Broncos have picked 12th overall three times since 1971

If the Broncos stand pat and don’t make a trade, Thursday will mark the fourth time they have picked 12th overall in the NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos will pick 12th overall in Thursday’s NFL draft, where they hope to select a game-changing player that will help this franchise back into relevance.

Denver has drafted in the 12th overall slot three times since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Each of those three players went on to have a significant career with the Broncos.

  • 1971: OT Marv Montgomery

Montgomery was an offensive lineman at USC before being selected by Denver at 12th overall in the 1971 NFL draft. Montgomery spent five years and three games in 1976 with the Broncos before moving onto the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons prior to the finishing of his career in 1978.

  • 2008: OT Ryan Clady

Clady made the transition from college to the NFL the way not many other players do — by staying with a team with the same nickname and similar colors. Clady was an offensive tackle from the Boise State Broncos, and he made a key block on the famous Statue of Liberty play from the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Clady went on to have a great career with the NFL’s Broncos — he was a four-time Pro Bowler (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014) and a two-time first-team All-Pro (2009, 2012). Clady finished his career in 2016 with the New York Jets.

  • 2009: RB Knowshon Moreno

One of the most recent Georgia running backs that was selected by the Broncos was Knowshon Moreno, who was also picked 12th overall. Moreno was a five-year starter with the Broncos, only recording one 1,000-yard season (2013). Moreno finished his Denver stint with 4,869 yards and 35 total touchdowns in five years.

It will be interesting to see who Denver picks with the 12th selection in 2024 (if they don’t make a trade).

Georgia football play of the day – Georgia vs Auburn (2007)

Watch the Georgia football play of the day here!

It’s Tuesday, September 15 – only 11 more days until the Bulldogs kickoff versus Arkansas on Sept. 26.

Today’s play of the day comes from the infamous ‘blackout’ game between No. 10 Georgia and No. 17 Auburn at Sanford Stadium in 2007.

With 5:09 remaining in the third quarter, underdog Auburn held a 3-point lead, but the Bulldogs would soon find a spark.

We pick up at Georgia’s second and eight from the Auburn 24 yard line.

Watch what happened here:

You have to love Verne Lundquist’s, “What a cut!”

The Bulldogs would go on to win in style 45-20, behind star running back Knowshon Moreno’s 22 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

And can’t forget this clip . One of the most exciting games in Sanford history featured Soulja Boy:

It’s Wednesday, July 8 and today’s play of the day comes from Georgia versus Florida in 2007.

DawgNation may remember this one as “the celebration”. It was third and goal for Georgia when running back Knowshon Moreno took a power-I hand-off over the top of the Florida defense for the first score of the game. As soon as Georgia knew Moreno had the score, the entire Bulldog sideline joined the offense on the field for one of the coolest moments in UGA vs. UF history!

Watch it here:

Underdog Georgia would go on to win 42-30 behind Moreno’s 33 carries for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

It’s Monday, June 29 and today’s play of the day comes from Georgia versus LSU on October 25, 2008.

Georgia star running back Knowshon Moreno takes a power-I counter toss up the middle for a 68-yard touchdown to put Georgia up by 20 points late in the third quarter.

Watch it here: You may want to turn the volume up on this one, especially pre-snap to hear CBS commentator Gary Danielson’s painfully wrong take.

The No. 7 ranked Bulldogs would go on to beat the 13th ranked Tigers 52-38 in Death Valley

ESPN ranks college football’s RBUs, leaves Georgia off list

ESPN releases list of college football’s top 10 running back universities over the history of college football, leaves out Georgia football.

Georgia has a tendency to recruit heavily at the running back position, bringing through backs that somehow always seem better than the last one.

From Herschel Walker to Knowshon Moreno, Todd Gurley to Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and D’Andre Swift, the Dawgs have always had the engine of their offense be the running back.

ESPN released their list of which schools they think have produced the most consistently dominant running backs over the years.

The Dawgs couldn’t be more deserving of a spot on this list, but somehow got left off.

ESPN’s RBU top 10:

  1. Alabama
  2. Wisconsin
  3. LSU
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Miami
  6. Pittsburgh
  7. Texas
  8. Oregon
  9. Arkansas
  10. Auburn

Looking at each team’s top three RBs and not seeing Georgia there is pretty crazy.

The comment sections started filling up on the Instagram post, asking how on earth ESPN could leave UGA off a RBU list.  If you check the post, that is the main comment going around on the numerous flaws of the list.

There will always be Georgia doubters out there.

Georgia will be losing RB D’Andre Swift to the NFL Draft as well as Brian Herrien.  The Dawgs will be in good hands with Zamir White, James Cook and incoming freshman RB Kendall Milton taking on the work load next season.
