Nebraska basketball receives Lincoln native commit

The Huskers received their first class of 2025 commitment for basketball.

The Huskers received their first class of 2025 commitment for basketball. Lincoln native Braden Frager announced his commitment to Nebraska on Twitter Friday afternoon.

The 6-foot-6 shooting forward is a three-star recruit from Lincoln Southwest High School and is coming off a tremendous sophomore season. Frager played in 23 games for the Silver Hawks and finished the year with 11.4 points per game, placing him third on the team. Frager led the team in rebounds per game, averaging seven.

Frager also finished with two 20-point games in his sophomore season. His biggest game came in the team’s comeback win over Lincoln Southeast, where he led the team with 28 points.

Frager chose Nebraska over several other Power 5 schools, including Iowa, Northwestern and Creighton.

Indianapolis native Tae Davis transfers to Notre Dame

Add another forward to the roster.

Consistent with his goal of tapping into the state of Indiana’s talent pool, [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] has struck again.

Although the news was made known June 1, Notre Dame finally announced the addition of Indianapolis native and former Seton Hall forward [autotag]Tae Davis[/autotag]. This marks the fourth player with Indiana roots on the Irish’s roster, joining [autotag]J.R. Konieczny[/autotag], [autotag]Markus Burton[/autotag] and [autotag]Logan Imes[/autotag]. The program hasn’t had this many players from the Hoosier State on their roster since the 2015-16 season.

In Davis’ lone season with the Pirates, he averaged 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds over 32 games. He started twice and achieved his season scoring high of 11 points during his first collegiate game against Monmouth. He also had 10 points and seven rebounds in a win over Division II Lincoln.

Davis becomes the 11th player on the 2023-24 roster and the fourth forward for a program that continues to be guard-heavy. Here’s hoping Shrewsberry and his staff can add one more big before the season tips off.

2022 ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchups announced

Besides the one involving the Irish, which game most interests you?

Few things draw more excitement during the early part of the college basketball season than the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Every team from one power conference matches up against one from the other. Whether the opponent is good or bad, it also is nice for these teams to see how well they do against a similar level of competition. It definitely is one of the major tuneups for when the conference schedule begins.

The 2022 matchups have been announced, and the ACC would like to change its luck. The conference won this series, which began in 1999, in each of its first 10 seasons. Since then, its only wins have come in 2016 and 2017, the latter of which saw it post a series-best 11-3 record. The Big Ten has had the upper hand in each of the past three years, so a changing of the guard is overdue.

Here are the matchups for this year’s edition:

JUCO Lineman to visit Lincoln by month end

Another JUCO prospect may help add depth to the defensive line!

A JUCO defensive lineman has announced his plans to visit the University of Nebraska. Rivals are reporting that Taylor Lewis is planning a visit to Lincoln on the weekend of May 27. It was back on May 12 that Lewis announced that defensive coordinator Erik Chinander had offered the lineman a scholarship to play for the Cornhuskers.

The 6’3″ 295-pound Lewis is a Kenwood, Illinois native who had been playing defensive tackle for College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. He currently holds six Power Five scholarship offers. Joining the Huskers are Arkansas, Auburn, Missouri, Oregon State and Washington State. The WSU Cougars are the only Power Five school that Lewis has visited during his recruitment process though he does have plans to visit Oregon State later this month as well as Lincoln.

Memorial Stadium Preparing for New Field Turf

Nebraska is preparing for the installation of a new field following the spring game on April 9th.

The University of Nebraska is preparing for the installation of new field following the spring game on April 9th. Late last month, during his regularly scheduled radio appearance, Athletic Director Trev Alberts went into detail on the new look of Memorial Stadium come this fall. The Huskers will be dropping the two-toned green field seen in recent years for a single shade of green. Other details shared during the radio hit was that the shade of green would be darker than most Cornhusker fans are used to over the year. The endzones will remain the same, with the north endzone reading Huskers, while the south endzone will be decorated with Nebraska. The traditional N at midfield will remain the same as in previous incarnations. Albert’s confessed that he didn’t mind the program returning to a more boring look after having experimented with minor tweaks to various program designs over the year.

NCAA Investigation into Nebraska Football may be ending

A conclusion may be on the horizon for the NCAA’s investigation into Nebraska football.

A conclusion may be on the horizon for the NCAA’s investigation into Nebraska football. While appearing on his monthly radio show late last month, Athletic Director Trev Alberts said, “I think we’re getting close to the finish line. It won’t be forever, and we’ll get that behind us, and we’ll move forward appropriately.”

It’s believed that the Huskers are under NCAA investigation for the improper use of a special teams analyst during the 2021 season. Jonathan Rutledge was a special teams analyst for NU in 2021 and was not allowed to have on-field contact with players. However, Brett McMurphy of ActionNetwork reports that the school has “significant video footage” showing the then-analyst having on-field contact with players.

Alberts made several points of saying how close a resolution was “I think we’re getting close to the finish line. Again, proud of the team, proud of Coach Frost, proud of the collaboration with the NCAA.” It’s unknown when a resolution might occur or what penalties the Huskers are facing if found in violation of NCAA rules.

Top Pass Rusher to Visit for Spring Game

One of the top pass rushers remaining in the transfer portal will be taking a trip to Lincoln in early April.

One of the top pass rushers remaining in the transfer portal will be taking a trip to Lincoln in early April. Ochaun Mathis, formerly of TCU, announced on his Twitter page that he will be visiting the University of Nebraska for the spring game on April 9th. Mathis had 45 tackles and 4 sacks in 2021 and played in 38 total games in Fort Worth where he complied 135 tackles and 15.5 sacks.

Mathis has named his top five remaining schools and Nebraska will have to compete against Texas, USC, Ole Miss, and Penn State for the former Horned Frog. The 6’5″ 257-pound defensive end/outside linebacker would fill a vital need for a Husker pass rush that finished near the bottom of the Big Ten in sacks with only 20 for the year. April 9th is now showing to be a big day in Lincoln, not just for the future of the offense with QB recruit Dylan Raiola stopping in for a visit but it’s now proving to be a big day for the defense as well.

Women’s Basketball: All-Big Selection to Return for Super-Senior Year

Sam Haiby has announced that she will use her fifth year of eligibility and return to the Cornhuskers basketball team.

Head Coach Amy Williams continues to get good news for the 2022-23 Nebraska women’s basketball season. Sam Haiby has announced that she will use her fifth year of eligibility and return to the Cornhuskers basketball team. Haiby received a fifth year of eligibility due to the NCAA’s COVID-eligibility policy. The guard averaged 10.5 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds per game this season and was named an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten for the season. She’s also the only player in school history to accumulate 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 400 assists.

In a statement released by the school, Haiby says “I still feel like I have more to accomplish as a player and a leader. I am coming back to Nebraska next season because we believe we can take our program another step further together. I can’t wait to go to work again with this team. I love being a Husker because There is No Place Like Nebraska.”

The return of Haiby means that the Huskers may return all five starters from a team that went 24-9 last season and went to the NCAA Tournament. Isabelle Bourne, Alexis Markowski, Alison Weidner, and Jaz Shelley are set to return for next season. Things are looking very good for the Huskers heading into the off-season.
