Detroit Lions fans and media celebrate the fantastic opening TD drive vs. Falcons

It did not take long for the Detroit Lions to show off the new and improved offense under rookie coordinator Ben Johnson. Detroit’s offense stormed down the field on the opening drive of the preseason kickoff against the visiting Atlanta Falcons.

Detroit efficiently drove 79 yards down the field in 10 plays, a nice mix of run and pass. After a poor first play, the five guys on the line completely dominated the Falcons defensive front. The Lions capped off the drive with RB D’Andre Swift sashaying into the end zone around the left side for a 9-yard touchdown.

The fans starving for some offensive excitement loved it. So did much of the Lions media. Here’s a sampling of the top reactions to the beautiful scoring drive.

Amani Oruwariye thanks Lions fans after going on IR on Christmas day

Oruwariye thanked the Lions fans for all the support and encouragement after his season ended on Christmas day

Lions fans sent the love to Amani Oruwariye, and the cornerback felt it and appreciated the well-wishes.

Oruwariye’s 2021 season came to an end on Christmas day when the Lions placed the third-year cornerback on injured reserve with a thumb injury. Fans immediately took to social media to wish Oruwariye a speedy recovery and thank him for a very good season. His six interceptions is good for third in the NFL and Oruwariye has been a beacon of reliability in coverage in a sea of constantly changing personnel around the secondary.

True to his good nature, Oruwariye posted a message on Twitter thanking the fans. “Appreciate all the love this year.. Merry Christmas”, Oruwariye posted.

We echo the Lions original tweet. Get well soon, Amani, we need you back and healthy for 2022.

Lions fans are disgusted with Jared Goff’s first-half performance vs. Bengals

Goff had another terrible first half and the fans are not happy about it

Jared Goff has enjoyed varying levels of the benefit of the doubt through the first five weeks. In the first half of Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Goff lost anyone who had lent him the contextual excuses.

Goff had a rotten first half versus the Bengals. He completed 9-of-15 passes for just 38 yards and one interception, though the turnover was not directly his fault. The Lions managed just four first downs, none in the first quarter.

Fans took out their anger and frustration at Goff’s timid and ineffective play on social media. And they did not hold back…

The Matt Patricia burner account on Twitter was indeed a fake

There’s already a Bob Quinn fake burner account out there too

Earlier this week, the Twitter and Reddit portions of Lions fandom took the ball and ran with the possibility that Twitter account EddyPLionsFan was actually a burner account for freshly fired head coach Matt Patricia. The account vehemently defended Patricia and had some easy-to-follow breadcrumbs trailing to an identity that some could really think was the ex-coach.

It was not Patricia. The man behind the account, a Rams fan from Utah named Dylan Cardwell, stepped forward and debunked the fake news. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press interviewed Cardwell and got the details behind the story of how a well-conceived prank blew up far beyond what Cardwell expected.

So no, the alleged burner account from Matt Patricia was not real.

There’s already a Bob Quinn fake burner account out there too. It interacted with me on Wednesday,

Lions fans react to the firing of Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn

Based on the fan reaction it’s a wildly popular move

The Detroit Lions’ “Patriot Era” is officially over.

After bringing in two staffers from the successful New England Patriots to Detroit, fans were excited about what that could mean for the Lions.  Unfortunately, it amounted to nothing except losing and frustration for both the fans and the players. When the word got out this afternoon, Lions fans took to Twitter with their feelings. Here are some of the better reactions.

A couple of Patriots fans got in on it:

But I think the most telling reaction is from former players.  Patricia apparently was not a “players coach.”

The Detroit “Patriot Era” is done.  And one that we probably won’t look too fondly upon.  But cheers to the next version of the Detroit Lions.

Lions fans vent frustration on Twitter after dreadful loss to the Redskins

Because sports talk radio isn’t available until Monday…

Detroit Lions fans are not happy, not one bit. Losing to a lousy Washington Redskins team in a sloppy, mistake-filled game will raise anyone’s blood pressure. Doing that for the team’s fourth loss in a row and seventh defeat in eight games will bring out the anger.

Many fans vented their frustrations on Twitter, where yelling into the social media abyss is a rite of passage for the disgruntled.

A lot of times the reaction is apathy. That level of acceptance has yet to hit with the freshness of the foolishness that the Lions called football on Sunday.

Some of the best reactions:

There were many fingers to point in the loss. Here are a few choice ones…
