Who is Lawrence Cager’s NFL player comparison?

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Lawrence Cager, a transfer from Miami, projects as a mid-late round NFL Draft selection.

The Georgia Bulldogs really benefited from the transfer of former Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Lawrence Cager in 2019. The struggle was real for UGA without his as the Dawgs lost both their games when he was injured or limited.

Cager is a dominant possession receiver, who should succeed at winning jump balls at the NFL level. Cager was a joy to watch in Athens and NFL.com compares him to current Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Justin Watson.

Justin Watson played college football at the University of Pennsylvania. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him in the 5th round of the 2018 NFL Draft. That’s around where Lawrence Cager is projected to be selected. Cager has some medical issues entering the combine and must run a fast 40 yard dash.

Watson caught 15 passes for 159 yards and a pair of TDs for Tampa Bay this season. Will Cager have success like Watson in the NFL? Cager can immediately make an impact in the red zone, but much of his production will depend on quarterback play.

Tim Tebow: Lawrence Cager injury is ‘drastic’ loss for UGA football

Tim Tebow thinks that Georgia football will suffer from the loss of Lawrence Cager.

Georgia wide receiver Lawrence Cager will miss UGA’s next two games after suffering an ankle injury in practice this week.

Not exactly what a team with a struggling offense needs. College football analyst Tim Tebow believes this is a huge loss for the Dawgs, who will need to score points vs LSU.

“I think it’s drastic,” Tebow said on SportsCenter. “The number one problem this year is they haven’t had receivers that can separate. They haven’t been able to do it in big-time games, and I think that’s really hurt the offense. They have a great offensive line. They have a great quarterback and running game, but they don’t have receivers who can win man-to-man coverage. And now, you’ve lost by far your best receiver in Cager. So, this is where someone is going to have to step up. If Georgia is going to win an SEC Championship and contend for a national championship, George Pickens, (Dominick) Blaylock and (Demetris) Robertson have to step up and be that guy. There’s still a chance for them because their defense is also one of the best in the country.”

It is a significant loss indeed, and as Tebow said, the Dawgs’ younger receivers will have to step up to the challenge in order to replace Cager’s production.

Georgia football’s Lawrence Cager likely out for SEC Championship

Georgia football’s Lawrence Cager is likely out for 2019 SEC Championship against the LSU Tigers. Cager suffered an ankle injury.

Georgia Bulldog star wide receiver Lawrence Cager is likely out for the SEC Championship Game against the LSU Tigers. Cager suffered an ankle injury this past week in practice. Cager, a transfer from Miami, has made a big impact on UGA’s passing attack and is one of the best players in the nation at the jump ball.

Georgia will need Jake Fromm, George Pickens, and more to step up. It’ll be Georgia’s only hope of making the College Football Playoff. Cager posted an emotional message to his Instagram account:

Georgia wouldn’t be 10-1 without Cager, who score clutch second half touchdowns in the Florida and Notre Dame games. It remains to be seen if Cager could suit up for the Playoffs, but let’s be honest, the SEC Championship Game is a de facto playoff game.

Cager has 476 receiving yards and four touchdowns on the season. He was dealing with a shoulder and rib injury before suffering the most recent ankle issue. Best of luck to Cager in his recovery!

Report: Georgia football WR Lawrence Cager suffers injury in practice

Georgia WR Lawrence Cager suffered a lower-body injury in practice on Wednesday according to a report from Dean Legge of DawgPost.

Georgia wide receiver Lawrence Cager suffered a lower-body injury in practice on Wednesday, according to a report from Dean Legge of DawgPost.

Cager is no stranger to injuries this season, having appeared sporadically in recent contests due to lingering shoulder injuries.

Per Legge, the graduate transfer out of The University of Miami is doubtful for the 2019 edition of “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” held in Atlanta. Head coach Kirby Smart isn’t due for a media appearance until after the game at Georgia Tech and UGA officials have yet to confirm whether Cager was hurt.

The Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets are set to kick off at noon.

Georgia football HC Kirby Smart on why Lawrence Cager did not play Saturday

georgia football HC Kirby Smart discussed why wide receiver Lawrence Cager did not play vs the Texas A&M Aggies.

Georgia football wide receiver Lawrence Cager dressed out for Saturday’s game vs Texas A&M but did not see the field.

He has been in pain all season after separating his shoulder against Tennessee.

Multiple times, he has re-aggravated that shoulder throughout the season, including early on in last week’s win at Auburn.

With a big game on the horizon vs LSU in the SEC Championship, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs need a healthy Cager, who has been Jake Fromm’s go-to receiver when healthy.

Smart discussed Cager’s injury and why he was held out of the game on Saturday.

“We thought he’d be able to go. He practiced during the week. He was obviously not 100 percent during the week, and we wanted to see him go in warm-ups and cut it loose. We didn’t feel that he could,” Smart said. “It’s one of those deals where you say, ‘Why don’t you just shut him down?’

Well, shutting him down doesn’t necessarily get him healthy either. He doesn’t take the hits and pounding during the week. So he’s helping to take a little mileage off the other guys, and also staying fresh in the offense. Sometimes when you step away you get away. It’s not his legs that are tired; it’s his injury. He just didn’t feel comfortable that he could go, and it was tough conditions. We knew it would be tough conditions. Having a healthy guy out there helps.”

This season, Cager is Georgia’s leading receiver despite missing significant time with his injury.

He currently has 33 catches for 476 yards and four touchdowns.

True freshman George Pickens is closing in on Cager. Pickens has 32 catches for 457 yards and five touchdowns.

Georgia football HC Kirby Smart talks Lawrence Cager, OL injuries

Ahead of the Georgia football game vs Texas A&M, Kirby Smart discussed the injury of Lawrence Cager and some offensive linemen.

Georgia is at the point in the season where it’s not a matter of whether or not a player is injured, but whether or not he is able play through it.

After Georgia’s physical game against Auburn, which the Dawgs won 21-14 on the road, UGA will look to heal up as much as possible ahead of its final SEC matchup with Texas A&M on Saturday.

Wide receiver Lawrence Cager left the Auburn game in the first quarter after making just one catch.

On Saturday, Smart discussed the injury, which came to the shoulder that has been bothering Cager all season.

“He took a shot, and it bothered him. He took a shot on the (fourth) play of the game I think, maybe, and it started bothering him.”

On Monday, Smart updated Cager’s status.

“Cager will be cleared to practice, it will just be a matter of if he can sustain,” Smart said.

Versatile offensive lineman Cade Mays was able to play for a portion of the game, but eventually had to be held out.

“Cade is banged up — don’t think he’s going to be able to practice today, but we think he’s going to be able to play and he’s going to be able to hopefully practice Tuesday.”

Mays left the Missouri game the week before with an ankle injury.

“(Mays) is a little beat up, (and) we knew that going into the game, he’s got some soreness, and he’s fighting through it.,” Smart said.

On fellow offensive lineman Ben Cleveland, Smart mentioned that he missed some practice last week with a toe injury but is hopeful that the big man will be able to play vs Texas A&M.

“Ben (Cleveland) is still fighting the injury bug, too, on lower extremity. We’re hopeful he’s able to go.”
