Dustin Johnson gave fans his wedges in parking lot after 2024 LIV Golf Las Vegas win

DJ was feeling generous after his first win of 2024.

Cute kids get golf balls and gloves all the time at tournaments, but it’s rare for full-grown adults to leave an event with a souvenir (unless they get hit by an errant shot).

After Dustin Johnson won the 2024 LIV Golf Las Vegas event this past weekend at Las Vegas Country Club, a couple of fans walked away with a pretty rare gift: his wedges.

Johnson was putting his clubs away when a few fans strolled by and congratulated him on his third win since joining the league led by Greg Norman and backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. They asked for a picture and got a little bit more.

Johnson was an original member of LIV Golf and has one win in each of the league’s first three seasons. His first victory came at the LIV Golf Invitational Boston in 2022 and his last came at LIV Golf Tulsa in 2023.

It pays to play in the Saudi-backed league. Just ask Dustin Johnson.

The 39-year-old 4Aces GC captain won for the third time on the Saudi-backed circuit on Saturday after a 1-under 69 in the final round at Las Vegas Country Club to claim the league’s second event of the 2024 season, LIV Golf Las Vegas.

For his efforts, Johnson will take home the top prize of $4 million. Dustin Johnson wins 2024 LIV Golf Las Vegas; Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC take team title

The win is the third of Johnson’s LIV Golf career.

LIV Golf made a bold decision to host an event in Las Vegas the same week as the Super Bowl.

While the league’s second start of 2024 was largely overshadowed by the big game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, Saturday’s final round at Las Vegas Country Club was a tasty Super Bowl appetizer for sports fans with a knack for the chaotic.

Six players were tied for the lead at 10 under with three holes to play, but in the end it was Dustin Johnson who emerged victorious. The 39-year-old won 2024 LIV Golf Las Vegas at 12 under par following a 1-under 69 in the final round. The win is Johnson’s third since joining LIV Golf and is his third victory in as many years with the league. His first came at the LIV Golf Invitational Boston in 2022 and his last came at LIV Golf Tulsa in 2023.

“I knew it was going to be tough obviously with the conditions. But a lot of really good players were right around the lead,” Johnson said of his final round. “I knew I was going to have to play well if I wanted to win. Obviously making a clutch birdie there on 17 to give me a one-shot lead, then obviously did a great job at 18 and just had the two-putt for the victory.”

Talor Gooch (Smash GC) finished T-2 at 11 under alongside Peter Uihlein (RangeGoats GC), both of whom were previously traded by Johnson. Uihlein’s teammate Matthew Wolff finished fourth at 10 under, with three players tied for fifth: Graeme McDowell (Smash GC), Jason Kokrak (Smash GC) and Paul Casey (Crushers GC).

The team competition was close until the back nine, where Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC ran away with the trophy at 33 under, seven shots clear of runner-up 4Aces GC, captained by Johnson, at 26 under. Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats GC finished third at 24 under.

The league returns to action March 1-3 at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club with 2024 LIV Golf Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Best shots from 2024 LIV Golf Las Vegas at Las Vegas Country Club

LIV Golf sets the stage for Sunday’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

The countdown to Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is on but first, LIV Golf Las Vegas will take center stage in Sin City.

A week after finishing dead last, Harold Varner III was tied for the lead with Paul Casey after the first round before Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson each fired rounds of 8-under 62 in round two at Las Vegas Country Club on Friday to tie for the lead at 11 under. Johnson went on to win the event at 12 under for his third LIV Golf victory, while Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC claimed the team title.

The 54-hole, no-cut event ended on Saturday ahead of the big game on Sunday. Here’s a look at some of the best photos of the week from 2024 LIV Golf Las Vegas at Las Vegas Country Club.

Jon Rahm doesn’t regret LIV Golf decision, but he’s still ’emotional’ after missing PGA Tour events

“It was a lot harder to be at home not competing and know that those events were going on,” Rahm said.

Simply put, Jon Rahm doesn’t regret his decision to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. That said, it’s been an emotional couple of months for the Spaniard.

He missed out on title defenses last month at both The Sentry and American Express, and will miss another next week at the Genesis Invitational. Two weeks ago he couldn’t play at Torrey Pines, where he’s a two-time winner with the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open, his first PGA Tour victory, and the 2021 U.S. Open, his first major championship. This week he’s missing his hometown WM Phoenix Open.

“It was a lot harder to be at home not competing and know that those events were going on. Palm Springs and Torrey, those weeks were hard. I’ve explained so many times how important Torrey is for me,” Rahm explained earlier this week ahead of his second LIV Golf start. “And driving by Phoenix as often as I had to and knowing that I wasn’t going to play there, it’s definitely emotional. That’s one of the things that I’m going to miss.”

“I’m hoping that in the near future I can be back playing some of those events,” he added. “I would certainly love to go back and play some of them.”

But when the shotgun start begins at Las Vegas Country Club, all of that will be behind him.

“Now, when the tournament started, we’re here to compete, so whatever else is going on, whatever tournament is going on doesn’t really matter,” he explained. “We’re here to hopefully perform well and win. It’s a lot easier while we’re playing.”

Rahm certainly made it look easy in his debut last week at Mayakoba in Mexico, where he finished T-3 to lead his Legion XIII to the team title in their first event. All eyes have been on Rahm since his shocking move to the Saudi-backed league given his past comments about the 54-hole format, and while the 29-year-old seems to be enjoying his early days with LIV, his eyes are still glancing elsewhere.

“I would love to, if allowed and if I can, go play the Spanish Open, and if it doesn’t conflict with LIV’s schedule, right. But a tournament that both me and (teammate Tyrrell Hatton) are going to miss dearly is Wentworth. If I qualify, I’d still love to go play in Dubai, the DP World Tour Championship. There’s certainly events I would like to play,” Rahm said. “PGA Tour, we’ll see. If there’s ever a way back and a way where we can play, even if it’s as an invite, I will take it. Like I said, there’s certain events that are special to me that I would still love to support.”

With Super Bowl in town, 2024 LIV Golf Las Vegas has loaded pro-am field

A handful of Las Vegas athletes and sports personalities are on hand at Las Vegas Country Club.

It’s Super Bowl week and the big game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers has brought a who’s who of celebrities and athletes to Sin City, but the NFL isn’t the only show in town.

The LIV Golf League is hosting its second event of the 2024 season down the strip at Las Vegas Country Club, Feb. 8-10, and Wednesday’s pro-am features a loaded field of current and former NFL players, World Series champion MLB players, Fortune 500 executives and more. The format will see three amateurs play the front nine holes with one LIV Golf pro and the back nine with another pro. Check out who’s in the field below.
