5 Colts who could be on the trading block

These 5 Colts could be on the trading block this week.

The Indianapolis Colts are turning around on a short week to host the New York Jets on Thursday night but they may be working the phones a bit as well with the NFL trade deadline arriving on Tuesday.

Even though the Colts aren’t typically ones to make a move at the deadline, it’s still wise to see which players may be available on the block. At 3-5 and with the chances of the playoffs dwindling, general manager Chris Ballard will have to decide which path he wants to take.

So before the deadline hits, here are five Colts who could be on the trading block:

Stock up, stock down from Colts’ 34-31 loss to Titans

Taking stock from the Colts’ loss to the Titans in Week 8.

The Indianapolis Colts (3-5) couldn’t get the job done at home on Sunday as they dropped a crucial divisional rematch, 34-31, against the Tennessee Titans (6-2) in overtime.

The Week 8 contest was close throughout even after the Colts got out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter. By the time halftime rolled around, it was a three-point game. The Colts nearly gave the game away at the end of the fourth quarter and needed some magic to put together a game-tying drive at the end of regulation.

However, the reckless decision-making from Carson Wentz doomed the Colts in overtime, and it simply added another reason as to why this team has failed to finish against winning teams.

Here’s a look at the stock report from the overtime loss in Week 8:

Colts rule out 4 players vs. 49ers in Week 7

The Colts ruled out four players ahead of the Week 7 matchup with the 49ers.

The Indianapolis Colts have ruled out four players ahead of the Week 7 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

The players that have been ruled out include right tackle Braden Smith (foot), defensive end Kemoko Turay (groin), cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (ankle) and running back Jordan Wilkins (non-football illness).

Head coach Frank Reich told the media following practice that wide receiver T.Y. Hilton (quad) is listed as questionable but unlikely to play after failing to log any type of practice this week. He told reporters Thursday that he’s “50-50” to play this week even though it appears he’s more doubtful than questionable.

While Smith was ruled out, there were some positive signs that he’s heading in the right direction. The starting right tackle logged his first practice on Friday since injuring his foot in Week 1. He’s not ready to return yet, but this is at least a positive development.

The Colts will release their final injury report with designations later on Friday, which should give a better idea of the entire injury situation entering the weekend.

Colts rule out 5 players vs. Texans in Week 6

The Colts ruled out 5 players for the Week 6 matchup with the Houston Texans.

The Indianapolis Colts (1-4) ruled out five players on Friday ahead of the Week 6 matchup with the Houston Texans (1-4) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The five players ruled out include right tackle Braden Smith (foot), defensive end Kemoko Turay (groin), safety Andrew Sendejo (concussion), kicker Rodrigo Blankenship (hip) and running back Jordan Wilkins (non-football illness).

None of these players were able to log a practice in any capacity this week so it isn’t all that surprising that they have been ruled out.

The biggest name here is Smith, who continues to progress slowly from a foot injury he suffered in Week 1. Smith has yet to practice since initially suffering other injury.

The final injury report will be released later on Friday with the remaining designations.

Colts’ PFF grades: Best and worst from Week 4 win over Dolphins

The best and worst PFF grades from the Colts’ Week 4 win.

Grabbing their first win of the season, the Indianapolis Colts (1-3) had a number of encouraging developments against the struggling Miami Dolphins (1-3) in the Week 4 victory at Hard Rock Stadium.

Before we move on from this matchup, we’ll be taking a look at the game grades from Pro Football Focus. We gave our grades position-by-position from the matchup, but now it’s time to take a look at how they graded the game.

To qualify for the grades, we are going to use an arbitrary snaps cutoff of 20% on either side of the ball.

Here are the best and worst PFF grades for the Colts from the Week 4 win:

Colts called players-only meeting before Week 4 win

The Colts called a players-only meeting before the Week 4 win over the Dolphins.

Following three losses to open the 2021 season, the Indianapolis Colts took a long look in the mirror and knew some issues had to be addressed behind closed doors.

Most of the time, these meetings will be called by one of the bigger names on the roster. After seeing the failings of the edge rush during the first three weeks, Kemoko Turay took it upon himself to approach DeForest Buckner—one of the most respected players in the locker room—to call a players-only meeting.

“Yeah, I talked to Buck about it, him being the leader. He called the meeting and talked to all of us. As you can see today, we all did our job,” Turay told reporters after Sunday’s win. “All the players. We’ve got to get together, we’ve all got to work together. The same meeting we had two years ago.”

Something clicked for the Colts pass rush against the Dolphins. It could have been the meeting that was called. It could have been Turay getting more comfortable with a higher snap count. It could have been the fact they were facing arguably the worst offensive line in the league. Likely, it was a combination of those factors.

Turay himself had a day, leading the defense with two sacks, two quarterback hits and two tackles for loss. Even though it was Buckner who called the meeting, it was Turay’s idea and he followed through on his promise to step up.

“It’s not my place, but the thing is it bothered me. I love this game,” Turay said. “The coaches emphasized that we need an end to do their job, we need an end back there, and watching Buck the first two weeks in the season and being out there just pressuring the quarterback, then it just, as an end, it’s hard for us not doing our part to help him out. We couldn’t just leave him hanging and stuff like that. So it bothered me last week, and we needed that talk.”

The Colts have been needing the pass rush to step up all season. It’s been that way for years now. Buckner can only do so much without getting help from the edge.

Now that they got their first win out of the way a month into the season, the Colts may need to lean on Turay more to make impact plays from the edge.

Stock up, Stock down in Colts’ 27-17 win over Dolphins

Stock report from the Colts’ 27-17 win over the Dolphins.

For the first time during the 2021 season, the Indianapolis Colts (1-3) came out on the winning end of a game, defeating the Miami Dolphins (1-3) on Sunday, 27-17, at Hard Rock Stadium.

Facing a familiar face in Jacoby Brissett, the Colts had an advantage knowing there was a good chance the defense would do its job after three concerning weeks. They were able to bottle up the Dolphins offense with relative ease.

Meanwhile, the Colts offense finally looked like a solid unit after a slow start against a Dolphins defense that is still trying to figure itself out.

As is the case every week, the stock report is fluid. Sometimes a player’s stock is the culmination of a trend while it could also be a new narrative we’re keeping an eye on.

Regardless, here’s the stock report from the Colts’ 27-17 win on Sunday:

The Indianapolis Colts (1-3) got a much-needed first win of the year on the road over the Miami Dolphins (1-3) in a pretty impressive fashion for most of the game. It was a nice rebound for a struggling team fighting to save its season.

The Colts had more than a few solid performances on the day and here we’ll highlight just a few and low-light some others in our studs and duds of this Week 4 victory.

6 Colts to watch vs. Dolphins in Week 4

Keep an eye on these Colts in the Week 4 matchup with the Dolphins.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-3) are one of the five winless teams across the league and will be looking to end that streak when they visit the Miami Dolphins (1-2) at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

The Week 4 matchup is a big one for both teams. The Colts are looking to avoid an 0-4 start for the first time since 2011 and only the second time since Peyton Manning’s rookie season in 1998. The Dolphins are coming off of a tough overtime loss against the Las Vegas Raiders.

As the Colts play with their backs against the wall, here are six players to watch in the Week 4 matchup:

Colts vs. Seahawks: Inactive players for Week 1

Inactive players for the Colts and Seahawks in Week 1.

The Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks have released their lists of inactive players for the Week 1 matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.

The Colts had already ruled out three players entering the weekend, two of which would be starters at their respective positions if healthy. The Seahawks had no injury designations on the final report entering the weekend so most of their inactive players can be assumed as healthy scratches.

Here are the inactive players for the Colts in Week 1:

Name Position Injury
Xavier Rhodes CB Calf
Eric Fisher OT Achilles
Kemoko Turay DE Groin
Danny Pinter G Foot
Isaac Rochell DE
Chris Wilcox CB
Will Fries G

Filling in for Rhodes will be third-year cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, who needs to show he can play with more consistency. He gets a tough matchup with the duo of D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Fisher could be returning from Achilles rehab as soon as Week 2, but that’s still up in the air at this point. He will be watching Julién Davenport settle in at left tackle against a front that will feature plenty of exotic blitzes.

Turay figured to work in the pass-rush rotation as a sub-package rusher on third downs. This is likely to lead to more snaps for Ben Banogu.

Here’s a look at the inactive players for the Seahawks in Week 1 (to be updated):
