Lauren Betts named to Albany 2 All-Regional team in NCAA Tournament alongside Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese

Congrats to Lauren Betts after a massive NCAA Tournament run.

The NCAA women’s tournament continued on Monday in the Elite Eight with Iowa and LSU facing off and UConn and USC facing off.

During the Iowa-LSU game in the Albany 2 regional, it was announced that UCLA Bruins star Lauren Betts was named to the Albany 2 Regional All-Tournament team.

The other four members were all a part of the LSU-Iowa game and they are as follows:

  • Caitlin Clark, Iowa
  • Sydney Affolter, Iowa
  • Angel Reese, LSU
  • Flau’jae Johnson, LSU

Betts had a terrific run in the tournament despite missing the Round of 64 game against 15-seed California Baptist. Betts had 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Creighton and then 14 points with 17 rebounds and four blocks in the Sweet 16 loss to LSU.

Betts got emotional after the loss to LSU and for good reason, but if she returns to UCLA next season, she will be a massive player to watch as the Bruins make their way to the Big Ten Conference.

Lauren Betts gets emotional on UCLA seniors after Sweet 16 loss

Lauren betts is going to miss the seniors.

It was an emotional day for the UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team. Their season came to an end with a loss to LSU in the Sweet 16.

After the game, star center Lauren Betts talked about the impact the seniors have had on the team and what it will be like without them going forward:

“The seniors mean a lot to me…I think this year’s been a struggle for me specifically… I can’t thank the seniors enough for what they’ve done for me…I’m so thankful for her…I know they are going to do really big things and I’m so proud of them.”

Betts had another strong game with 14 points and 17 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as LSU came out on top. Assuming Betts will be back, she should be the central point of the UCLA team once again, but losing the seniors is going to have a tough impact and be a difficult obstacle to overcome for this team.

Lauren Betts and Charisma Osborne named to Pac-12 All-Defensive team

Lauren Betta and Charisma Osborne earned Pac-12 All-Defensive team nods.

As the UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team prepared for the NCAA Tournament, a couple of their players earned some big recognition.

Both Lauren Betts and Charisma Osborne were named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive team at the end of the season.

The other members of the Pac-12 All-Defensive team include Cameron Brink from Stanford, Helena Pueyo from Arizona, and Jaylyn Sherrod from Colorado, so it is a talented team all the way around.

Betts has been the most valuable player for UCLA all year long, and when she missed the March Madness opener against California Baptist, there was cause for concern.

In Betts’ absence, Osborne made noise and nearly had a triple-double in the win and certainly showed her worth once again for Cori Close’s team.

This marked the second such award for Osborne and the first for Betts as both players continue to add hardware to their collections.

The Angel Reese-Lauren Betts duel will be worth watching

Get your popcorn ready for Angel Reese vs. Lauren Betts.

UCLA and LSU are set to face off in a Sweet 16 battle in the women’s NCAA Tournament. This game has been discussed a lot, and for good reason.

Angel Reese and Lauren Betts going against each other is aragubaly the best matchup of this game, and Will Rosenblatt of LSU Wire examined the rebounding matchup between these two teams:

UCLA leads the sport in rebounding rate with LSU sitting second.

On the offensive glass, LSU leads the way with UCLA ranking third. Together, the two combine to average 90 rebounds per game.

For UCLA, Lauren Betts leads the way with nine rebounds per game but it’s the rebounding depth that sets them apart. Five qualified Bruins average five or more rebounds per game and have rebounding rates over 10%.

But when it comes to pure ability, LSU has the best rebounder in this game with Angel Reese. Her 13.2 per game ranks second nationally. Throw in Aneesah Morrow’s 10 per game, and you get the best rebounding duo in the country.

Betts missed the first game of the NCAA Tournament against California Baptist but returned with a stellar performance in the win over Creighton. Now, she and Reese will go head-to-head in a must-watch battle of star players.

UCLA star Lauren Betts appears on episode of ‘Days Off’

UCLA Bruins women’s basketball star just posted a double-double in the NCAA Tournament and led her team to a Sweet 16 trip with a win over Creighton.

UCLA next faces LSU in a thrilling Sweet 16 showdown.

Whistle has a new ‘Days Off’ episode with Lauren Betts, and the Bruins center gave a lot of interesting information in the episode. ‘Days Off’ is an original series profiling athletes and others on their days off, so Betts discussed in detail what an off day looks like for her.
Betts talked about spending time with her teammates and other activities she does during her days off.
Here is the full video to watch.

Betts will be the main focus for UCLA as they try and win over Angel Reese and LSU on Saturday morning. If so, they will face either Colorado or Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the Elite Eight.

UCLA and LSU play on Saturday at 10 AM PST in Albany.

Cori Close ‘hopeful’ for Lauren Betts return as UCLA faces Creighton

Lauren Betts injury is “nothing major.”

The UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team got a bit of a surprise as Lauren Betts did not suit up for the NCAA Tournament opener against 15-seed California Baptist.

However, the Bruins had no issues and cruised to an 84-55 victory to move on to the Round of 32.

While Betts being injured to kick off March Madness is a huge concern, Cori Close gave a crucial update after the game, per Gavin Carlson of The Daily Bruin:

Cori Close called Lauren Betts’ absence “nothing major” and says the team is “hopeful” she’ll be back on Monday against No. 7 seed Creighton.

That is terrific news for the Bruins as they are one win away from a trip to the Sweet 16. Betts is averaging 14.7 PPG with nine rebounds and is an important part of the roster.

UCLA faces 7-seed Creighton on Monday night, and it sure sounds as of Betts will be able to suit up for that game.

Lauren Betts, two other UCLA players named to Naismith women’s midseason list

Lauren Betts, Kiki Rice, and Charisma Osborne all named to Naismith midseason list.

The UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team lost to Oregon State but defeated Oregon in a tough weekend up north. The Oregon State loss was a heartbreaker on a buzzer-beater, and they proceeded to fall out of the top 10 in the latest rankings.

However, there is some good news for UCLA as three players were named to the Naismith Women’s College midseason list. All of Lauren Betts, Charisma Osborne, and Kiki Rice were named to the watch list.

Betts is arguably UCLA’s most important player, and she was the leading scorer in the Bruins win over Oregon, which gave them their 20th victory of the season.

Osborne just wrote her name into the UCLA record books against Oregon State, and Kiki Rice recently received her very own Jordan shoe, so each player is doing big things for the Bruins.

The Bruins enter the week 20-5 and have a tough home game against No. 18 Utah on Thursday night.

Lauren Betts leads UCLA past Oregon as Bruins notch 20th win

Lauren Betts led the way again as UCLA defeated Oregon on the road.

The UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team suffered a crushing loss on Friday night as Oregon State won on a buzzer-beater.

On Sunday, UCLA got back in the win column with an easy victory over Oregon on the road. Lauren Betts paced the way for UCLA with 19 points and nine rebounds as they cruised to a 74-55 win in Eugene.

Three other UCLA players had double figures in the game and four starters were able to play less than 30 minutes as they got some well-needed rest.

UCLA had a commanding 45-28 lead at halftime before taking its foot off the gas in the final two quarters.

Lauren Betts was everywhere on Sunday for UCLA as the Bruins star continues to show how good of a player she is.

UCLA now has notched its 20th win of the year and it will be interesting to see how the rankings move them going into the last stretch of the regular season.

USC-UCLA game preview: Meet Bruin center Lauren Betts

Lauren Betts will be a matchup problem for USC.

The USC Trojans face the UCLA Bruins in a top-five women’s basketball showdown on Saturday to begin Pac-12 Conference play.

Lindsay Gottlieb’s team has its biggest test of the year, and we will profile some individual players for the Bruins so that you’re aware of what USC is up against in Pauley Pavilion.

The leading scorer for the Bruins is sophomore center Lauren Betts, who is averaging an eye-popping 16.9 points per game with 9.2 rebounds this season and has been a tough task for every opponent UCLA has faced.

After averaging just 9.6 minutes per game in her freshman year at Stanford, she transferred south to Westwood. She has become a star for the Bruins. She has three double-doubles in her last five games and has scored 15 or more in all five of those, including 22 points with 18 rebounds in a victory over Florida State on December 10.

Her numbers this year have been impressive, and she is making her mark as one of the best centers in college basketball.

She began the year with three 20-plus-point performances in the Bruins’ first four games. She has a grand total of six double-doubles this season, so more than half of the games she has played.

In terms of individual player matchups, Betts will be the toughest challenge for USC on Saturday.

Who is still in the transfer portal that might make sense for the Iowa Hawkeyes?

Fresh off a trip to the national title game, Iowa wants to retool. Here’s several transfer portal targets the Hawkeyes should consider.

What an offseason this has been for women’s college basketball.

After one of the greatest tournaments in history, the race is on for these teams to reach even bigger heights in 2023-24. A number of top players hit the portal this offseason, looking more like the football version of the transfer portal.

From established stars Hailey Van Lith and Aneesah Morrow to talented youngsters waiting for a breakout such as Lauren Betts, there’s something for everyone in the portal!

Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes, they haven’t brought in anyone yet even though some of the portal’s top players have made their way to greener pastures.

Just like one of the worst snubs in American Idol history Chris Daughtry said in his hit song “It’s Not Over,” it is definitely not over yet for the Hawkeyes. There are many talented players still looking for a new home to ply their trade. Plenty of potential Hawkeyes out there!

As we get ready to leave the month of April, here is an updated look at the crazy women’s college basketball transfer portal.
