Twitch launches new section just for adorable animals

Watch out, Ninja. Our fluffy, furry, and feathered friends are about to take Twitch by storm.

Twitch might be known for boisterous streamers and lively esports tournaments, but a whole new breed of influencer is about to take the platform by storm: animals.

Yes, our fluffy, furry, and feathered friends just got a section on Twitch. The “Animals, Aquariums, and Zoos” category, to be precise. Now you can easily track down a chill stream of bunnies munching on carrots or ducks frolicking about with ease. Twitch launched this section as part of its Animal Week celebration and will work with organizations dedicated to helping critters from all over the globe.

“Dedicating a space to our wonderful companions isn’t just a morale booster — it’s an exciting way to elevate the importance of environmental and conservation issues facing these critters of varying sizes and origin,” Twitch said on its blog. “We’re working with zoos, aquariums, and animal non-profits to elevate the animals, their conservation, and the restoration and conservation of the environment they need to thrive.”

There are some really cool channels from zoos already, like Marine Mammal Rescue Centre’s sea otter stream. Or The Honey Bee Hangout, which has, well, bees doing bee things!

So when you’re not too busy watching Rocket League  tournaments or popular influencers like Pokimane, maybe take a gander at what our pawsome friends are doing.

Riot Games announces on-air talent for 2021 League of Legends World Championships

There will be 22 on-air personalities hosting and commentating on the English broadcast alone.

With the 2021 League of Legends World Championships looming on the horizon, developer Riot Games went ahead and announced who’ll be commentating and hosting the event. It’s an extensive list featuring a staggering 22 on-air personalities, and that’s just for the English-speaking broadcast!

“We will utilize the LEC studio as our English broadcasting home base with some regional faces back in the studio for the first time since 2019,” Riot Games said on Lolesports. “The LCS and LCK studios will contribute to and support the broadcast virtually.”

There’ll be casters on the mic from each of League of Legends’ four prominent professional regions, Dot Esports  reported Thursday. That’s eight from LCS, seven from LEC, and seven more from the LPL and LCK, respectively.

Check out the on-air talent list for yourself below.

The 2021 League of Legends World Championships play-in stage will begin on Oct. 5 live from Reykjavík, Iceland. As is always the case, this will be the biggest esports event of the year. Ten of the best League of Legends pro teams will battle it out to figure out who’s numero uno, so it’s a can’t miss event for esports fans the world over.

TimTheTatman signs with Complexity Gaming and GameSquare Esports

The YouTube Gaming star continues to make big moves.

Complexity Gaming has brought on several high-profile influencers and esports stars as of late, but Tim “TheTatman” John Betar is its biggest signing yet. The organization announced Betar would be joining Complexity along with GameSquare Esports on Monday.

“Joining the Complexity team has been an amazing journey,” Betar said in a press release. “I’ve followed Complexity’s success and I am impressed with their commitment to winning in top-tier esports and the loyalty of their fans.”

Betar continued: “The connection with the Dallas Cowboys and the support of Jerry Jones is outstanding. I’m a lifelong Cowboys fan so this is a special opportunity within esports. My tour of the Complexity headquarters at the Star in Frisco was world-class; no esports facility comes close. When Complexity and GameSquare invited me to join the team, it was an easy yes.”

Unlike Complexity’s recent signing of GX3, though, Betar’s involvement seems to be more related to branding and merchandising. Apparently, Complexity and GameSquare Esports will work closely with Betar on new exclusive merchandise.

“TimTheTatman is an iconic streamer and will be an invaluable addition to the Complexity family as we look to expand our footprint in content creation,” Jason Lake, founder and CEO of Complexity Gaming and global head of esports at GameSquare, said. “As traditional sports, gaming, and entertainment continue to converge, our partnership with Tim will encompass the best of these worlds for fans to enjoy.”

Betar also recently made headlines after signing an exclusive streaming deal with YouTube Gaming, so he’s making quite a few big business moves this year.

Twitch is taking legal action against users allegedly responsible for hate raids

Two users allegedly behind some of the raids are being sued by Twitch.

Hate raids are an enormous ongoing problem on Twitch, and the streaming platform is suing some of the people allegedly behind it, Wired  reported Thursday. Specifically for “targeting black and LGBTQIA+ streamers with racist, homophobic, sexist and other harassing content.”

“We hope this Complaint will shed light on the identity of the individuals behind these attacks and the tools that they exploit, and dissuade them from taking similar behaviors to other services, and help put an end to these vile attacks against members of our community,” Twitch said via Wired

Twitch filed a suit with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California that targets two users. The actual identities of these individuals are unknown, but both apparently live in Europe. The suit states, “They evaded Twitch’s bans by creating new, alternate Twitch accounts, and continually altering their self-described ‘hate raid code’ to avoid detection and suspension by Twitch.”

While this doesn’t mean hate raids are a thing of the past just yet, several content creators on the platform think it’s a step in the right direction. Keep in mind that some of the tweets below contain NSFW language, so be careful when reading ahead.

“I feel hopeful,” RekitRaven, a streamer that helped organize the #ADayOffTwitch movement, said via Wired. “The people who are behind this need to be held accountable for their actions. They’ve terrorized hundreds if not thousands of people. If this were to happen in a physical location we’d expect the same. It shouldn’t be any different online.”

Watch: DrDisrespect joyously welcomes TimTheTatman to YouTube Gaming

Reunited, and it feels so good.

When Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV, a.k.a. DrDisrespect heard the news that Tim “TheTatman” John Betar was leaving Twitch for YouTube Gaming, he was beaming from ear to ear.

The two content creators are good friends, but they have been unable to play together since Beahm’s ban from Twitch last year. Until now, that is, as Betar’s move to YouTube means the two of them can finally reunite.

“Timmy Tenders is coming over to over to YouTube, huh, Champs,” Beahm said during a Monday YouTube stream. “Come on, get over here, Timmy! Get in here!” Barely able to contain his joy at the news.

Check out the heartwarming welcome from Beahm for yourself below.

Betar is likely just as excited over the news as he publicly stated how much he missed playing with Beahm. Hopefully, the two are in for many new adventures from now on.
