Report: Cowboys get encouraging news on recovery timetable for rising star LB

From @ToddBrock24f7: It was feared DeMarvion Overshown would miss all of 2025 with his latest knee injury. Surgery is now done, and his return could come sooner.

The Cowboys have received an encouraging update on the injury front, a rare occurrence in this season that has seen so many of the team’s top playmakers miss multiple games or have their 2024 campaign end prematurely.

DeMarvion Overshown has undergone surgery to repair the right knee triple tear he suffered against the Bengals on Dec. 9, and despite initial fears that the devastating injury could cost him the entire 2025 season, there is now hope for the second-year linebacker to make an earlier return.

Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Overshown’s procedure, performed by renowned California-based orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, was deemed “successful,” and the former Texas Longhorn “could return by mid-to-late next season, a far more optimistic timeline than initially expected after the diagnosis.”

Overshown tore his ACL, PCL, and MCL in the fourth quarter of Week 14’s Monday Night loss to Cincinnati. The 24-year-old had been the Cowboys’ second-leading tackler coming into that game, just his 13th game appearance since being drafted in the third round of 2023’s draft.

The Texas native missed his entire rookie year due to an ACL tear in his other knee.

He finished this season with 90 tackles, five sacks, eight TFLs, five QB hits, four passes defended, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.

His Cowboys coaches and teammates were gutted by this latest injury, with Micah Parsons fighting back tears as he spoke to reporters about his “little bro.”

Overshown, though, has kept a positive outlook from the very beginning, posting on social media just hours after the injury, “Wouldn’t want this for anyone else! One of God’s Toughest Soldiers (prayer hands emoji) Keep me in your prayers…”

Patrik Walker of the team website reports that linebacker Marist Liufau, who saw a bump in playing time last week as Overshown’s replacement, has received a post-op text from him stating, “He’s doing well and he’s in good spirits.”

To be clear, Overshown won’t be back in action anytime soon. But it may be a little sooner than once thought.

Report: Cowboys could be without CB Trevon Diggs for quite some time

From @ToddBrock24f7: Diggs will have surgery to repair cartilage in his left knee, Stephen Jones is eyeing Week 1 for his return, but one insider isn’t so sure.

Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has seen his season end early for the second year in a row due to a knee injury. And although the team is hopeful that it won’t impact his 2025 season, the two-time Pro Bowler could be cutting it close, and that’s the best-case scenario.

Diggs will undergo surgery to repair his left knee after suffering an injury in the team’s Week 14 loss to Cincinnati, the Cowboys announced over the weekend. The issue is reportedly with his articular cartilage, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, and apparently separate from the knee ailment that kept him out of Weeks 12 and 13.

“This is something that occurred during the [Week 14] game,” head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed in his postgame press conference after the team’s 30-14 win over the Panthers.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones elaborated on Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan on Monday, saying he did not expect Diggs to be ready for training camp next summer and adding, “but I think his timeline will be right at the start of the season.”

Diggs had played every defensive snap of the Monday night meeting with the Bengals and then consulted with the Cowboys’ medical staff during the week. After missing multiple practices and some testing, the decision was made to keep Diggs home from the trip to Charlotte and proceed with plans for surgery.

“He was having to play with fluid in his knee. He was out there doing everything he can because he wants to play, he wants to compete, he wants to contribute,” Jones said of the 26-year-old Diggs.

“It’s certainly a very legitimate injury that’s gonna take him some time to recover from. We got a vision that we can get him ready to do next year.”

In his Monday post to X, Rapoport put the recovery time at “up to eight months.”

But not everyone is ready to automatically pencil Diggs in for Week 1 next fall.

The former second-round draft pick missed most of the 2023 season with an ACL tear in his right knee. Though he was able to be in the starting lineup for that season opener, there are rumblings now that the organization was dissatisfied with the way he approached the rehab stint.

“This is a serious knee injury,” explained longtime insider Clarence Hill Jr. of AllCity DLLS. “He could possibly miss most of next season.”

Given the financial ramifications of his $97 million contract extension signed in July of 2023 and the return on that investment the team is getting on the field, expect Diggs’s status to be a major storyline for the coming offseason.

Cowboys to lose CB Trevon Diggs for remainder of 2024 season

From @ToddBrock24f7: Diggs missed 15 games last season to an ACL tear. His latest injury is said to be “significant” but unrelated to that earlier one.

The Cowboys’ unceremonious exit to the 2024 season has been long, painful, and gradual. In fact, the team’s top players have been dropping out here and there, one at a time since before Week 1.

Now, another one bites the dust.

Cornerback Trevon Diggs, already ruled out of Sunday’s game versus the Carolina Panthers, is now reportedly facing knee surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.

The news was first reported by Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, who posted the development to X on Saturday, shortly after it had been revealed that Diggs- who had been listed as questionable- would not be traveling with his teammates to Charlotte for their Week 15 matchup.

Diggs had just returned from a two-game absence to appear in Monday night’s date with Cincinnati, playing every defensive snap in the 27-20 loss.

It’s unclear if Diggs re-aggravated that injury or suffered an entirely new one, but an MRI this week on Diggs’s still-problematic left knee showed damage that would require surgery following the season. The decision has been made that the end of his season is now.

WFAA’s Ed Werder reports that, per his source, the injury to Diggs’s knee is “significant,” though specifics have not been made public.

Diggs played just two games in 2023 before an ACL tear- also in the left knee- ended that season, too. When the 2024 campaign finally ends for the Cowboys, the former second-round draft pick out of Alabama will have appeared in only 13 of their last 34 regular-season contests.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

Todd Archer of ESPN cites his own source as saying that this most recent issue “is not related to” the 2023 ACL repair.

Diggs is now the fifth Cowboys’ Pro Bowler to be on injured reserve this season, joining Dak Prescott, Zack Martin, DeMarcus Lawrence, and DaRon Bland. Eight other Cowboys are currently on IR, too.

Prescott and Martin have already seen their seasons come to a premature end due to injury, as have Sam Williams, John Stephens Jr., Markquese Bell, and DeMarvion Overshown.

And now, Diggs.

‘More severe than an ACL’: Promising young Cowboys LB suffers devastating knee injury

From @ToddBrock24f7: A serious knee injury Monday night left his teammates devastated, but DeMarvion Overshown himself is already eyeing his next comeback.

One of the few bright spots in the Cowboys’ gloomy 2024 season has been snuffed out. And while the darkness may linger for some time, the player at the center of it is already igniting a new flicker of hope.

DeMarvion Overshown, the promising second-year linebacker who was playing in just his 13th game as a pro, went down with a leg injury during the fourth quarter of Monday night’s gut-wrenching 27-20 loss to Cincinnati.

This injury may be even worse than the preseason ACL tear that cost him his entire rookie campaign in 2023.

“It’s of serious nature, I’m told, that’s really all I know,” Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said after the game, per the team website. “It didn’t look good.”

Overshown entered the contest as the team’s second-leading tackler, with more sacks- five- than any Cowboys defender apart from Micah Parsons, with a team-best eight tackles for loss, and having recorded the only interception return for a touchdown of Dallas’s season so far.

But when his right leg was rolled up on by Bengals center Ted Karras, it was cause for immediate concern. Cowboys teammates quickly called for assistance, and Overshown was taken directly to the locker room with help from two team trainers. He was ruled out of the remainder of the contest within minutes.

Clarence Hill Jr. of AllCity DLLS reports that the team believes that Overshown “ruptured several ligaments in his knee” and that the injury is “more severe than an ACL.”

Overshown’s 2023 ACL tear was in his left knee.

Although Overshown will undergo further testing on Tuesday, the gravity of the former Longhorn’s injury was already obvious to the rest of the Cowboys locker room.

Parsons was visibly shaken while speaking with reporters about the teammate he’s taken to calling his “little bro.”

“I cried,” Parsons said. “He don’t deserve that, either. He really don’t. To just understand what he’s going to go through- physically and mentally- it’s so challenging. He’s so talented. The year he was having, I mean, I really just don’t think that’s fair.”

Veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks acknowledged that injuries are a part of the game but admitted that seeing Overshown go down was especially tough.

“I’m just feeling for him right now,” he said. “I know how hard he works, and it means a lot to him. Means a lot to me. It’s not really fair. Football is not really fair. You never know.”

“I know it definitely hit a lot of the guys,” McCarthy said.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

It hit Overshown, too. The Texas native gave an update on social media late Monday night that hinted at the severity of his latest injury.

“Wouldn’t want this for anyone else!” he posted. “One of God’s Toughest Soldiers (prayer hands emoji) Keep me in your prayers…”

By Tuesday morning, though, he was already on the comeback trail, at least mentally. An X influencer account called Attack! on Cowboys posted, “hoping DeMarvion Overshown doesn’t become one of the greatest ‘what if’ stories of all time.”

Overshown himself offered a short and sweet response.

“Guarantee I won’t.”

Will Harrison Butker play this week? Injury updates for Chiefs kicker

#Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is dealing with a knee injury. Here are the latest updates.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without star kicker Harrison Butker in their Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Butker was added to Kansas City’s injury report on Thursday and is reported to be headed for a stint on the Chiefs’ injured reserve list.

Harrison Butker injury update

Butker is dealing with a knee injury, though the exact nature of his condition remains unclear. He was not on Kansas City’s injury report after the Chiefs’ practice session on Wednesday but was promptly placed on the team’s injured reserve list on Thursday.

How long will Harrison Butker be out?

Butker will have to miss at least four games before he can return from Kansas City’s injured reserve list. Early reports indicate that Butker may be able to recover from his latest injury in three to four weeks, but regardless of his status, he will miss a minimum of four contests.

Chiefs kicker depth chart

After placing Butker on their injured reserve list, the Chiefs signed rookie kicker Spencer Shrader off the New York Jets’ practice squad. Shrader should be expected to see action in all of Kansas City’s games while Butker is on the mend.

Report: Cowboys DE avoids season-ending injury but will require surgery

From @ToddBrock24f7: Marshawn Kneeland lasted just 4 plays in relief of 2 other injured Cowboys stars. He’ll miss at least a month with a partial meniscus tear.

When it rains, it pours. And not just from the clouds over Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Sunday night.

Once the game finally got underway after a lengthy weather delay, a Cowboys defender being asked to step up due to other injuries suffered one of his own just four snaps in.

Rookie defensive end Marshawn Kneeland suffered a partial meniscus tear on the first series of the night for the Cowboys defense. The injury came during a tackle of Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. Kneeland was carted off the sideline and did not return for the duration of Dallas’s 20-17 win over the Steelers.

Multiple outlets are reporting Monday that the second-round draft pick avoided a season-ending ACL tear, but he will need surgery to repair the damage in his right knee. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Kneeland could miss four to six weeks while he recovers.

The Western Michigan product is now the fourth edge rusher to go down with an injury this season for Dallas. Sam Williams was lost for the season in late July, Micah Parsons is considered week-to-week, and DeMarcus Lawrence will be on injured reserve through Nov. 3.

Kneeland will almost certainly be moved to IR as well as the team figures out a plan for at least the next month.

Chauncey Golston, Tyrus Wheat, and Carl Lawson took on extra snaps versus the Steelers after Kneeland went down in the first quarter. All three ended the night notching half a sack on Fields.

Steelers injury update: Troy Fautanu OUT in Week 3

Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookie right tackle will miss Week 3 against the Chargers with injury, and Broderick Jones will most likely step up in his place.

It had been previously reported by ESPN reporter Adam Schefter that Troy Fautanu had suffered a knee injury and could be out indefinitely.  He was scheduled to undergo further evaluation, but we now have confirmation that he will miss Week 3.

https://twitter.com/RichieWalsh/status/1837512020918149598

This is a frustrating setback for the health of the Pittsburgh Steelers roster as a whole, which were set to welcome a few reliable starters back from injury in the coming weeks.

Broderick Jones will more than likely be his replacement for the foreseeable future.  Mike Tomlin had confirmed that his benching in Week 2 was due to consistent penalties, and it will be interesting to see if these issues have been ironed out

While the Steelers will be without rookie Troy Fautanu when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3, the standard of victory hasn’t changed.  The team has an opportunity to win this for their injured brethren, and will look to do so on September 22nd at 1:00 EST PM.

Steelers injury updates: Starting OT out indefinitely with knee injury

It sounds like Broderick Jones will be back in the starting lineup this week.

According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be without the services of rookie offensive tackle Troy Fautanu for some time. The Steelers are taking on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Fautanu suffered a knee injury in Friday’s practice but there  was no word if it was the same knee he injured earlier in the offseason or if it was the other knee. We presume this is a re-injury but no official word from the team.

The Steelers listed Fautanu as questionable for Sunday’s game and according to offensive tackle Broderick Jones, Fautanu was getting an MRI.

https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1837484319477989382

Depending on what that MRI said, Fautanu could be downgraded on Saturday. If Fautanu can’t go, Broderick Jones will be back in the starting lineup. Jones was benched last week in favor of Fautanu after Jones had three penalties in one drive.

Meanwhile, the left tackle spot remains intact as Dan Moore Jr. holds off all comers with a strong first two games.

Ludvig Aberg to undergo knee surgery, will play this fall on limited basis

Aberg should be able to hit golf balls 3-4 weeks after his procedure.

Ludvig Aberg has offseason plans.

The 24-year-old Swedish sensation, who is ranked fifth in the world, is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee this week. Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis first reported the news.

Aberg, who finished 16th in the Tour Championship on Sunday, first complained about the knee injury in May when he withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship.

According to Lewis’s social media post, Aberg should be able to hit golf balls 3-4 weeks after his procedure. He likely will play this fall on a limited basis.

Aberg finished second at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Masters in April, his first major, and the BMW Championship among eight top-10 finishes this season.

Aberg isn’t the only one Tour star requiring surgery this offseason. On Saturday, Jordan Spieth announced he underwent successful surgery on his wrist.

Steelers OT Troy Fautanu suffers knee injury in rookie debut

Fautanu was wearing a brace on his knee after Friday’s loss.

Although it didn’t appear to be anything major, first-round rookie offensive tackle Troy Fautanu did suffer some sort of lower leg injury in Friday’s preseason loss to the Houston Texans.

Fautanu played just 25 snaps on Friday night and got trial by fire against some of the best pass rushers in the NFL. When Fautanu went down, Spencer Anderson took his spot and ended up playing 42 offensive snaps. Broderick Jones on the other side played 42 snaps at the opposite tackle spot.

First-team offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. only played six snaps on Friday night which only adds to the intrigue of this position battle.

The Steelers selected Fautanu out of the University of Washington in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. We are sure the Steelers aren’t willing to take any chances with Fautanu but we will wait to see what head coach Mike Tomlin offers as an injury update next week.
