2024 Pennzoil 400: What you need to know

  • Penske Racing’s Joey Logano earned the pole position for Sunday’s race with a best speed of 184.357 mph in qualifying
  • Logano has won at LVMS 3 times in 21 career Cup starts, posting 7 top-5 runs and 12 top-10s with 536 laps led and 0 DNFs, good for a 10.0 Average-Finish Position (AFP)
  • Logano teammate Austin Cindric posted a best speed of 184.093 mph to qualify for the 3rd spot in the starting grid. He has a 6th-place finish as his best run in 4 Cup starts, posting a 19.3 AFP

  • Front Row Motorsports driver Michael McDowell has never finished higher than 17th at LVMS in 20 career Cup starts, posting a dismal 29.4 AFP

2024 Pennzoil 400 – Expert pick

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 10:53 p.m. ET.

JOEY LOGANO (+800) starts on the pole, and Las Vegas is one of the tracks where qualifying really matters. In 7 of the previous 8 races, the winner at Las Vegas has started 9th or higher.

Logano won the fall race in October 2022 with a 130.480 mph average speed, going off from the 5th position. In his 3 starts, he has started 10th or better. He is a much better value than playing Kyle Larson (+350), who is the chalk.

2024 Pennzoil 400 – Contender

RCR’s KYLE BUSCH (+1800) struggled by his standards early in his career at Las Vegas, his home track. He has started to piece things together lately, but he hasn’t had a win at the track in a Cup car since March 2009. At this price, and with his Average-Finish Position, he is a strong play. Also, make sure to play his top-10 prop, which is still a value.

2024 Pennzoil 400 prop picks

KYLE BUSCH TOP-10 FINISH (-120)

For bettors not interested in playing Busch for the outright win, he is a solid value for a top-10 run.

In 25 career Cup starts, he has finished inside the top 10 on 15 different occasions, which is a 60.0% conversion rate. That’s a pretty strong success rate for this price.

AUSTIN CINDRIC TOP-10 FINISH (+240)

We took Cindric last week for a top-10 finish in Atlanta, and he more than came through, ending up 4th when the dust clear, right behind the triumvirate of Suarez, teammate Ryan Blaney and Busch, who were 1-2-3 in a photo finish for the checkered flag. For the chance to more than double up, Cindric is a steal.

2023 South Point 400 odds, picks and predictions

Looking at the odds for Sunday’s 2023 South Point 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Road Course, with NASCAR expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The NASCAR Cup Series heads to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the 2023 South Point 400 Sunday afternoon. The green flag is set to drop shortly after 2:30 p.m. ET (NBC). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the 2023 South Point 400 odds, and make our expert NASCAR picks and predictions.

2023 South Point 400: What you need to know

  • Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell claimed the Busch Light Pole for Sunday’s race with a best speed of 186.335 mph, edging out Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson (186.271 mph)
  • Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron won the 1st Cup Series race at Las Vegas in March, and he has managed a 16.3 Average-Finish Position (AFP) in 11 career Cup starts at LVMS. Byron starts 3rd Sunday
  • JGR’s Martin Truex Jr. has a pair of Cup checkered flags at Las Vegas under his belt in 23 career starts, while posting a 10.0 AFP. He’ll go off 4th on Sunday
  • Team Penske’s Joey Logano has 3 wins at Las Vegas, while posting 7 top-5 runs and 12 top-10 finishes in his 20 Cup starts, while leading 536 laps and no DNFs. He starts in the 9th spot
  • Logano’s teammate, Ryan Blaney, is the best driver in the field without a Cup win at LVMS. He has a solid 12.4 AFP in 14 career Cup starts, while finishing inside the Top 10 on 8 occasions
  • Toyota’s last win at Vegas came on Sept. 26, 2021, when JGR’s Denny Hamlin raced to victory. It was his only win in 23 career Cup starts at the track, although he has a solid 12.8 AFP
  • 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace has 11 career starts at Las Vegas, posting a dismal 22.8 AFP with 2 DNFs
  • Stewart-Haas Racing’s Daniel Suarez has registered a poor 21.2 AFP in 12 career Cup starts at LVMS with 1 DNF
  • Last week’s winner on the ROVAL, Kaulig Racing’s A.J. Allmendinger, has a 20.6 AFP in 12 Cup tries at Vegas

2023 South Point 400 – Expert pick

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 10:40 p.m. ET.

DENNY HAMLIN (+800) is a nice value, as he looks to punch his ticket to the NASCAR Cup playoffs Final 4 drivers. He is the last driver of a Toyota to bring home checkers, and he has a tremendous 12.8 AFP in 23 career Cup starts with 6 top-5 runs and 11 top-10 finishes.

Hamlin always seems to bring his best effort in the playoffs, positioning himself for a chance in the championship race in the end. This is his golden opportunity to secure his spot, as he has fared well over the years at LVMS.

2023 South Point 400 – Long shot

RYAN BLANEY (+2000) isn’t your typical long, long shot, but these odds are substantially higher than the other contenders.

While the Team Penske driver has never won at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, there is no better time than right now. He is 8th in the playoff standings, and in need of making a move to keep his championship hopes alive. He has managed 5 top-5 runs and 8 top-10 finishes in his 14 career Cup starts at the track, turning in a 12.4 AFP, which is 6th-best among active drivers in the field.
