Grading Texas’ 2023 signing class by position

Texas’ 2023 class is complete all around.

Steve Sarkisian and his Texas staff have put together an elite recruiting class in back-to-back seasons.

The Longhorns signed 23 prospects during the early signing period, currently ranking No. 3 in the country for the 2023 cycle. Texas finished with the No. 5 ranked class last year.

Texas landed four five-star players for the first time since 2010. The most significant slash being the No. 1 overall prospect Arch Manning. Manning’s late Summer commitment sparked a strong wave of recruiting momentum, building the foundation of the class.

A solid finish for the class included to big-time recruiting wins over rival programs. Texas landed five-star linebacker Anthony Hill over Texas A&M and four-star EDGE Tausili Akana over the final week.

Texas is building a strong foundation on the recruiting trail, setting up a bright future in Austin.

Here is a grade for each position group in Texas’s 2022 recruiting class. It does not include players added from the transfer portal.

Where Texas and Oklahoma’s recruiting classes would rank in the SEC

Texas and Oklahoma are stacking talent for the SEC.

College football recruiting is approaching its biggest week of the year with the early signing period on deck. The majority of the top prospects in the class of 2023 will sign their letters of intent starting on Dec. 21.

Texas and Oklahoma sit in great spots with their respective recruiting classes.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff have put together an exciting class led by five-stars Arch Manning, Johntay Cook and Cedric Baxter. The Longhorns class is complete on both sides of the ball and likely finishes inside the top five nationally.

Oklahoma’s recruiting is going steady after a disappointing 6-6 campaign in Brent Venables’ first year at the helm. The Sooners hold the No. 8 class in the country with five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold leading the group.

Both programs have a couple of priority targets that can push each class up the ranking.

With Texas and Oklahoma’s move to the SEC possibly ahead of schedule, we took a look at where the Longhorns and Sooners’ 2023 recruiting classes would rank in the SEC.

LOOK: West Virginia DL commit Justin Benton on Texas OV

The Longhorns are hoping to pull off the late flip over Big 12 rival West Virginia.

Three-star defensive lineman Justin Benton made his way to Austin this weekend for his Texas official visit.

The West Virginia commit is becoming a priority target for Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff. The Longhorns are hoping to pull off the late flip over Big 12 rival West Virginia.

247Sports ranks Benton as the No. 47 prospect in the state of Georgia and the No. 62 overall defensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class. He has offers from Texas, Penn State, Arkansas and Georgia.

Benton’s 6-foot-0, 280-pound frame projects well to play on the interior at the college level. His quick feet and excellent run-stopping ability make him a great fit for Texas’ defenive front.

Texas class currently sits comfortably inside the top five of the 2023 247Sports recruiting rankings. The Horns hope to close on a few more targets as the early signing period approaches.

Three players Texas is working to flip before signing day

Texas is hoping for another flipmas this season.

Early signing day is right around the corner, as the majority of the 2023 class will sign their letters of intent on Dec. 21.

Texas is sitting in a great spot with its 2023 class. The Longhorns rank No. 4 in the nation according to the 247Sports composite ratings. Five-stars Arch Manning and Cedric Baxter Jr. lead Texas’ talented recruiting class.

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff are hoping to end the 2023 cycle by making a massive splash on the recruiting trail.

Last season Texas made a late charge up the recruiting ranks with a few crucial flips in the month of December.

Offensive linemen Kelvin Banks and Cameron Williams made the last-second switch to Texas from Oregon. Banks had himself a Freshman All-American season, while Williams is expected to push for a starting job next season.

Here is a look at three prospects Texas is pushing to flip before the early signing period. Landing a couple of these prospects could move this class into the top three in the country.

LOOK: Texas staff visits with five-star RB commit Cedric Baxter

Texas’ staff is hitting the recruiting trail.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff are in the state of Florida for an in-home visit with five-star running back Cedric Baxter. Sarkisian was joined by running backs coach Tashard Choice and offensive line coach Kyle Flood on the visit.

Baxter committed to the Longhorns back in August over the likes of Florida, Florida State and Alabama. The elite prospect is one of the top players in Texas’ 2023 class. The coaching staff has done a great job keeping Baxter in the fold despite a strong push from other programs.

247Sports’ composite rankings list Baxter as the No. 4 running back and No. 47 overall player in the country.

The future Longhorn finished his excellent senior season at Edgewater High School rushing for 1375 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is expected to immediately compete for carries once he steps foot on Texas’ campus.

WATCH: New Texas commit Colton Vasek’s highlight tape

The newest Texas commit is a beast!

Texas landed a massive recruiting flip from arch-rival Oklahoma this week. Four-star EDGE rusher Colton Vasek decided to follow the golden hat to Texas and commit to the Longhorns.

Keeping the Austin Westlake product home was a top priority for Steve Sarkisian and Texas’ staff.

Texas fans relished in the news of Vasek’s addition to the class for good reason.

Vasek is listed as the No. 17 edge in the country and the No. 26 overall prospect in the lone star state for the 2023 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. His flip pushes Texas’ class up to No. 6 in the nation for the 2023 cycle.

At 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, Vasek has an ideal frame to turn into a great pass rusher at the college level. He is one of the most fundamentally sound prospects in the class. Vasek puts his deep skillset on display in his senior highlight film.

Texas Football: Longhorns eyeing two massive recruiting flips

Flipmas coming early for the Longhorns?

Steve Sarkisian and Texas’ coaching staff are not giving on on two priority targets in the 2023 recruiting class. The Longhorns remain all-in on five-star linebacker Anthony Hill and four-star defenive end Colton Vasek.

Texas appears to be trending in the right direction for both prospects. The Longhorns received multiple crystal ball projections in their favor for Hill and Vasek on Monday afternoon.

Hill announced his decommitment from Texas A&M on Monday and is scheduled to be in Austin this weekend for Texas’ matchup against TCU. Vasek is still verbally committed to Oklahoma but has been no stranger to Texas’ campus over the past few weeks.

Flipping the two blue-chip players would push Texas’ 2023 recruiting class up to No. 2 in the 247Sports composite rankings.

Last season the Longhorns struck gold by flipping five-star left tackle Kelvin Banks from Oregon late in the process. Time will tell if Texas’ relentless recruiting strategy is to pay off again this go around.
