Chiefs elevate replacement kicker ahead of Week 13 matchup vs. Raiders

The Kansas City #Chiefs elevated a kicker from their practice squad on Thursday.

The Kansas City Chiefs have dealt with significant adversity due to injuries all season, and with a Week 13 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders scheduled on Black Friday, the defending Super Bowl champions are set to rely on Matthew Wright to be their starting kicker.

Wright signed a practice squad contract with the Chiefs earlier this week after Spencer Shrader suffered a hamstring injury that affected his ability to practice.

Shrader was a replacement himself and was initially acquired by Kansas City after Harrison Butker was placed on the Chiefs’ injured reserve list earlier this month.

See the team’s official announcement about Wright’s elevation below:

Wright previously played with Kansas City in 2022, when he was a part of the Chiefs’ run to Super Bowl LVII and played collegiately at the University of Central Florida, where he holds the school’s all-time scoring record.

Stay tuned to see how long Wright will maintain his role as Kansas City’s starting kicker.

Chiefs activate two stars from injured reserve, both expected to play in Week 13 vs. Raiders

The Kansas City #Chiefs will get some significant reinforcements for their Week 13 matchup against the Las Vegas #Raiders on Black Friday.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be getting some much-needed reinforcements in Week 13 for their matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday.

In a post to Twitter on Thursday, the Chiefs announced that they had officially activated running back Isiah Pacheco and defensive lineman Charles Omenihu from their injured reserve list, paving the way for Kansas City’s stars to make a triumphant return to the field.

Pacheco was injured in Week 2 during the Chiefs’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Omenihu suffered a knee injury during Kansas City’s playoff run earlier this year and has not yet seen action in the Chiefs’ 2024 campaign.

It is unclear what role Pacheco and Omenihu will play for Kansas City in Week 13, but the Chiefs will benefit from their return, even if the team decides to ease the veterans back into action.

Stay tuned to see how Pacheco and Omenihu factor into Kansas City’s game plan for the Raiders.

Raiders strongest position will be at full strength for first time in 2 months vs Chiefs

No position on the Raiders was expected to be more a factor in their success this season than the tight end position. They made it a priority in the 2023 draft, a priority in 2024 free agency, and their top priority in the 2024 draft. But the trio …

No position on the Raiders was expected to be more a factor in their success this season than the tight end position. They made it a priority in the 2023 draft, a priority in 2024 free agency, and their top priority in the 2024 draft. But the trio of tight ends they acquired have barely seen the field together this season.

Friday in Kansas City they take the field together for the first time in more than two months.

Brock Bowers was the team’s pick at 13 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and he has been on an historic pace this season for a rookie tight end. Or really for any rookie or at any position. But he’s done it without either of the two tight ends who were supposed to make the position one of the more formidable in the league.

Last year’s drafted tight end — who the Raiders traded up to get in the second round — Michael Mayer left after the team’s week three loss to the Carolina Panthers and was placed on the Non-Football Illness list.

By the time Mayer returned in week 11, following the team’s bye week, Harrison Bryant was lost to injury. Bryant had been among the team’s priority free agent acquisitions this offseason after four seasons in Cleveland.

Thursday, Bryant, was removed from the Raiders’ injury report, making him available for the game for the first time in since he went down with injury in week nine in Cincinnati. And thus having this trio of tight ends available for the first time since September 22.

No time like the present as they face the rival Chiefs and their future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce.

Patrick Mahomes launches Adidas shoe line for son Bronze’s birthday

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes helped design his new line of Adidas shoes with his son Bronze in mind.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has crafted an incredible partnership with Adidas since joining the league and now his son Bronze is joining him.

Adidas has been a proud supporter of Mahomes since the former Texas Tech standout was drafted by the Chiefs in 2017, and the German brand also plays a role as the Red Raiders’ athletic sponsor.

On Monday, Mahomes announced his newest line of shoes with Adidas, which were designed with Bronze’s second birthday in mind.

Kansas City’s signal-caller celebrated his son’s birthday with a win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and hopes to continue the Chiefs’ run of dominance against the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday.

Take a look at the promo video, which Mahomes posted on Twitter:

Stay tuned to see when these shoes will become available for purchase, and expect Mahomes to sport them at some point in the coming weeks as the Chiefs make their push toward a third consecutive Super Bowl title.

Raiders send 2 starters to injured reserve, add 4 to active roster Week 13 vs Chiefs

Raiders made several moves including sending Gardner Minshew and Jakorian Bennett to IR and adding four others to face the Chiefs Week 13.

Early Thanksgiving Day, the Raiders took care of quite a bit of business. First they sent starting quarterback Gardner Minshew along with starting cornerback Jakorian Bennett to injured reserve.

Minshew broke his collarbone late in the team loss to the Denver Broncos last week. His season is done.

Bennett suffered a shoulder injury on the second play of the team’s game in Miami in week 11 and missed the Broncos game last week. He will be out at least the next four weeks which means should he return this season, he would be eligible to play the final two games of the season.

In corresponding moves, the Raiders officially activated QB Aidan O’Connell from injured reserve and signed practice squad WR Terrace Marshall to the active roster.

O’Connell will start vs the Chiefs on Friday, He had been out the past four games with an injured thumb. While Marshall has been on the team’s practice squad since October 22, appearing in one game this season so far.

Additionally, the Raiders elevated CB Kyu Blu Kelly and RB Sincere McCormick from the practice squad. McCormick in particular played well enough last week against the Broncos to earn more snaps this week.

‘Records go out the window’: Raiders face Chiefs with ‘chaos’ in mind

The Raiders were the last team to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead. They will look to do it again on Friday by sowing a little chaos.

It wasn’t a year ago a 6-8 Raiders team that had already lost big time to the Chiefs went into Arrowhead and beat a 9-5 Chiefs team. So, if anyone should know not to anticipate what is going to happen this Sunday in Kansas City, it’s the Chiefs.

“Records go out the window, just like they did last year when we played them on Christmas Day,” said Pierce. “So they understand that, we understand that. They’ll be excited, just like we will be excited for this game. Only two teams playing that day, right? It’s a great opportunity for us to showcase what’s improved about the Raiders, right? What’s different, what’s going to change, and obviously we got a chance to do that at two o’clock.

“The rivalry is what it is. I think if you look at the last couple games, we’ve played them close. It’s been back and forth, and it’s been physical, and they’re going to come after us. We know them, they know us, and there’s a lot of trash talking. And they don’t like the color of Silver and Black, and we don’t like red. So, it should be fun.”

Antonio Pierce had been on the job as interim head coach in Las Vegas for seven weeks when he took a revitalized Raiders team into Arrowhead and shocked the world by leaving with a 20-14 win.

What no one knew at the time was that the Chiefs would then go on to win the Super Bowl and not lose again until ten games into the 2024 season. They now sit at 10-1 looking like they could be headed for another championship. But that’s for later. They have to get through Black Friday first.

“Llet’s call a spade a spade,” Pierce said of the matchup. “The best team in football against the worst team in football. Let’s change the narrative, right? Let’s go out there and make it a dog fight. Let’s make it ugly. Let’s make it scrappy. It’s Black Friday. Let’s create a little chaos. Let’s get back to Raider football and have some fun and some personality. Let it loose.”

This season, the Chiefs may have the best record, but they haven’t been blowing teams out. Only two of their ten wins have been by more than one score. And one of those one-score wins was their 27-20 game against the Raiders. So, they’re not unbeatable. Even thought it took the second best team in the league to hand them their lone defeat.

Facing a 2-9 Raiders team currently on a seven-game losing streak would be what they commonly refer to as a trap game. Although, that’s usually when a team overlooks an opponent. And it’s hard to imagine the Chiefs doing that for this one.

Chiefs vs. Raiders Week 13: How to watch, listen and stream

See everything you need to know to watch the Kansas City #Chiefs’ Week 13 matchup against the Las Vegas #Raiders on Black Friday.

The Kansas City Chiefs got back in the win column after a gutsy victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, and are headed back home to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday in Week 13.

For a second straight week, the Chiefs’ defense struggled to make consistent stops, and Panthers quarterback Bryce Young arguably played his best game of the season and took full advantage of Kansas City’s struggling secondary.

Raiders starting quarterback Gardner Minshew is out for the season after sustaining an injury in Week 12, so Friday’s game presents the perfect opportunity for the Chiefs to continue bouncing back against an opponent that will start the game on the ropes.

Karl Mecklenburg: Broncos outplayed Raiders in all three phases

Karl Mecklenburg: “Once Bo Nix settled in, the Broncos were able to take advantage of the one-on-one pass coverage that blitzing dictates.”

The Broncos beat their longtime rivals the Oakland, LA, Oakland, Las Vegas Raiders, by hanging around in the first half, and taking it to the Raiders in the second half. The Raiders came out blitzing on defense, which isn’t their normal game plan. They blitzed to stop the run and pressure the Broncos rookie quarterback into making mistakes. That’s usually a good game plan against rookie quarterbacks, but once Bo Nix settled in, the Broncos were able to take advantage of the one-on-one pass coverage that blitzing dictates.

Wil Lutz and the recently maligned field goal team came through with 5 made field goals in the game.

Denver’s defense played the entire game without their top defensive lineman Zach Allen, and lost rookie cornerback Riley Moss in the second half. Allen’s pressure up the middle was missed throughout the game, and it would have been nice to have Moss in the game when the Raiders tried to make a 4th quarter comeback. The Broncos defense kept them in the game early and came up with turnovers to help seal the win. This was a team win, on the road, against a division opponent. All three phases of the Broncos outplayed their Raider counterparts.

As the season winds down, the Broncos’ schedule is going to get goofy. They play Monday night and then they have their bye. They also got flexed into a Thursday night slot against the Chargers. These changes will mess with the rhythm of a team’s normal weekly practice schedule. How do you handle schedule changes? In the NFL meetings and practices are planned out ahead of time. If anything changes, and adjustments are needed, everyone is notified as early as possible and reminded repeatedly. Hopefully the Broncos will rise above the disruption and continue their push to the playoffs. Go Broncos!

Will Isiah Pacheco play this week? Injury updates for Chiefs RB

#Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco is dealing with a leg injury. Here are the latest updates.

Isiah Pacheco was on a hot streak as the Kansas City Chiefs’ leading rusher before his season came to an abrupt halt when he fractured a fibula in the defending Super Bowl champions’ Week 12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Will Pacheco be ready to make his comeback on Black Friday when the Chiefs take on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13?

Isiah Pacheco injury update

While Pacheco has maintained his designation for return from Kansas City’s injured reserve list, he was a full participant in both of the Chiefs’ practices on Tuesday and Wednesday, and may finally be activated in Week 13.

When asked about Pacheco and defensive lineman Charles Omenihu, who has also been designated to return from injured reserve, head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Wednesday that:

“I mean, as long as they’re (Isiah Pacheco and Charles Omenihu) okay. We’ll check on it again today, I’ve been trying to take it day-by-day. If they’re good after today then we’ll play them, yep.”

How long will Isiah Pacheco be out?

It is unclear how much more time Pacheco might need to miss if he is unable to return to the field in Week 13.

Chiefs RB depth chart

In Pachecho’s absence, Kansas City has primarily relied on Kareem Hunt to lead its ground game. Samaje Perine, Carson Steele, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire will also be available to play against Las Vegas.
