After being waived by the Golden State Warriors, Ky Bowman is agreeing to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Near the start of the NBA’s free-agent period, the Golden State Warriors waived reserve guard Ky Bowman after one season in the Bay Area.
After going undrafted out of Boston College, Bowman joined Golden State’s 2019 preseason training camp. Bowman impressed during his debut campaign in the association, averaging 7.4 points on 41.7% shooting from the field with 2.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds per contest.
Although Bowman began the season on a two-way deal, his contract was converted into a multi-year NBA deal in early February.
As Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson dealt with significant injuries in the backcourt, Bowman started 12 games for Golden State as a rookie.
With a steady rookie season on his resume, Bowman’s free-agent window didn’t last long. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 6-foot-1 guard is signing a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Former Warriors guard Ky Bowman has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA@Stadium. Bowman will compete for a roster spot in training camp.
After spending his first season in the association with Curry, Thompson and Steve Kerr, Bowman will have the opportunity to learn from veteran guards like Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley and Tyronn Lue in Los Angeles.
Bowman will likely compete against Terance Mann and rookie Jordan Ford for one of the final spots in the Clippers’ backcourt.
In all likelihood, moving forward, it would have been difficult for the Warriors to find consistent minutes for Bowman.
As the Golden State Warriors prepare for the 2020-21 season and the beginning of free agency, on Friday, the team what the decision to waive reserve guard Ky Bowman.
Bowman, who started 12 games for the injury-plagued Warriors last season, went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft and averaged 7.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 45 appearances with the Warriors during the 2019-20 season.
As the Warriors continue to react to the unfortunate Achilles injury suffered by Klay Thompson, the team has acquired Kelly Oubre, Jr. to presumably play the lion’s share of rotation minutes available in Thompson’s absence. Oubre’s presence, plus the presumptive return of Stephen Curry to the lineup, would have created a minute-crunch for Bowman.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania was the first to report the news. Charania opines that Bowman has interest around the NBA, so it is likely he finds another home.

At a recent offseason workout, Steph Curry was on the court with past and current Warriors including Jeremy Lin, Eric Paschall and others.
With the opening day of the 2020-21 NBA season set in place, players are putting the finishing touches on an unprecedented offseason.
After only playing in five games with the Golden State Warriors in the 2019-20 campaign due to injuries, Stephen Curry will be making his long-awaited return to Steve Kerr’s rotation when the new season starts in December.
Before he laces up in his No. 30 Warriors jersey at Chase Center in San Francisco, Curry was spotted on the court with current and former teammates at a preseason workout.
After missing Golden State’s voluntary offseason minicamp in late September, Curry will have the opportunity to join the rest of his teammates at Chase Center for the Warriors preseason training camp on Dec. 1.
In a recent tweet, Golden State Warriors rookie Ky Bowman had high praise for Eric Paschall, calling him the “strongest man in the league.”
Although tipoff for the NBA’s Orlando Bubble is right around the corner, the Golden State Warriors are already in offseason mode. With their league-worst 15-50 record, the Warriors were one of eight teams not invited to the league’s restart at Disney World.
With no hoops on the calendar, the Warriors’ official Twitter account has been sharing some of the top moments from the 2019-20 season. On Wednesday, the Warriors posted a video celebrating Eric Paschall.
The Villanova product retweeted the video with the caption “Blessed.” After Paschall’s tweet, his rookie teammate Ky Bowman chimed in. Bowman had high praise for Paschall, calling Golden State’s young forward the “strongest man in the league.”
Paschall joined Bowman and Jordan Poole to lead a solid rookie class in Golden State. With Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson injured, Paschall quickly blossomed into a lead scoring option in Steve Kerr’s offense. The rookie was instrumental in Golden State’s first win at San Francisco’s new Chase Center, scoring a career-high 34 points against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The second-round pick averaged 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Paschall ranked in the top 10 in both points and rebounds per game for 2019-20 rookies.
After a solid debut season, Paschall is slated to play an important role alongside a healthy edition of the Splash Brothers and Draymond Green. The Warriors will need Paschall to replicate similar production from his rookie year in their path back to the Western Conference Postseason.
While the rest of the NBA is Orlando bound for the bubble, Golden State Warriors rookie Ky Bowman is in the gym throwing down electric dunks.
As 22 teams are Orlando bound for the NBA’s summer restart, members of the already eliminated Golden State Warriors are hitting the gym to begin their extended offseason.
Over the past handful of weeks, videos have surfaced of players returning to the court, including Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins.
Wiggins and Curry’s videos have primarily focused on their shooting, but Ky Bowman’s clip was a bit different. On Monday, the Golden State Warriors rookie point guard shared a video showing off his bounce on Instagram.
At the Unlimited Potential basketball training facility in the Bay Area, Bowman exploded to the hoop with an emphatic through the legs slam dunk. In the caption, Bowman wrote, “START MONDAY OFF STRONG #IAGILITY.”
Watch Bowman’s full video on his Instagram @kyranbowman:
In his debut season in the NBA, the Boston College product averaged 7.4 points, 2.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 45 games. After starting the year on a two-way contract, Bowman’s rookie campaign earned him a multi-year deal in Golden State.
Over the Warriors’ extended offseason, Bowman will compete with Damion Lee, Jordan Poole and potentially a top-five draft pick for a spot behind Klay Thompson and Curry in the rotation.
As the Utah Jazz now resume basketball activities, there are major issues they need to fix regarding stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.
As the Utah Jazz now resume basketball activities, there are major issues they need to fix regarding stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.
After so much time off due to the coronavirus pandemic, there will be a lot to iron out for all rosters. But the recent gap also exposed some harsh truths about the two best players on the Jazz.
In a recent story, Tim MacMahon reported that Gobert feels he should receive more lobs from Mitchell (via ESPN):
“Gobert rarely hesitates to let teammates know if they miss him when he is open around the rim. He’ll occasionally point up during play in animated fashion, sometimes as he is running back on defense, to note that a lob should have been thrown … Gobert knows his lobbying for lobs wears on teammates to the point of being counterproductive, like the wide receiver who gripes at the quarterback after every play when a pass isn’t thrown his way, regardless of the pass rush.”
Gobert led all NBA players with 306 dunks recorded last season, according to Basketball-Reference. But even when including alley-oops layups, the big man paired with Mitchell for only 28 lob connections during their 2018-19 campaign.
Considering that Gobert attempted 125 alley-oops in 2018-19 (17.6 percent of his total attempts from the field), this is certainly a major offensive focal point for the two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
As such, McMahon continued, the two players have specifically worked on their “lob chemistry” in individualized practice sessions to further avoid the blunders like the one seen above during their game against Denver back in January:
“Utah coach Quin Snyder and his staff have attempted to help facilitate that trust, especially between Mitchell and Gobert. That duo have had dozens of two-man workouts under the watch of coaches, with a focus on ironing out intricacies of their pick-and-roll partnership and lob chemistry. They also occasionally join coaches – usually some combination of Snyder, Jensen and Johnnie Bryant, the assistant who works most with Mitchell – for small-group film sessions at the team’s facility.”
Gobert made 16 alley-oops following passes from Mitchell, per NBA.com. This accounted for 4.5 percent of his total field goal count, down from 5.9 percent last season. This would average out to approximately 0.36 connections per 36 minutes when looking at their total time spent (1607 minutes) on the court together, down from 0.48 last season.
For a better understanding of how that compares to other lob threats around the league, we looked at the top combinations on this play type. Brooklyn’s Spencer Dinwiddie assisted DeAndre Jordan on 46 alley-oop opportunities this season. This means they averaged 2.76 alley-oops per 36 minutes shared (599 minutes) on the floor.
While these two players are no longer on the same roster, Houston’s James Harden and former teammate Clint Capela were also successful on 46 of their alley-oop possessions. Capela, now on the Atlanta Hawks, was able to catch 1.53 alley-oops per 36 minutes that he played alongside Harden (1,082) in 2019-20.
Other prolific pairings in the NBA this season include Dinwiddie-to-Jarrett Allen (40), Trae Young-to-John Collins (36), LeBron James-to-Anthony Davis (34), Chris Paul-to-Nerlens Noel (33) and Elfrid Payton-to-Mitchell Robinson (33).
The data makes it clear that there is certainly room for more lob connections between the two players. However, considering how rare these opportunities are even for the most prolific duo, perhaps there are other aspects of offense to worry about in Utah.

The Golden State Warriors have a good young player in Eric Paschall, but the rest of the young corps was not ranked high by The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie.
Without any high draft picks in years, the Golden State Warriors have had to dig deep to find young talent.
Sam Vecenie of The Athletic compared the Warriors’ prospects to the rest of the league by looking at every teams’ crop of young players and ranking which teams are in the best situations with players on their first contracts.
Vecenie included all players on their rookie-scale contracts, and made judgement calls for undrafted free agents or players who have bounced around the league without establishing themselves. He wrote that he included most players within their “first couple of years after draft eligibility.”
That excluded players like Damian Lee, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Marquese Chriss.
The Warriors, who have not drafted higher than No. 28 since selecting Harrison Barnes in 2012, did not fare well.
Golden State was No. 28 on Vecenie’s list. It is highlighted by Eric Paschall, a strong second-round pick, but the other four players Vecenie included have yet to show they can be rotation pieces.
The Warriors’ prospect list is made of Paschall, Ky Bowman, Jordan Poole, Alen Smailagic and Mychal Mulder.
Vecenie wrote:
The Warriors moved on from Omari Spellman and Jacob Evans midseason to clear some cap space against the hard cap they activated when signing and trading for D’Angelo Russell. That left a relatively bare-bones group here.
Paschall was strong in his first season and should at least be named second-team All-Rookie. But I wasn’t a fan of either of their other two first-round picks in 2019, and that continued. Poole and Smailagic didn’t show much. Bowman was solid for an undrafted two-way player, but his upside is an energetic backup point guard.
Luckily for the Warriors, the upcoming draft should result in a boost, and perhaps a significant one.
With the worst record in the league, Golden State will draft no lower than No. 5 overall.
The only two teams ranked lower than the Warriors are the Los Angeles Lakers, who traded their young core for Anthony Davis, and the Houston Rockets, who have not had a first-round pick since 2015.
From a development standpoint, the Warriors saw growth with several players on the roster, including the rookies.

Steve Kerr has shifted from the head coach of the Golden State Warriors to full-time scout now that the season has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Kerr said recently that he has started watching film of some of the top prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft. Since the Warriors are the odds-on favorites to land the top pick, Kerr is in a bit of a unique situation since he is typically preparing for the playoffs at this point of the year.
The Warriors posted the worst record in the league prior to the suspension and have struggled to stay healthy. Key players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have all missed time but the down season created an opening for the younger players on the roster, including rookies Eric Paschall, Jordan Poole and others.
Kerr spoke with Warriors TV play-by-play broadcaster Bob Fitzgerald recently about a variety of topics and called the 2019-20 season “productive” from a development perspective.
I think the biggest thing we’re trying to do is develop players for the future, both short term and long. When you have a season like this where everything goes wrong, you’ve got injuries and the record is bad and you’re struggling, it’s the smaller battles you try to win. Those smaller battles are really about player development and culture and incorporating guys into your system and teaching them what it’s about to be a member of the Warriors.
I thought from that standpoint, it was a productive season because you saw the growth of our rookies. For example, Eric Paschall had a terrific year. Jordan Poole really came along toward the end of the season. The two-way contributions of Ky Bowman and Juan Toscano-Anderson and Mike Mulder at the end of the year. That was all really good stuff. … To use this season to see those guys develop, see their individual careers start to blossom, it’s easy to see them helping us next year when we get healthy.
Paschall emerged as one of the top rookies this season after averaging 14 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 60 games played. He is fourth in scoring among all first-year players and is one of four rookies to have multiple 30-point games this season.
Poole struggled to stay consistent for most of the year but saw improvement toward the end of the season after a brief stint in the G League while Bowman saw his two-way contract upgraded to a standard NBA contract in February.
The Warriors project to be a much different team next season with a healthy roster so it is unclear how much time these younger players will see but this year gave the organization an extended look at their potential.
Juan Toscano-Anderson names his top-three high flyers on the Warriors roster.
With no basketball on the radar, players around the league are starting to host interactive Q&A segments with fans on social media.
On Saturday night, Juan Toscano-Anderson took on questions from his followers on Twitter. The Bay Area native discussed his all-time favorite Warriors lineup, basketball in Mexico and Baron Davis.
One question could’ve ruffled some feathers in the Golden State locker room. Toscano-Anderson was asked who he thinks is the best dunker currently on the Warriors roster. The Marquette product played it cool, answering with a “toss-up” between three players.
After throwing down highlight-reel dunks this season, each member of the Warriors that Toscano-Anderson mentioned is deserving of the best dunker title.
However, each high flyer is a bit different. Eric Paschall is a bouncy surprising dunker that can be fearless in his effort to throw down a jam on a defender. The Warriors rookie has been apart of a few poster-worthy moments during his first season in San Francisco.
Ky Bowman is a gliding dunker that will explode with hangtime. The former two-way player has blossomed into a highlight waiting to happen when the Warriors are attacking in the open court.
Since entering the league out of Washington, Marquese Chriss has been known for his leaping ability. There isn’t a lob the former lottery pick can’t grab. With Draymond Green running the floor, Chriss has flushed home a multitude of alley-oop dunks. Once Stephen Curry returns to the floor fully healthy, the number of lobs Chriss sees will only grow.
After missing the Warriors win against the Phoenix Suns, Jordan Poole is cleared to play with the Washington Wizards in town.
Stephen Curry will not be available against the Washington Wizards as his return from a broken hand injury has been postponed. For the Golden State Warriors, Curry is not the only player injured with Washington in town.
A trio of players were ruled out against the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night, giving Golden State an eight-man bench. However, the Warriors slim rotation didn’t matter as the team fought back from an 18 point deficit to snap Golden State’s eight-game losing streak.
The Warriors did not have a true point guard against the Suns, with Damion Lee getting the primary duties as ball-handler. Against the Wizards, Jordan Poole is expected to return from his one-game absence due to an ankle injury.
The Warriors will have (somewhat of) a point guard tonight. Jordan Poole has been cleared to play.
Prior to being injured, the Michigan Wolverine product started the past four games at point guard for Steve Kerr, averaging 15.8 points on 45.6 % shooting from the field, while dishing 4.4 assists per contest. Without Curry and Ky Bowman, Golden State’s rookie should get a bulk of the minutes at point guard against Bradley Beal and the Wizards.
Although Poole is will be back in the rotation, three members of Golden State’s frontcourt are listed as questionable with the Wizards in San Francisco.
Recently, Green has missed two games with a pelvic contusion and was ruled out against the Suns with a sore knee.
Adding to the Warriors list of ailments, Alen Smailagic and Kevon Looney are both dealing with injuries against Washington. Looney is coming off his second double-digit scoring effort of the season, but is questionable with left hip soreness in the second game of a back-to-back.
Green, Looney and Smailagic are questionable tonight. Poole is probable.
Smailagic was called up from the Warriors G League affiliate in Santa Cruz as Golden State deals with injuries across their roster. Yet, the Serbian rookie is dealing with a right quad contusion and is questionable against Washington.
