following Ravens’ loss

The Browns pulled off an unbelievable win by beating the 5-2 Ravens, 29-24. The Steelers are now 1st in the AFC North following the upset.

Jaws have dropped in Pittsburgh. The Cleveland Browns have done the unthinkable, pulling off an upset victory against the Baltimore Ravens. While Steelers fans wish both rivals could have lost on Sunday, Pittsburgh now holds a half-game lead over the Ravens in the divisional race.

The Cleveland Browns entered the contest with an abysmal 1-6 record and were tasked with the impossible—stopping the 5-2 Ravens and their dynamic offense in Week 8. Browns’ starting QB Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending torn Achilles, leaving backup QB Jameis Winston to take over the signal-calling duties.

Winston stepped up in a big way for his team, and in some ways for the Black and Gold faithful, as he threw a game-deciding TD pass with 59 seconds remaining to seal the win against the Ravens.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are poised to improve their record to 6-2 against the New York Giants, furthering their lead in the AFC North divisional race, on Monday Night Football, October 28th at 8:15 PM EST.

Two of Steelers’ AFC North rivals tear the house down in Week 5

The Bengals and Ravens incredible AFC North rivalry game is finally over, with Baltimore pulling off the 41-38 victory on OT.

Fear and doubt were cast into the hearts of Pittsburgh fans after a humbling defeat was handed to the Steelers by the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3.

As if there weren’t already enough reasons for concern, their AFC North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals, closed out their highly competitive game in overtime with a field goal off the right foot of Baltimore’s kicker Justin Tucker.

The Ravens move to 4-2 on the season, just one game away from tying the Steelers for the best record in the division—if Pittsburgh can win their Week 5 matchup that is.

The Cincinnati Bengals drop to an awful record of 1 win and 4 losses. However, Pittsburgh shouldn’t take them lightly, as QB Joe Burrow not only threw for almost 400 yards and 5 TDs in the loss, but Cincinnati has also been within one score of winning each of their 4 losses.

While the Bengals and Ravens continue to give Pittsburgh a run for their money, one thing in the AFC North remains the same: “the Browns is the Browns“.

Steelers Week 4 recap: What happened to the defense?

Usually a strong point for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the defense struggled throughout the contest, resulting in Pittsburgh’s first loss.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense was the best in the league. They were number one in total scoring defense, total yardage, and second in rushing defense. However, this week against Indianapolis was a different story.

The Colts put up more points in the first quarter than any of the previous Steelers’ three opponents had. Pittsburgh was allowing an average of approximately 70 rushing yards per game, and Indianapolis broke that number with only two drives.

An injury to Alex Highsmith, and defensive line struggles in Week 3 could be responsible for the setback. However, it wasn’t just the edge rushers and defensive line, the secondary allowed Pittman to have 100 receiving yards by the end of the first half, and 113 yards total in the contest.  The offense was able to rebound towards the end of the game, the defense, however, gave up another 10 points in the second half.

Pittsburgh has a tough stretch of games coming up. However, the Steelers appear to have a small glimmer of hope for their Week 5 matchup, where their opponent, the Dallas Cowboys, may be without star player Micah Parsons.

Browns sign controversial ex-Chiefs WR after embarrassing Week 1 loss to Cowboys

The Cleveland #Browns signed former Kansas City #Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney after their brutal loss to the Dallas #Cowboys in Week 1.

The Cleveland Browns signed former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney on Monday after their embarrassing 33-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.

Toney, a fourth-year player who was a member of Kansas City’s last two Super Bowl rosters, is a dynamic but wildly inconsistent talent who will be a boom-or-bust acquisition for the lowly Browns.

Known for his inexplicable struggles with drops last season, Toney is set to get a fresh start on Cleveland’s practice squad, where he will fight for a chance to be elevated to the Browns’ active roster.

Cleveland’s offense was in total disarray against Dallas, and Toney’s signing with the Browns is interesting, given his erratic performance with the Chiefs.

During his five starts over two regular seasons in Kansas City, Toney made 41 catches for 340 yards and scored three touchdowns.

News of his acquisition by the Browns was far from the most concerning storyline coming out of Cleveland on Monday, and for now, it seems like the team is in an absolute free-fall.

Minnesota set off fireworks after missing game-winning field goal vs. North Carolina

In case you missed it last night, Minnesota set off fireworks after losing to North Carolina:

Friday is not a good day to be a Minnesota fan.

The Gophers dropped their 2024 season opener to North Carolina, 19-17, on Thursday night. They did so in heartbreaking fashion, missing a 47-yard game-winning field goal attempt as time expired.

The loss is a disastrous start to a pivotal year for the P.J. Fleck era at Minnesota. The team went 5-7 during the 2023 regular season and showed signs of steep regression. The loss to North Carolina continues that trend, especially given the team’s nonexistent offense.

Transfer quarterback Max Brosmer was supposed to be a significant upgrade over 2023 starter Athan Kaliakmanis. His Gopher debut against the Tar Heels included a pedestrian 13 of 21 passing for 166 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. The Minnesota offense managed 244 total yards in the loss.

To add insult to injury, somebody at Huntington Bank Stadium thought the field goal was good. So they shot of celebratory fireworks:

This captures the current state of Fleck era at Minnesota. A lot of flashy, bright lights all around the stadium, yet another loss on the field.

Minnesota has games upcoming against No. 25 Iowa, No. 9 Michigan, No. 23 USC, Maryland, Rutgers, No. 8 Penn State and Wisconsin. It looks like Gopher fans are in for a long season.

Chiefs snap counts: Which players saw the most action vs. Bears?

Take a look at which players saw the most action in the #Chiefs’ preseason loss to the #Bears on Thursday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs rested their starters against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night, giving many lesser-known players a chance to fight for a spot on their 53-man roster.

Though the efforts of Kansas City’s second, third, and fourth-stringers were admirable in the Chiefs’ 34-21 loss to Chicago, head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach will have to part with many of the players who saw action against the Bears.

Take a look at the snap counts from Kansas City’s latest defeat, which were posted by Kansas City Chiefs on SI deputy editor Jordan Foote on Twitter after the game:

While it is hard to draw conclusions from raw data in the preseason, Kansas City’s coaching staff is sure to have seen enough to know which players earned their spot on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster.

Stay tuned to see how Reid and Veach decide to construct Kansas City’s roster over the next few days.

Alabama basketball drops first SEC game of the year against Tennessee

Tennessee basketball beats Alabama 91-71 to hand the Tide their first SEC loss of the season

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide dropped their first game in SEC play today as it was all about No. 6 Tennessee. The Vols ran out to an early ten-point lead and never looked back on the way to a 91-71 victory.

The Crimson Tide just couldn’t get out of their way all afternoon with 22 total turnovers. Tennessee had just seven. The Tide shot fine from the field (44.6%), but it was another putrid day from behind the arc as Alabama finished 4/21 as a team. Outside of [autotag]Mark Sears[/autotag], it was a disappointing team effort as he was the only Alabama player to crack double digits – he went for 22. Alabama needs to start getting a little bit more out of Grant Nelson if they hope to repeat as conference champs.

The Tide needs to regroup quickly with No. 13 Auburn coming to town on Wednesday. The Tigers are currently 15-2 and host No. 22 Ole Miss later on this evening.

Twitter reacts to Chiefs’ frustrating Week 16 loss to Raiders

Fans made their feelings about the #Chiefs’ Week 16 loss to the #Raiders known on Twitter.

Nothing went right for the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense in Week 16. Patrick Mahomes looked like a shell of himself, Travis Kelce’s frustrations boiled over, and the entire unit looked out of sorts through all four quarters.

Somehow, a Las Vegas Raiders squad led by rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell managed to make the reigning Super Bowl champions with the NFL’s reigning MVP under center look silly on their own turf.

Losses are part of life in professional sports, but such a brutal defeat on Christmas day at Arrowhead Stadium seems to be an indictment of Kansas City’s ability to win important games against opponents that are, at least on paper, beatable.

Chiefs fans will have to wait another week to see the team clinch its playoff berth, and with just two games remaining on its 2023 schedule, Kansas City can no longer afford to play the brand of football they’ve grown accustomed to this season.

Social media was buzzing after the Chiefs’ brutal loss to Las Vegas, and users weren’t afraid to let their thoughts on the sad state of affairs in Kansas City be known.

Check out some of the top reactions to the game from Twitter:

Twitter reacts to Chiefs’ brutal loss to Bills in Week 14

Users on Twitter had some feelings about the #Chiefs’ brutal loss to the #Bills in Week 14.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Buffalo Bills in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday after a late touchdown was nullified by a rarely-called offensive offside penalty on wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

While the controversial call by the referees was a huge part of Chiefs Kingdom’s angst after the game, Kansas City’s performance against Buffalo was frustrating to watch in its entirety. Without Isiah Pacheco in the backfield, the Chiefs offense looked listless, and an early interception thrown by Patrick Mahomes gave the Bills momentum as early as the first quarter.

Fans posted about Kansas City’s disconcerting showing on social media after the game and made their feelings about the loss clear. Some used humor to cope with the Chiefs’ defeat, while others were a bit more direct with their anger about Kansas City’s latest collapse.

Check out some of Twitter’s best reactions to the brutal Week 14 game against Buffalo below:

Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco notched third career 100-yard game vs. Packers

#Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco put togetherthe third 100-yard game of his career against the Packers in Week 13.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco notched the third 100-yard game of his young career against the Green Bay Packers in Week 13 on Sunday Night Football. The second-year running back was one of Kansas City’s most productive contributors on offense but was ejected late in the game when tempers flared in the fourth quarter.

Though his performance was overshadowed by the dysfunction that has plagued the Chiefs in recent weeks, Pacheco’s outstanding effort was a major reason that Kansas City had a chance to win late in the game.

While it wasn’t enough to push the Chiefs over the edge, Pacheco’s showing should be enough to warrant more involvement in Andy Reid’s offense through the end of the season if the veteran head coach elects to lean on what works instead of attempting to force the ball downfield in the passing game.

Expect to see a steady dose of the Rutgers product in Kansas City’s Week 14 game against the Buffalo Bills.
