Rutgers football recruiting: Tight end prospect Korey Duff is now a four-star

Korey Duff is now a four-star according to Rivals.

Korey Duff is now a four-star as the Long Island tight end is now among the top-ranked players in the nation at his position.

In an update this week, Rivals bumped Duff from a three-star to a four-star recruit. The Long Island athlete is coming off a strong junior season for St. Anthony’s (Melville, N.Y.). He is a member of the 2024 recruiting class.

He is the fourth-best prospect in a deep recruiting class from New York. The bump also sees him now ranked as the No. 18 tight end in the nation.

It is open to debate where Duff likely ends up at the next level. He is a solid enough blocker to play a tight end, but his fluidity and athleticism could also project to wide receiver.

The Rutgers football recruiting class currently features 15 committed players. Two weeks ago, the Scarlet Knights landed a commitment from Aaris Bethea, their first commitment from New York in this recruiting cycle.

Bethea is the first commitment to Rutgers from New York in the 2024 class.

2024 3-Star Tight end Korey Duff Jr. places Texas A&M among Top 7 program list

Texas A&M knows where they stand with 2024 3-star Tight end Korey Duff Jr., who recent placed thie Aggies in his Top 7 program list

You can never have enough tight ends if your Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher, who since taking over the program has placed a premium on the position, a complete 360-degree turn from how former Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin utilized the part during his time in College Station.

Ahead of the 2023 season, the Aggies are completely stacked at Tight end, starting with the ascending sophomore trio of receiving options in Donovan Green, Jake Johnson, and Theo Ohlstrom, while reliable senior Max Wright will return for his final campaign with the Maroon and White as the steady option as a blocker with some ability in the passing game.

From a recruiting standpoint, four-star freshman Jaden Platt joins the Aggies from the 2023 cycle, while the 2024 recruiting class targets include three-star Korey Duff Jr. out of Melville, New York, who just released his Top 7 program list.

According to 247Sports, Duff is the 21st-ranked Tight end in the class and the 2nd-ranked player in New York. After his incredibly productive 2022 junior season at St. Anthony’s High School, where the 6-5 207-pound long strider recorded 42 receptions for 995 yards and 12 touchdowns, the Divison 1 offers started pouring in, leading to the release of his Top 7 list, which includes Rutgers, UCF, North Carolina, Texas, Miami, Syracuse, and of course, Texas A&M.

After taking an unofficial visit to College Station on March 23, count on Fisher and his staff to set up an official visit later this summer or sometime during the 2023 season.

Rutgers football: Korey Duff details his growing relationship with Dave Brock

Rutgers football recruit Korey Duff breaks down his relationship with Dave Brock.

One of the top recruits in the region, Korey Duff, is beginning to form a relationship with Dave Brock. The Rutgers football wide receivers coach is new to the staff but brings plenty of experience from a previous stop at Rutgers as well as his time in the NFL.

Brock comes to Rutgers football having most recently been in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, where he was the wide receivers coach. He has spent the last five years in the NFL on staff with the Falcons.

Prior to that, he was head coach at Delaware. In 2012, he was the offensive coordinator at Rutgers.

A three-star recruit from St. Anthony’s (Melville, N.Y.), Duff is a class of 2024 recruit and a priority target for the Scarlet Knights. He has begun to develop a relationship with Brock, who was hired in January.

“It’s been great getting to know him. I love the way he speaks about the game and how he could use me,” Duff told Rutgers Wire this week.

“Also, very down to earth and I love that about a coach.”

The hiring of Brock was greeted by former Rutgers players who played for him when he was with the program in 2012. Michael Burton, who won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs this past NFL season, talked glowingly about Brock.

And former Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu said that Brock’s NFL experience will be huge for the young wide receivers in the program.

Duff recently told Rutgers Wire that he will be taking an official visit to Rutgers in the summer. As for his other four visits, Duff said that Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and Syracuse are all in the mix for official visits.

A three-star recruit according to Rivals, Duff is ranked the fourth-best player in New York in this class. Long Island has become a point of emphasis for Rutgers over the past two years as the area is exploding with prep football talent.

Playing at Rutgers, Duff said, is appealing to him. The Scarlet Knights were his first Power Five offer last year.

“Yes, the opportunity to stay close to home is something that excites me a lot,” Duff said.

Will three-star wide receiver Korey Duff take an official visit to Rutgers football?

Long Island three-star Korey Duff gives a Rutgers football recruiting update.

Rutgers football has been pursuing Korey Duff for a long time, ever since offering the Long Island athlete last January.

Duff, a top five player in New York in the class of 2024, is one of the best prospects in the region. At 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Duff has the skill and athleticism to be an impact wide receiver at the Power Five level with the size to square up as a tight end.

Last season in 10 games played for St. Anthony’s (Melville, N.Y.), he had 42 catches for 955 receiving yards with 12 touchdowns. He holds Power Five offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

Rutgers was the first Power Five offer for Duff when they officially offered him over a year ago. When asked how things are trending with Rutgers, Duff said “Great.”

“Just spoke to coach Brock (wide receivers coach David Brock) yesterday,” Duff told Rutgers Wire on Friday. “(We’re) Both real excited to meet with each other in April.”

He said that Rutgers will be getting one of his official visits this summer.

Recruiting isn’t slowing down for Duff, not in the slightest. According to Rivals, he is a three-star and the fourth-best recruit in the nation.

“I will be at Texas next weekend and hopefully Texas A&M as well,” Duff said. “Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and possibly Georgia Tech all in April.”

The Rutgers visit will be on April 11 or 13.

Duff said he will be visiting Texas with his 7-on-7 team.

“Excited to see what they have down there,” Duff said.

“Coach Flood (Kyle Flood), the offensive coordinator, came to visit me at I’m school back in December.”
