Grubauer was just good enough in Game 6, stopping 20 of 23 shots. After standing on his head to eliminate Colorado, he has been more susceptible this round, allowing 3 goals or more in 5 of 6 games.

Oettinger was pulled 24:23 into Game 6, which marked the shortest start of his career. He stopped 14 of 18 shots as Seattle’s pressure was relentless. Otter has been great at home in the series, stopping 93 of 102 shots in 3 games. He’s also 21-1-3 this season following a loss.

It was 365 days ago that Dallas lost in Game 7 to the Calgary Flames 3-2 in overtime. Oettinger made a franchise-record 64 saves in the loss. He and the team are likely aware of that and will feed off of that with a trip to the Western Conference Finals up for grabs.

That said, we’re not going to pay -210 when Seattle has a puncher’s chance. Head to the Win/Total section and take STARS TO WIN AND OVER 4.5 GOALS (-110).

Puck line/Against the spread

There isn’t enough of a bite of the apple to risk the puck line here. Game 7 is a different animal, and it should be close. So let’s look to the trend in the 2nd period. The teams have scored 21 goals in the 2nd frame over the last 5 games.

The books have not countered and left a door open. Take OVER 2 SECOND PERIOD GOALS (+110) with a decent chance at a push with plus-money upside.

Over/Under

The Over has cashed in 9 straight games between the teams, including the last 4 meetings in Dallas and all 6 games in this series. Sure, this could be a 2-1 thriller, but we haven’t seen anything close to that between the pipes in the series.

This has been a back-and-forth series with each team winning every other game. Seattle was overwhelmed in Game 4 by a 6-3 score to even the series. The 2nd period has been the determining factor. Over the last 3 games, the winning team tallied at least 3 goals in the 2nd period to take charge. Seattle welcomed LW Jared McCann back for the first time this series, and he had 3 shots on goal (SOG) Tuesday.

Dallas got out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd period, and Seattle lost a challenge on the 3rd goal. That gave Dallas a power play, which C Joe Pavelski connected on to make it 4-0 midway through the game. Grubauer was pulled for the 1st time in Game 4, allowing 5 goals on 22 shots. He looked strong early in the game, stopping 10 of 11 in the 1st period, but LW Jamie Benn broke through on the power play in the last 3 minutes. Grubauer has a 2.97 GAA and .909 SV% in the playoffs.

Oettinger wasn’t great in Game 4, but he was just good enough. He stopped 16 of the 19 shots fired his way. He has allowed at least 2 goals in each game this series and 3 or more in 3 of the 4. Otter has a 2.71 GAA and .903 SV% these playoffs.

This isn’t a series to take a -190 ML on either team and is more of a toss-up. The road team has won every other game in the series, and they’re 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.  McCann’s return should have a bigger impact in Game 5.

LEAN KRAKEN +155.

Puck line/Against the spread

The last 3 games have been decided by multiple goals, but these teams have needed overtime 3 times this year. I’d rather taken Seattle and the plus-money than the goal of insurance at -160 here.

However, let’s look at the 2nd period trend. In the last 3 games, we’ve had 15 goals between the sides in the 2nd. I’ll take OVER 2 SECOND PERIOD GOALS (+105) with a decent chance at a push with plus-money upside.

Over/Under

These teams have gone Over 7 games in a row, and the books have finally countered. It was fun while it lasted. Each game has had at least 6 goals and would be 3-0-1 against that number. But I’m not feeling the total here. Pavelski had at least 3 SOG in 3 of the 4 games this series and did so in both home games.

The Kraken outlasted the Stars for a 5-4 overtime win Tuesday. Seattle shocked the Stars with 4 goals in the 1st period and didn’t score again until overtime. The Kraken outshot the Stars 44-35 and took home-ice advantage for the series with the victory. RW Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist as Seattle got tallies from 5 different players. They have now won 3 consecutive road playoff games.

C Joe Pavelski had the game of his life, but it wasn’t enough. Pavelski, 38, became the oldest player to ever record 4 goals in a playoff game. He scored on a wrister, a rebound and 2 ridiculous redirected shots – one he spun around and made contact with the puck in the air, and the other he batted out of the air. Grubauer allowed 4 goals in the series opener, but 2 were on redirections and 1 was a rebound. So he really only allowed a single, natural goal and made 31 saves on 35 shots. The 4 goals are the 2nd-most he has allowed in a game this postseason, where he’s 5-3 with a 2.57 GAA and .921 SV%.

Oettinger looked shell-shocked skating off the ice after the 1st period Tuesday, but he gathered himself masterfully. Until the OT goal went in, he had saved 33 consecutive shots. He was shaky early in the Minnesota series but buckled down. He’s 4-3 with a 2.35 GAA and .921 SV% in these playoffs.

Moneyline

Dallas dropped Game 1 to Minnesota at home and responded with a 7-3 shellacking in Game 2. I look for another strong response. Dallas has scored 4 goals in 3 straight games, and they may need that kind of production as this has the looks of an Over series. I’m taking Dallas again in Game 2. They are healthy, and Seattle is still without top-scorer LW Jared McCann.

PASS on the -210 ML, though. I think we’re going to have another fast-paced 1st period. Take OVER 1.5 TOTAL GOALS FIRST PERIOD (+100).

Puck line/Against the spread

Three of the 4 games between the teams have required overtime this season. So Dallas’ puck line isn’t much of a consideration.

Seattle’s +1.5 (-160) is in a reasonable range, but you have to worry about the possibility of an empty-net goal in postseason play. Seattle was tied for the 7th-fewest empty netters allowed, but Dallas was tied for the 4th-most empty netters scored.

I could see siding with Seattle, but for the amount of risk on the road, I’d want it south of -150.

PASS.

Over/Under

All 4 games between the teams had at least 7 goals scored this season. Seattle has cashed the Over in 2 of the last 3 games and Dallas has cashed the Over in 3 of its last 4. The books don’t appear ready to adapt to those trends. Coming into the series, I expected an Under feel. However, with the way the train left the station in Game 1, and the plus-money available, I’m siding with the OVER 5.5 (+105).

Seattle lost its leading scorer, LW Jared McCann, in Game 4 of the 1st round, and his status is unknown for Game 1 and this entire series.

Dallas took care of the Minnesota Wild in 6 games and had the weekend to rest. Winger Roope Hintz led the way with 5 goals and 7 assists vs. the Wild. Grubauer played some of the best hockey of his career in the 1st round against the Avs with a 2.44 GAA and .926 SV%. He faced Dallas once this season and took the overtime loss at home, allowing 4 goals on 25 shots March 11.

Oettinger was a little shaky early on against Minnesota but really tightened it up, allowing 3 goals in the final 3 games combined. He had a 2.01 GAA and .929 SV% in the series. He was 2-0-1 with a 3.30 GAA and .884 SV% against the Kraken this season.

Moneyline

This series could lengthen if McCann is able to return, but for now, Dallas has the sizeable advantage in depth. Grubauer stood on his head the entire Colorado series, but Oettinger gives Dallas the advantage between the pipes. This one should be a grindy, low-scoring affair.

We’ll PASS on the Stars’ -175 ML because the Kraken deserves credit for what they did vs. the Avalanche.

Head to the Win/Total section, and TAKE STARS TO WIN AND UNDER 6.5 TOTAL GOALS (+120).

Puck line/Against the spread

Two of the 3 games between these teams this season were decided by 1 goal — both overtime results. Four of Seattle’s 7 games vs. Colorado were within a goal. Two of Dallas’ 6 games were within a goal.

Dallas is rested. Seattle could be without its top scorer. I like the return on the puck line enough to give it a shot. TAKE STARS -1.5 (+150).

Over/Under

All 3 games between the teams had at least 7 goals scored this season. Dallas was 2-3-1 O/U against Minnesota, and the Over was 1-6 in Seattle’s series against Colorado. I look for an Under game here as each team feels the other out, and we have 2 red-hot goalies.
