Breaking down potential lineups for the 2023-24 OKC Thunder

Let’s look at several different types of lineups the Thunder could use this upcoming season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder enter the 2023-24 season with winning expectations after a surprising 40-42 campaign last year.

The return of Chet Holmgren increases the hype surrounding the Thunder because he is the expected solution to most of their defensive problems from last season. He joins Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey and Jalen Williams as the players who will likely receive the most minutes.

The Thunder also enter the season with incredible depth. They have several young prospects and useful veterans on their roster.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault — notorious for tinkering with his roster — could get creative with his lineups and experiment with which players fit well together.

Let’s look at some potential lineups Daigneault could form for the Thunder throughout the season.

Falcons Week 1 starting lineup: Drake London listed as WR1

Atlanta Falcons: Starting lineups for Sunday’s season-opening matchup against the New Orleans Saints

On Tuesday, the Atlanta Falcons released their first official depth chart for this weekend’s game against the New Orleans Saints. While the fans are already familiar with most of the team’s starters, there were a few minor surprises.

Marcus Mariota was named QB1 over Desmond Ridder, center Drew Dalman got the nod over Matt Hennessy, and only one Falcons rookie, Drake London, landed a starting job in Week 1.

Have a look at the Falcons’ starting offensive and defensive lineups entering Sunday’s matchup against the Saints.

The Boston Celtics have an astounding array of lineups they can deploy in 2022-23

Adding Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari to the Celtics roster didn’t just make the deeper, it made them more flexible.

The Boston Celtics not only added depth to their roster by signing veteran forward Danilo Gallinari and trading for Indiana Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon; they also opened a world of possibilities in the way they can play with competent players configured in an endless array of lineups designed to counter almost anything an opponent can throw at them next season.

Boston will likely start — barring any major trades — the 2022-23 season with a team that can play big or small, five-out, as a defensive wall, a varied offensive attack, or with an emphasis on shooting among many other iterations.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast hashed out the possibilities, as well as who might get what kind of minutes next season, and whether anyone might be left wanting.

Watch the clip embedded above to see for yourself what the trio has to say about Boston’s minutes distribution and lineup possibilities for the season to come.

Celtics Lab 135: Diving into the seemingly endless combinations of lineups Boston could use in 2022-23

In this episode, we take stock of Boston’s embarrassment of riches when it comes to the players they can put on the floor together.

The Boston Celtics, by most accounts, had one of the better offseasons around the NBA. They added veteran forward Danilo Gallinari and former Indiana Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon via free agency and trade, respectively.

That they did so at the cost of only a collection of players who seldom saw the floor in the postseason left the core of the Celtics’ NBA Finals team in tact and in an enviable position. The depth Boston has should not only help the team keep the minutes of their best players down throughout the 2022-23 regular season, but it also provides the team a dizzying array of lineup options to play.

They can play very big, or hold their own with small lineups, able to field adept small and tall ball units equally. A squad built for switchy defense? Check. One built for shooting? Easy. Is the plan to put the opponent in a spin cycle with a mixture of passing and offensive skills? Got it.

Breaking down potential lineups for the 2022-23 Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics suddenly have a ton of roster flexibility. What are some of the best lineups available to head coach Ime Udoka?

Last year Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka relied heavily on a shortened rotation down the final stretch of the 2021-22 regular season and into the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Sure, the Celts were hugely successful in that time, but the roster didn’t allow much allow in the way of flexibility or injury insurance in a season where COVID still loomed.

Looking ahead to the ’22-23 season, though, and things look different. With the addition of players like Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari, suddenly Udoka’s depth chart is almost an embarrassment of riches. Assuming full health, the Celtics have a ton of lineup possibilities to play with.

So what five-man groups will Udoka use? (Or should use?) Until training camp and the preseason, we can’t really know for sure. But for now, let’s predict some of the best Celtics lineups ahead of the ’22-23 season.
