Who did Lee Corso Pick on College GameDay, Texas or Texas A&M?

See who Lee Corso picked on ESPN’s College Gameday ahead of No. 3 Texas vs No. 20 Texas A&M.

For the first time in 13 years, Texas and Texas A&M are reigniting their storied college football rivalry. ESPN’s College GameDay marked the long-awaited showdown by broadcasting live from College Station on Saturday, the final week of the 2024 regular season.

The renewed rivalry, dubbed the “98th meeting,” took center stage on the popular pregame show, with analysts weighing in on the high-stakes matchup. The highlight came during Lee Corso’s much-anticipated headgear selection. With a packed crowd of Aggies fans looking on, Corso briefly teased the home team by holding up a Texas A&M cap, only to toss it aside dramatically.

“Forget it. Give me Bevo,” Corso said, donning the Longhorn mascot head and flashing the Hook ’Em Horns sign to a mixture of cheers and groans from the crowd.

The panel was split on predictions for the game. Nick Saban sided with Texas, while others leaned toward Texas A&M. Regardless of allegiances, the stakes are clear: Saturday’s winner will advance to the SEC Championship Game, with a chance to secure an automatic berth and a first-round bye in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.

Ewers’ Status Looms Over Matchup

The Longhorns’ chances could hinge on the health of quarterback Quinn Ewers, whose injury status remains a major storyline heading into the game.

Rivalry Resumes After 13-Year Pause

Texas and Texas A&M last faced off in 2011, shortly before the Aggies left the Big 12 for the SEC. Now reunited in the same conference following the Longhorns’ move to the SEC, the rivalry is back in full swing.

While Texas, ranked No. 4, holds a solid position to make the CFP even with a loss, the stakes are higher for No. 8 Texas A&M. The Aggies face a more uncertain postseason outlook should they come up short in this monumental game. Texas vs Texas A&M is slated for a 6:30pm kick on ABC.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Texas-Texas A&M

Lee Corso made his final pick of the 2024 regular season from Texas-Texas A&M in College Station.

For the last regular-season game of the season, ESPN’s College GameDay was in College Station for No. 3 Texas at No. 20 Texas A&M, where the winner of that game will face Georgia in the SEC championship matchup next weekend.

With Dude Perfect on set as the guest picker, the GameDay crew made their weekly picks. Among his, the legendary Lee Corso went with No. 19 BYU over Houston, No. 6 Miami over Syracuse, No. 5 Notre Dame over USC, No. 13 Alabama over Auburn, No. 8 Tennessee over Vanderbilt and No. 2 Ohio State over Michigan.

But then it was time for GameDay’s game of the week: Longhorns or Aggies. And Corso went with Texas, putting on a Bevo head with horns up:

Texas is a 5.5-point favorite over Texas A&M on Saturday, according to BetMGM.

Nick Saban also picked Texas over Texas A&M, but he acknowledged how hard it is to play in College Station first.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Indiana vs. Ohio State

Hoosiers or Buckeyes? Lee Corso chose his heart.

This Saturday, Lee Corso chose his heart over his head.

ESPN’s College GameDay went to Columbus, Ohio this weekend for the crucial Big Ten matchup between undefeated Indiana and Ohio State. Corso, who has been pretty good at picking the big game of the week this season, got back on track last week when he donned the Georgia Bulldogs’ mascot head before their win over Tennessee. On the year, Corso is 7-2 in headgear picks.

Ahead of the Hoosiers’ matchup with the Buckeyes, a lot of folks were wondering who Corso might pick. He coached at Indiana and still has an affinity for the school in Bloomington, but the Hoosiers entered Saturday as double-digit underdogs.

Corso chose his heart.

ESPN’s Lee Corso sticks to Texas national title prediction

ESPN’s Lee Corso has set his eyes on Texas winning the National Championship

This season, the No. 3 Texas Longhorns (9-1) have been Corso’s choice to win the national championship in their inaugural SEC season, and as Week 12 unfolded, he remained steadfast in his prediction.

“Now, Texas is my pick to win the national championship. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it,” Corso declared on Saturday’s broadcast.

Corso made his championship prediction before the season began, choosing Texas over other national contenders. With the Longhorns set to face the Arkansas Razorbacks (5-4) on Saturday, GameDay host Rece Davis pressed Corso on whether he’d reconsider his pick if Texas were upset in Fayetteville.

“Are you sticking to it if Arkansas gets them today?” Davis asked.

“Texas is winning the national championship,” Corso reaffirmed confidently.

Corso highlighted the Longhorns’ well-rounded performance as the foundation for his prediction. He emphasized that Texas is the only team in the nation ranked in the top 10 in rushing offense, pass offense, and pass defense. Additionally, the Longhorns boast nine consecutive road victories.

“Two things that make Texas special,” Corso said. “Texas is the only team in the nation that is top ten in rushing offense, pass defense, pass offense. And they’ve won nine straight road games.”

Texas is currently ranked #3 in the Week 13 AP Poll, as well as, #1 in the Southeastern Conference standings at 9-1 (5-1 Conference). Texas will look to host Kentucky at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 2:30pm. After that, it’s all eyes on Kyle Field for the Lone Star Showdown.

College GameDay announces another first time site for Week 9

The Indiana Hoosiers will host ESPN College GameDay for the first time in Week 9, a return to his old home for Lee Corso.

ESPN College GameDay heads to Bloomington for the first time in program history in Week 9 for a Big Ten matchup between the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers and the Washington Huskies, last year’s national championship runner-ups.

Lee Corso, the longtime GameDay broadcaster who returned this past weekend after a health related absence, will finally return home.

Corso coached at Indiana from 1973-1982, going 41-68-2 as head coach which included a No. 19 ranking in the AP Poll and a Holiday Bowl victory both in 1979.

The Hoosiers are 7-0 under new head coach Curt Cignetti, who has lit a fire under this program after coming over from James Madison. The Hoosiers blasted Nebraska on Sunday, winning 56-7 over a team that was 5-1 coming into the contest.

At this point Indiana is on the periphery of the College Football Playoff picture, with some concerned the team’s strength of schedule is partly responsible for the team’s hot start. Still, Indiana hasn’t been skating by but rather blowing teams out, with the closest margin of victory coming against Maryland – a game the Hoosiers won 42-28.

Washington has been average so far this season, sitting at 4-3 and 2-2 in Big Ten play, but Indiana may have to get past the Huskies without starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke – who exited Saturday’s game against the Cornhuskers with an injury.

The game kicks off at 12:00 PM ET on Saturday, October 26th on the Big Ten Network.

Texas crowd gives warm welcome to Lee Corso in return to College GameDay

Fans in Austin welcomed Lee Corso back to the College GameDay crew after a two week absence for health related reasons.

After a two-week absence due to illness, college football analyst Lee Corso returned to ESPN’s College GameDay program on Saturday morning in Austin, Texas for an SEC battle between the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs.

The 89-year-old Corso missed GameDay’s last two appearances – in Berkeley, California for an ACC matchup between Cal and Miami, followed by Eugene for the massive Big Ten battle between Oregon and Ohio State – and was welcomed back to a huge ovation from the crowd in Austin.

“It’s been a long two weeks without you, so we’re glad you’re home,” fellow anchor Kirk Herbstreit said. “And you already got your Hook ’em going.”

GameDay is in Austin for a huge matchup between the No. 1 ranked Longhorns, who are 6-0 and 2-0 in the SEC, and the No. 4 Bulldogs of Georgia, who are 5-1 with their only loss coming against Alabama.

The fans in Austin have a long wait, with the game scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 PM CT on ABC.

Oregon and Ohio State mascots heartwarmingly made College GameDay signs for absent Lee Corso

If there’s one thing Brutus and the Duck can agree on, it’s their love of Lee Corso.

If you had to choose two mascots synonymous with Lee Corso on ESPN’s College GameDay, the Oregon Duck and Ohio State’s Brutus Buckeye would be the obvious picks.

Corso absolutely loves both of them so dearly, he could consider them personal friends and no one would think twice about it. Which is what made Saturday so bittersweet.

As GameDay returned to Eugene for No. 3 Oregon vs. No. 2 Ohio State, Corso was absent from the show for the second consecutive week. Host Rece Davis provided an encouraging update on Corso’s health, but the coach’s presence was sorely missed — especially by the two lovable mascots who’ve allowed Corso to don their headgear on numerous occasions.

But while the two teams are set to battle Saturday evening, the mascots spent the morning in harmony, making their own GameDay signs sending well wishes to Corso. It was just the best.

Kirk Herbstreit told viewers he spoke to Corso earlier in the week and the coach picked Ohio State to win, but we won’t count that. We need the headgear on Corso’s head for any pick to become official.

Who did College GameDay predict will win between Georgia-Alabama

College GameDay hosts Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard predict how the UGA-Alabama game will go.

College GameDay is taking place in Tuscaloosa, watching the matchup between the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide. In advance of the matchup starting at 7:30, each analyst (not including Rece Davis)  decided to take a shot at predicting how the game would go. Here’s what each one of them said:

Desmond Howard

“I have a concern in that Alabama offensive line when I saw against USF. They made some changes in the second half to take over that game, and they just dominated Wisconsin. I love what I’m seeing from the trenches at Alabama. Roll Tide!”

Nick Saban, Terry Saban

Nick & Terry: “Roll Tide Roll!”

Terry: “If I can add to that, I talked to one of the mothers of one of our players and she said ‘Her son said we are confident, and we are ready'”

It’s an expected pick, and it’s classic Saban, who’s been feeding rat poison to Georgia with false prophecies of them being the best team in the SEC.

Pat McAfee

A lot of people were the most excited about this pick, with last year’s being so entertaining. He didn’t disappoint.

“Give me the state that has been phenomenal for college football for so long. Give me the state that has the bear, the goat, and now DeBoer, and from the strip to the quad to the Saban household last night that is absolutely beautiful, there’s only one thing that’s running through my soul, and that is ROLLLLL TIDE!!!! I got Alabama in the Kalen DeBoer era putting a stamp on the SEC.”

Lee Corso

Corso’s pick was super special. He brought a mascot head for the team he picked.

“I’ve picked Alabama 37 times. Alabama’s got a quarterback who has accounted for 14 touchdowns in the first three games, eight of them passing and six of them running. You see his highlights the whole week. ‘Roll Tide.”

ESPN ‘College GameDay’ picks for Wisconsin vs. Alabama

ESPN College GameDay picks for Wisconsin vs. Alabama

The entire ESPN “College GameDay” staff picked No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide to roll against the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday.

The extended panel included Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, Desmond Howard and guest picker South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley.

There is a common thought that when the entire GameDay panel picks the same team to win, it gives the other team a better chance. That is one of the weird superstitions related to the sport. In this case, it favors the Badgers.

Wisconsin and Alabama will kick off at noon ET (11 a.m. CT) on Fox. The Badgers are in search of the first signature win of the Luke Fickell era, while the Crimson Tide are looking to start 3-0 under new head coach Kalen DeBoer.

The college football world is focused on Madison, Wisconsin, this afternoon. The Badgers have a chance for a program-defining upset.

College Station shatters several College GameDay records to open Texas A&M football season

The 12th Man is widely known as one of the best fan bases in college and the rest of the country got a reminder of that this past weekend.

The 12th Man is widely known across the SEC as one of the best college fan bases and the rest of the country got a reminder of that on Saturday.

Prior to the Texas A&M football team opening the season with a 23-13 loss against Notre Dame, College GameDay came to College Station and multiple records were broken. Aggieland quickly proved why the ESPN staple needs to return in November for the Lone Star Showdown versus the Longhorns.

Aggies, Fighting Irish and general college fans tuned in across the nation, setting records for the “Worldwide Leader in Sports.” With 2.5 million average viewers and 3.2 million in the final hour of the program, College GameDay set a new benchmark for the most-watched pre-November episode of all time.

Additionally, it was the most-watched regular season episode since November 2016.  Per ESPN PR, the viewership was up 47% compared to Week 1 last year.

Despite nearly the entire panel, including Johnny Manziel and Pat McAfee, picking Texas A&M to win a game which they ultimately didn’t, Aggieland certainly showed out to kickoff the Mike Elko era.
