Former Raiders G Richie Incognito: ‘There’s only one Mad Maxx’ Crosby

Richie Incognito: ‘There’s only one Mad Maxx’

To be a great NFL player, you have to be able to adjust on the fly and make quick decisions. Sometimes that applies off the field as well.

So, the other day when Maxx Crosby was asked about whether one of the Raiders players had some Richie Incognito in him, he didn’t hesitate in his answer. And it was the correct answer; “There’s only one Richie Incognito”

As it happens, I had a chance to catch up with Incognito Sunday as he is among several former Raiders players in attendance for alumni weekend.

First off, he said that Maxx was right; there is only one Richie Incognito. But there is also only one Maxx Crosby.

“There’s only one Mad Maxx,” said Incognito, who joined the Raiders the same offseason Crosby was drafted. “You watch him go out there and play with that effort and that passion. There’s very few guys out there that can go out there and transcend the game and transcend everything that we have to deal with to go out there and put on a performance like that. So, I love watching Maxx, because I play with passion and Maxx plays with a tremendous amount of passion and effort and it’s great to see.”

Two two spent three training camps competing with each other on the offensive and defensive lines respectively. The work ethic and relentlessness we have all come to associate with Maxx impressed Incognito as well.

“I remember pulling over there and whacking him on a counter play and I’m hitting him and I’m hitting him and I’m like ‘Man, this kid just keeps coming back’,” Incognito recounted from when Crosby was a rookie. “Because I’m bringing it and he wasn’t too big back then. I kept bringing it and it really started to click for me when we used to do pass rush drills and you saw Maxx putting it together. . . You really see the signs that this guy could be a premiere pass rusher.”

The 13-years NFL veteran had plenty of wisdom to impart on Crosby about work ethic. But it was obviously pretty early that Crosby brought plenty of that with him into the building. Though having a veteran example like Incognito could only help.

Josh Norman shines in Bills debut: ‘I’ll do it, I’ll make a play’

Activated just yesterday, Norman certainly made his presence felt almost immediately.

During the offseason, the Bills added depth to their secondary by signing veteran cornerback Josh Norman.

Many had written Norman off after a less than spectacular tenure in Washington, but Norman decided to come to Buffalo and attempt to prove the doubters wrong. In signing with the Bills, Norman joined Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott, who Norman had his greatest success under back in Carolina with the Panthers.

After an injury caused him to end up on the injured reserve list to start the season, Norman told the media via video conference. “I was up in a box, pissed off.” Activated just a day prior to the game, due to the new COVID-19 rules, Norman certainly made his presence felt almost immediately.

When cornerback Levi Wallace had to leave the game with an ankle injury early, it was Norman’s time to shine.

With the Bills leading by only seven points in the fourth quarter, Norman made perhaps the defensive play of the game, knocking the ball out of TE Darren Waller’s hands and recovering his own fumble:

“Coach told us somebody needed to make a play,” Norman said. “So I told myself, I’ll do it, I’ll make a play.”

The Bills ended up feeding off of that momentum and driving down the field to score a touchdown that ended up being the difference in the game.

In his own interesting way, Norman described his excitement to finally being able to help the Bills defense.

“Guys really invited me to the party,” Norman said. “It was one of those things, they was having a pizza party and I was like, ‘Shoot I’m knocking on the door, y’all not gonna let me in?’ So I had to kick it down.”

Norman’s teammates were also thankful for his return to the field.

“I don’t know if we win the game without him,” wide receiver Cole Beasley said.

Running Devin Singletary also explained how excited the team was when Norman was able to jar the ball loose for the fumble, telling the media that everyone was, “crunk” on the sideline.

Sean McDermott seemed to agree with Beasley’s assessment of Norman’s importance.

“Josh Norman brings the same dog mentality (Stefon) Diggs does,” McDermott said after the game. “It affected the defense in a major way in the second half of this game.”

While the offense has certainly been the story through the first four games of the season, despite their struggles, the defense headlined by Norman was a big part of getting the job done on Sunday vs. the Raiders.

Norman concluded his media availability by telling reporters that he has a new appreciation for the game since arriving in Buffalo.

“I’m just glad to be apart of this,” Norman said. “We’re 4-0 and you can’t have a better feeling than this.”

While the Bills have one all-pro CB in Tre’Davious White, perhaps a career resurgence for the 32-year old Norman, isn’t as farfetched as some had originally thought.

Henry Ruggs III, Jerry Jeudy projected to lead rookies in receiving yards for 2020

Two former Alabama receivers, Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy, are projected to lead all rookies in 2020 in receiving yards.

The 2020 NFL draft stole two of Alabama’s most impactful members on the offensive side of the ball. They are now expected to lead rookies from across the league in receiving yards throughout the 2020 season.

Henry Ruggs III was not expected to be the first receiver selected, it was supposedly a race between fellow Alabama product Jerry Jeudy and Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb. However, with the No. 12 overall selection, the Las Vegas Raiders selected the speedy Alabama native.

The second wide receiver to be drafted was Jeudy at No. 15 by the Denver Broncos.

Both receivers have been expected to make an immediate impact on their respective team, but Pro Football Focus finally gave fans something tangible to discuss. Projected season totals for receiving yards.

Alabama continues their strong case for claiming the title “WRU,” by having the top two players on the projection be Ruggs and Jeudy.

While LSU’s Justin Jefferson is projected to be third by the end of 2020 with 624.3 yards, Jeudy has him beat with 672.6 yards, almost thirty more.

The real interesting number belongs to the No. 1 spot, Ruggs. He is projected to end his rookie regular season wit 702.1 yards. that’s 30 more than Jeudy in second place, and almost 60 more than Jefferson in third.

Both wide receivers were nationally recognized during their times at Alabama, it will now be a totally different ballgame as they transition to playing at the professional level.
