Oklahoma State vs Baylor Game Preview

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

Beating Arizona State seemed like a thing at the time, but the 34-17 win isn’t as big of a deal now. Central Michigan, Arkansas Pine-Bluff …

Now we get to see what Oklahoma State can really do. With two weeks off to get ready, this should be as strong as the team gets.

The running game hasn’t kicked it in quite yet, but Spencer Sanders and the passing attack have been good, the points have rolled in without having to go full throttle, and the defense has been terrific with an unstoppable pass rush and lots and lots of third down plays.

The Baylor ground game was stopped by Iowa State in the 31-24 Bear win, Oklahoma State’s defensive front should be able to hold up well on the road, and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Baylor Will Win

Baylor has been a rock against the run.

The defense was great against BYU in the tough 26-20 loss, no one has hit three yards per carry, and overall the D is allowing just over 300 yards per game with enough plays behind the line to matter.

No, the running game wasn’t great against the Cyclones, but Blake Shapen came up large with 238 yards and three touchdown passes in a sharp performance.

As long as he’s hitting his third down throws and there isn’t a turnover problem, the Bear D should be able to take care of the rest.

What’s Going To Happen

Can this be half as entertaining as the epic 2021 Big 12 Championship thriller?

Maybe.

Oklahoma State will come out surging with a few good, strong drives, but the Baylor defense that’s been fantastic in the red zone so far will hold firm and not let the game get too crazy.

Turnovers won’t be an issue for either side, but consistently keeping things moving will be.

At home, the Baylor defense will keep Spencer Sanders from getting comfortable, and Shapen will dink and dunk the offense to a tough, big win.

All Big 12 schools are in action this week as conference play is starting to heat up. The Week 5 stale should paint a picture of who is going to compete for a league title and who has work to be done.

No. 16 Baylor and No. 9 Oklahoma State get together for a rematch of last year’s Big 12 championship game. The Cowboys are unbeaten this season entering their first conference game of the season. Baylor is 3-1 coming off an impressive road victory at Iowa State.

No. 25 Kansas State host Texas Tech as both schools are coming off major upset wins. Wildcats’ Adrian Martinez and Red Raiders’ Donovan Smith provide a sneaky good quarterback matchup in this one.

No. 18 Oklahoma and Texas are looking to get back on the hump after struggles in Week 4. The Sooners travel to take on Sonny Dykes and new-look TCU. Texas welcomes West Virginia to town in what should be an offensive shootout.

Kansas just missed the AP Top 25 rankings after its 4-0 start to the 2022 campaign. They have an opportunity to jump into the rankings with a win over Iowa State this weekend. Matt Campbell’s cyclones are hoping to avoid an 0-2 start to Big 12 play.

Here is our prediction of each Big 12 matchup in an exciting Week 5.

It’s all about the bowl games coming up next – those require an entirely different skillset – but first, we close out with college football’s Championship Week.

There are just 11 games – normally there are 70+ games to pick and choose from – but you don’t care. You just want the magic to happen.

So let’s do this. Be bold. Be brave. Be …

Eh, whatever. I promised five picks, here’s seven, but with a twist.

Thanks so much for being a part of this fun and amazing college football season.

5. Kent State vs Northern Illinois & Pitt vs Wake Forest point totals

LINE Kent State vs Northern Illinois 74.5, Pitt vs Wake Forest 71.5
Point Total Picks Over

I’m combining these two games together for one simple reason – it goes against everything I believe in.

If you’ve been with this piece all year, hopefully you did alright with the belief system of ALWAYS taking the under on a mid-70s point total, and go crazy if it’s in the high-70s or – if we’ve been good people who deserve something nice – in the 80s.

Too many things have to happen to get to over on a 70+. Bad weather, turnovers, a parachute not opening, it could be anything to keep two offenses from trading haymakers.

That’s why I’ll throw in a polite suggestion of under on the 73 in the Conference USA Championship between UTSA and WKU. Yeah, yeah, yeah they combined for 98 in the first meeting, but that Roadrunner defense will show up just enough to keep Bailey Zappe and friends from going off.

I won’t lie, the MAC Championship scares me because MAC Championships are weird.

They almost NEVER go according to any form or reason, one side always wets the bed and turns it over a gajillion times, and … this should be wild.

Kent State just doesn’t do defense against decent offenses. Forget that these two combined for 99 points in the first meeting, it’s indoors, the Golden Flash offense is going to be even quicker, and one of the two sides should take care of at least 50 of this by itself.

And the ACC Championship? Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman and Pitt’s Kenny Pickett are about to put on a show.

Both defenses are coming off of oddly dominant performances, and Pitt hasn’t allowed more than 30 points in seven of its last nine games, but …

There’s no pressure. There’s no playoff spot on the line. These two are about to let it rip.

I’m doing the combined-pick thing again next, and then come the big calls …

Big 12 Championship: Oklahoma State vs Baylor Game Preview

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

The Cowboys took a punch.

They were in big, big trouble against Oklahoma with College Football Playoff viability on the line. The defense that hadn’t surrendered more than 24 points all year – and had allowed just 23 over a four game span leading up to Bedlam – hadn’t been the problem, but the team was down 33-24 in the fourth quarter.

The D stepped up, the O took over helped by a muffed OU punt return, and the team got the win and survived.

Now it’s time to get back to business.

Baylor is tough, dangerous, and disciplined, but it might not have QB Gerry Bohanon at 100% thanks to a leg injury, and it shouldn’t matter all that much even if he’s a full go. Oklahoma State won 24-14 in the first meeting despite turning the ball over three times.

The offense was balanced, the running game was great, and the defense lived in the Baylor backfield.

College Football Expert Picks, Championship Week

Why Baylor Will Win

The offense keeps on humming.

It hasn’t been quite as strong as it was over the first part of the season, but it still leads the Big 12 with 446 yards per game thanks to an offensive line that’s been great at keeping everyone out of the backfield – except Oklahoma State in the lone loss.

It’s not like the team can’t grind. The offense failed to get to 300 yards against Iowa State and still managed to equal out a tough win – and without coming up with a slew of takeaways.

The three against Oklahoma State in the first meeting didn’t add up a win, but the defense has stepped up the pressure over the second half of the season with two takeaways in four of the last five games.

All of the pressure is on the Cowboys to not only win the game, but do it convincingly enough to make the College Football Playoff committee swoon.  They’re not going to be able to get away with three takeaways again – the Baylor D is too good.

The Bears haven’t allowed more than 125 rushing yards in the last seven games since the loss to the Cowboys.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 13

What’s Going To Happen

It’s hard to beat a team twice in a season, but Oklahoma State is about to do it.

Baylor will be more than just plucky. They’ll pull out all the stops, they’ll be balanced, and they should be able to make this a fight …

And then the Oklahoma State defense will take over in the second half.

The Cowboy defensive line will crank up the intensity after not generating enough pressure early on, the secondary will clamp down, and the offense will start to pull away with two good scoring drives.

It won’t be a blowout that demands a spot in the College Football Playoff, but as as 12-1 Power Five champion, Oklahoma State will get the call.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys will meet the Baylor Bears in the Semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Friday night.

Oklahoma State is coming off a 72-69 win over West Virginia yesterday with Cade Cunningham leading the way with 17 points. They’ll need some more of Cade tonight if they want to keep up with the Baylor offense. As for Baylor, they are coming off a closer game than they expected yesterday against Kansas State, they were favored by 20 and won by only 6 points. This is a good spot for Oklahoma State to be in this semifinal matchup.

Oklahoma State (17-6) vs Baylor (19-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

Baylor isn’t quite back to being itself.

It was bad enough to struggling against a miserable Iowa State, but it was blasted by Kansas and had a hard time getting by a strong West Virginia. The 21-day layoff appears to have mattered, and Oklahoma State has to take advantage.

What’s going wrong for the Bears? The defense has been roasted – allowing the last four teams to combine to hit close to 50% of their shots – and the offense hasn’t been consistent enough from the outside. The biggest problem, though, has been the inability to dominate on the boards like it did before the time off.

Oklahoma State, on the other hand, has been fantastic at owning the rebounding margin and has been fantastic from the field. The O perked up in the big back-to-back wins over Oklahoma.

Why Baylor Will Win

Yeah, okay – this isn’t the juggernaut Baylor team that was ripping through everyone before the last three games, but it’s still just fine.

You don’t go into Morgantown and come away with a win over West Virginia without being okay.

The shooting wasn’t there against Kansas and wasn’t great against Iowa State, but the passing has been fine to set up easy scores, and the team managed to look the part again for stretches in the OT win over WVU.

Oklahoma State might be on a run, but it’s not hitting a ton of threes and it’s had to win in a slew of tight battles.

What’s Going To Happen

At home, Baylor should be close to normal.

The team has had just the one home date against Iowa State since January, and it’ll be sharp from the field and the D will come up with just enough stops late to get out with a terrific win.

The Bears will make the stops against the Cowboys in the final few minutes that the last several teams weren’t able to do.

Oklahoma State (6-3) vs Baylor (2-6) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

Baylor is struggling way too much on the offensive line with no running game and not enough production against any pass rush.

The Bears ran for 207 yards against Texas Tech, and opened the season with just over 200 yards against Kansas, and that’s been it. The team hasn’t been able to get past 75 yards on the ground against anyone else.

The Cowboys will give up passing yards – they’re having issues lately in the last three games – but they’re also having big issues against the run, allowing more than 200 in three of the last four games and four of the last six.

For all of the issues, the D is among the best in the country on third downs. Stop the run, force third-and-long, and the Baylor offense that’s only converting 34% of its third down chances will struggle.

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Baylor Will Win

The defense has been playing better and the passing game has been okay.

Oklahoma could never get going last week, finishing with just 269 yards and struggling to put the game away. The Bears might not be great all-around defensively, but it’s not bad at getting into the backfield and it only allowed over 200 passing yards once in the last five games – against Texas Tech.

Veteran QB Charlie Brewer has been through the wars and knows what he’s doing, and he’s closing out well. He might not be hitting on enough downfield passes, but he was brilliant against Kansas State and steady against Oklahoma – even if he misfired a bit too much.

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

Oklahoma State’s offensive balance over the last few weeks should be enough to get by a Baylor team that’s struggling to do anything consistently well.

The Bears aren’t going to be able to run a lick, and while Brewer will bomb away in his home finale, it won’t be enough. Like everything else with Oklahoma State lately, it’s not going to be easy, though.
