LeBron James welcomes Bulls’ Zach LaVine to Klutch Sports Group

Zach LaVine became the latest player to join Klutch Sports Group and received a welcome from LeBron James.

Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine became the latest player to join Klutch Sports Group, led by Rich Paul, which is an agency that oversees some of the NBA’s best talent.

LaVine left his former agencies, Innovate Sports and BDA Sports, to come to Klutch in what should be an important year for him.

The 26-year-old guard has exploded in recent years as an offensive menace who can punish you as a downhill attacker, a pull-up threat from anywhere and as a reliable catch-and-shoot option.

LaVine’s four-year, $78 million deal is coming to a close at the end of the season, which conveys he’s seeking Paul and the company’s help for a big payday next summer.

Also represented by Klutch is Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who has long been one of Paul’s closest friends. James took to Twitter to welcome LaVine to the group:

Other notable players under Klutch include Anthony Davis, Ben Simmons, Draymond Green and Talen Horton-Tucker, to name a few.

Rockets announce jersey patch sponsorship with Credit Karma Money

Starting with the 2021 NBA Summer League, Houston will have a new sponsor for its jerseys after reaching a deal with Credit Karma Money.

The Houston Rockets will have a new uniform patch sponsor this fall after reaching agreement on a partnership with Credit Karma Money that includes having the company logo on uniforms. It’s the first major deal announced since Gretchen Sheirr’s promotion to president of business operations, where she effectively replaces former CEO Tad Brown.

This is the team’s second sponsor since the NBA relaxed its rules to allow advertising on jerseys. The first deal was with ROKiT cell phones to start the 2019-20 season, but the agreement was ended during that season’s extended hiatus due to COVID-19. As such, the Rockets had been playing without a jersey sponsor since the league’s 2020 restart.

The partnership between the Rockets and Credit Karma Money will begin with the 2021 NBA Summer League in August and continue into the 2021-22 season, which starts in October. The team did not disclose the full length of the deal, though they did say that it is for multiple years.

The complete press release from the team is available below.

The Houston Rockets today announced a multi-year partnership with Credit Karma Money, highlighted by a jersey patch sponsorship beginning with the upcoming 2021-22 NBA season.

Credit Karma Money is the latest product from Credit Karma, the platform already helping more than 100 million Americans make financial progress. Credit Karma Money is built for the everyday consumer to organize finances, create better financial habits and get access to money faster. Credit Karma Money offers the best checking account to empower and reward members for making financial progress while they save and spend.

“Credit Karma Money is built to help the everyday American make financial progress and we couldn’t think of a better partner than a vibrant, diverse city like Houston,” said Poulomi Damany, general manager for Credit Karma Money and Tax. “We’re looking forward to being a part of this new era of the Houston Rockets, with a fresh, young crop of talent and the new Credit Karma Money — it’s a perfect match.”

“With the prominence of the jersey patch, it was important for us to partner with a company like Credit Karma Money which has demonstrated a commitment towards enriching the lives of its members,” said Gretchen Sheirr, president of basketball operations for the Rockets. “We are excited to bring this partnership to life and to introduce the Credit Karma Money brand to our fans.“

All variants of Rockets uniforms this upcoming season will feature the Credit Karma Money logo on the left shoulder of the jersey. The logo, which will make its debut on Houston’s uniforms at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, can be viewed here, features a white circular background with green and black lettering.

In addition, the Rockets partnership with Credit Karma Money includes a substantial in-arena and online presence along with support of team community engagement efforts, including recognizing Houston hometown heroes. Credit Karma Money will also be the presenting partner of the Rockets “First Shot” pre-game program.

Similar to how members can randomly win Instant Karma with Credit Karma Money, there will be exclusive opportunities for them to win with the Rockets and Toyota Center during games and beyond. Instant Karma incentivizes good spending behavior by giving members a chance to win back their money when they spend cash they already have in their account. Credit Karma has already rewarded over 400,000 transactions, worth more than $14 million.

The Rockets have retained Klutch Sports Group as their sales agency for the Credit Karma Money partnership. Arent Fox served as Credit Karma’s outside counsel for this partnership.

“We’re excited to bring together the Houston Rockets and Credit Karma Money, which share a passion for innovation, powerful storytelling and giving back to the Houston community,” said Andrew Feinberg, Klutch’s head of property sales and sponsorship.

Jericho Sims signs with Klutch Sports Group, will move forward with 2021 NBA draft

Jericho Sims officially ended his collegiate career as a Longhorn on Wednesday when he signed with an agent ahead of the 2021 NBA draft.

Texas forward Jericho Sims was once viewed as a fringe player at best by NBA scouts and teams, but he had a fantastic draft combine that saw his stock rise immeasurably.

Although he likely will not be a first-round selection, Sims being taken off the board in the second round is now a very likely possibility. This is quite the jump for a player who was considering returning to school. Klutch Sports Group announced via Twitter on Wednesday that Sims was the newest signee, which ends his college career.

Klutch is run by LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul. Sims joins Arkansas guard Moses Moody, Duke forward Jalen Johnson and Texas teammate Kai Jones as signees with the agency from this draft class.

Signing with Klutch could well propel Sims’ career by giving him an opportunity he might have not had otherwise. Paul is known for getting his clients some of the most player-friendly deals in the league.

Terrence Clarke, 19, dies after car accident in Los Angeles

Clarke had just announced earlier in the week that he had signed with Klutch Sports before the NBA Draft.

Terrence Clarke, a 19-year old freshman out of Kentucky, has died after being involved in a car accident on Thursday afternoon. Clarke had recently declared for the draft and had signed with Rich Paul and Klutch Sports for his representation. Clarke had hopes of being draft and was in Los Angeles to train for the upcoming draft later this summer.

Later on Thursday night, Paul released a statement to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski in which he confirmed the tragedy. Clarke’s mother was by his side. Paul also added in his statement that the Clarke family is praying for privacy at this time following an unspeakable tragedy.

Clarke had recently announced his joining Klutch Sports.

According to initial reports about the crash. the incident involving Clarke occurred after Clarke had finished a workout with fellow Klutch signee and Kentucky Wildcat, BJ Boston. Boston was not in the same car. Police say the crash happened at around 2:10 p.m. PT.

Klutch Sports: Former Sierra Canyon star BJ Boston signs with Klutch

Klutch Sports is already preparing for the upcoming draft by bringing on one of Bronny James’ former teammates.

While the Los Angeles Lakers will soon welcome back Anthony Davis to their lineup, Klutch Sports is preparing for yet another NBA Draft. On Wednesday afternoon, we learned more about the incoming Klutch class of 2021, which includes a familiar name for those who have followed the career of Bronny James.

Bronny’s former Sierra Canyon teammate, Brandon Boston Jr. (aka BJ), is one of the newest signees of Klutch Sports. Boston was a transfer to Sierra Canyon for his senior season, in which the Trail Blazers made it to the CIF Open Final before the coronavirus pandemic canceled their championship game. Boston is one of the players featured in the latest documentary series about Sierra Canyon, Top Class, which is available on Amazon Prime Video.

The signing of Boston is likely just the start of former Sierra Canyon stars choosing Klutch Sports as their representation in the near future. Stanford’s Ziaire Williams, who also was part of the 2019-20 Sierra Canyon squad, also recently declared for the draft.

Klutch Sports Draft news: Tyrese Maxey goes No. 21 to Philadelphia 76ers

Maxey averaged 14 points, four rebounds, and over three assists per game in 31 games last season for Kentucky.

Klutch Sports Group had a pretty great night 2020 NBA Draft Wednesday as they had the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft and another player go in the first round 20 picks later on Wednesday night.

Kentucky’s Tyrese Maxey was selected with the No. 21 pick in the 2020 draft. Georgia’s Anthony Edwards was selected No. 1 overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Maxey averaged 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists per game while he shot 42.7% from the field, 29.2% from the 3-point line but a promising 83.3% from the free-throw line.

Maxey is a combo guard who can defend and play both guard positions in the offense but will be going to a Sixers team that can use his skills immediately. Maxey was an odds-on favorite to go in the top-ten of Wednesday’s draft but he fell and the 76ers were the beneficiaries of an unlikely drop down the draft board.

While Maxey was projected to go much higher, he likely ended up in an even better basketball situation than a projection could have put him in.

Anthony Edwards now betting favorite to go No. 1 in NBA draft

According to BetMGM and other sportsbooks in Las Vegas, Anthony Edwards is expected to be the No. 1 pick on Wednesday.

After the longest wait for a draft class in the history of the league, the players in the 2020 Draft will finally be given their new homes and they’ll have to get to those homes rather quickly as training camp is set to start across the league on Dec. 1. And as of draft day morning, Anthony Edwards, who is represented by Klutch Sports, is the new odds-on favorite to go No. 1 in Wednesday’s draft.

According to our friends at BetMGM, Edwards is now a -150 favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves hold the No. 1 pick but this draft has been rife with speculation everybody in the top-three would be willing to trade down. LaMelo Ball is the next closest favorite, at +130, according to BetMGM.

For the last few weeks, Edwards, Ball, and James Wiseman have been considered to be a consensus top three. But with a team in Golden State looking to contend next season, as well as Minnesota and Charlotte trying to compete for the playoffs, this draft has the potential to go off script from the very beginning.
